Byford Dolphin edit

I would just like to thank you for your expansive editing and fixing the article, keep up the good work. I'll be adding more material to the article later. Cheers —Mark.T

The two of you have done a great job since I left it yesterday! I just scrolled through the history, its amazing to see the page grow to so much in one day. Nice work! —EatMyShortz 14:44, 11 May 2005 (UTC) (See also: my talk - Byford Dolphin)Reply
Hi, had to edit some of your description for content, added a postmortem section. Thanks for adding the sketch of the chambersystem with the divers position just before the accident, were did you find it on the internet? Was going to scan one from a printed report on the accident that I have.
Would the names of the people involved on the operation, be allowed to be publish here at wikipedia?
The byford dolphin diving accident is mentioned no where on the internet in detail, this is the first of it's kind, as I know of anyway.Mark.T
I created the sketch myself using Adobe Photoshop; I have replied in more detail on your user page. -- FP <talk><edits> 08:36, May 14, 2005 (UTC)

Psychic surgery edit

Psychic surgery is indeed a confidence game, to describe it otherwise is to deny a fact. -- 17.203.20.170

I agree psychic surgery is a big fraud. However we must write articles in a neutral, encyclopedic style. This is a non-negotiable Wikipedia policy. I suggest you read WP:NPOV without delay. If you continue to revert the article, then you may end up being blocked for disruptive behaviour (and nobody wants that). If you want to dispute the article's content, then I advise you to ask for assistance at the Help desk or Village Pump. -- FP <talk><edits> 04:09, May 12, 2005 (UTC)
See my comments at Talk:Psychic surgery. I have the page on my watchlist now. Dpbsmith (talk) 10:01, 23 May 2005 (UTC)Reply
I got interested in the topic... Dpbsmith (talk) 01:47, 24 May 2005 (UTC)Reply

How to easily reactivate alot of changes that someone deleted? edit

Please advise. Thanks.... -- Michaeljosephcleary

I got your message about deleting old talk content. I was looking to restore it, but couldn't figure it out... -- Michaeljosephcleary 11:07, 14 May 2005 (UTC)Reply

Sandbox award edit

Thanks for the sandbox Atlas award! I appreciate your kindness very much.

I'm not the only sandbox raker around. User:Zscout370, User:Chanting Fox, and User:Georgia guy have also done a great job.

Also, thanks for the edit summary reminder. I'll remember next time. — Stevey7788 (talk) 21:13, 12 May 2005 (UTC)Reply

Sandbot's HTML warning comment edit

Stevey7788 has suggested something different for the little warning on the sandboxes. I would like your input on the matter. Please see User talk:AllyUnion#sandbot_messasge for more information. -- AllyUnion (talk) 02:07, 13 May 2005 (UTC)Reply

re: Duplicate talk page edit

I have responded (v2) to your comments on this topic at my real talk page.

Quite a while ago, you tagged Talk:German Shepherd Dog with {{reqimage}}. There are some pictures in that article now. If you are not satisfied with them, can you specify on said talk page what you are looking for? Thanks. Rl 12:21, 2 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Thanks, I have removed the tag. -- FP <talk><edits> 12:29, Jun 6, 2005 (UTC)

Hi FP, I've been looking for ages for someone who knew how to slow that image down! Thank you! Would you consider slowing it down even further? Ideally, I'd like it to be very slow (a) so that people can read it then look at the picture to see what they're reading about, and (b) so that people reading the text above and below it don't feel sick. ;-) How did you do it, by the way (if you have time to explain, and if not, don't worry). SlimVirgin (talk) 08:04, Jun 23, 2005 (UTC)

It's my privilege to award FirstPrinciples the Random Acts of Kindness barnstar for his kindness, hard work, and chivalry in my hour of technical need. Thank you! SlimVirgin (talk) 10:23, Jun 25, 2005 (UTC)
Sure, what sort of timing would you suggest? It's currently 7 seconds between frames. Perhaps 10 or 15 seconds would be better?
The program I used to modify the animated GIF was Adobe ImageReady. It was a fairly frustrating process but I got there eventually! If you google for "Animated GIF editor" you'll probably come across free software that can do the same thing. -- FP <talk><edits> 09:37, Jun 23, 2005 (UTC)
I don't want to put you through more frustration, especially as you've just returned from your wikibreak. This could send you straight into another one. ;-) The current image doesn't seem like seven seconds between frames, though that could just be my Mac or browser. Fifteen seconds sounds good, or I could try to change it myself to save you the trouble. SlimVirgin (talk) 09:42, Jun 23, 2005 (UTC)
Have you flushed your browser cache? I'm not sure how you do it on a Mac but it might help if the timings are too fast. -- FP <talk><edits> 10:07, Jun 23, 2005 (UTC)
Doug, thank you for doing that! It must have taken you ages, what with contacting the source too. I really appreciate it. I'm sorry for the delay in responding, but I couldn't see any difference in the image at first, even after emptying my browser cache. However, I've just tried it with several different browsers and it works with all of them, except the one I normally use (Netscape), which I often have problems with. It's perfect the way you've done it — exactly what I was hoping for, and you went above and beyond sorting out the copyright situation too. I'm therefore very pleased to award you a barnstar! ;-) Cheers, SlimVirgin (talk) 10:23, Jun 25, 2005 (UTC)

PA 103 Part Deux edit

Never mind, it only gets annoying when you've reverted peoples well meaning edits to a quote a million times - like on Linux, where people have corrected grammar, spelling and even changed wording of a direct text for text copy of a USENET posting :) --Kiand 02:52, 25 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Oh, and don't worry about the spellcheck. It was just one person who was complaining about that among other things. I don't think it'll be an issue, and if it is, we'll just change it. No worries. SlimVirgin (talk) 10:24, Jun 25, 2005 (UTC)

Mount Erebus disaster edit

I reverted his edit, but the history got lost. So I moved it back, deleted the old version, replaced it with the new, and now I have to find a way to restore the page history. There's a way to do it, but it's laborious, and it's too late to start fiddling with it, so I'll look at it tomorrow. I may in fact have made things worse by starting to fiddle. The talk page also needs to be moved but has to be done manually. I'm actually wondering if I should just move the article back temporarily. What a nuisance! You're welcome about the barnstar, and thanks again for your help. ;-) SlimVirgin (talk) 09:23, July 13, 2005 (UTC)

It suddenly worked, or I think it did. The article and talk page both seem to be at Mount Erebus disaster, and the page histories appear to be restored. Let me know if that's okay. SlimVirgin (talk) 09:29, July 13, 2005 (UTC)
LOL!! Okay, I'll move it back. I think that's a good name. If you're all agreed on the page, it should be fine to do it, so long as you can find an admin who won't screw it up for you. ;-) SlimVirgin (talk) 10:32, July 13, 2005 (UTC)
Okay, we have lift off. SlimVirgin (talk) 10:39, July 13, 2005 (UTC)
Thanks a lot for your help. Sorry about all the confusion there! :) -- FP <talk><edits> 21:17, August 17, 2005 (UTC)

Incubus edit

You lost the two minor edits you did here - the anon contributors before you vandalised the article and I had to revert. Djbrianuk 11:03, 4 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for pointing the copyright thing out, I've uploaded a new image with the relevant info. yeah, i do regret the biography thing - this is the first time i've done any editing so i was just learning and shoulda keept it in the sandbox. Cheers for the help bro! -- Gorgo d 15:47, August 5, 2005

No worries mate. The rabbit thing was actually quite funny but just not appropriate for Wikipedia. Best wishes for your future editing! -- FP <talk><edits> 04:14, August 5, 2005 (UTC)

Chernobyl edit

Hi First Principles, thank you for the e-mail. I didn't mean to sound harsh, sorry. How are things in NZ? I sit in Phoenix, Arizona and can hardly breathe, as the heat and humidity of the monsoon season is quite oppressive. We are downwinders here from the Nevada Test Site with over 200 above-ground nuclear explosions and about 1,000 underground of which several errupted above the surface. However, in our case we do not have to guess who had done it. Best Wishes, David Cruise

Dear First edit

I saw your note to Cruise about Nuclear and New Zealand - it occurs to me that New Zealand is on of those countries with the unique ability to generate more energy then they could ever use from waves. Energetech (AU) has recently installed a demonstration plant off Sydney. A Nuclear-free New Zealand might project a cleaner image than nukes, and in my opinion would recomend New Zealand to the people who would be most interested in visiting. Backdraft Images edit

For the Backdraft article, I found some great images here: 1 but I don't know if its free or not. You can email the webmaster if you like.--Ewok Slayer 19:43, 25 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

Featured article for December 25th edit

I noticed you have listed yourself in Category:Atheist Wikipedians. That said, you will probably be interested in my suggested featured article for December 25th: Omnipotence paradox. The other suggestion being supported by others for that date is Christmas, although Raul654 has historically been against featuring articles on the same day as their anniversary/holiday. — BRIAN0918 • 2005-11-28 08:17

Oh dear edit

Frankly your edit was the best of all three but I simply can't justify its mention right now. I toyed all day with the idea of inserting that breaking tidbit (which was publically released less than 24 hours ago) somewhere into the article but it just seemed too soon and not really notable--yet. I mean it's notable today because it's current. But it might not be in a month.
People with articles are having operations and getting papercuts all the time. Some Many irrelevant details should just stay personal until there's a need for them to be inserted into the appropriate article.
Oh...and welcome back! :) -- Krash (Talk) 02:06, 8 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Anita McNaught - categorisation? edit

Just a question - I see you added the Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual People (or whatever it is) category to the Anita McNaught article. Ok, she's definitely gay-friendly, and there have always been rumours, but where is the citation that she has said that that's she's queer?

I'm all for sticking people in the right categories, but I also like to see where the assertion is coming from. Thanks! Trxi 06:39, 21 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi Trxi... this was really just a stupid mistake on my part. Sorry. -- FirstPrinciples 13:24, 6 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Just to let you know that a meetup is planned in Auckland for the 25th of June (see Wikipedia:Meetup/Auckland for more details), and that you are cordially invited. GeorgeStepanek\talk 00:21, 30 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks... but I will be at the other end of the country (Southland) so I can't make it. Have fun though. -- FirstPrinciples 13:26, 6 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
