Hello. I saw you query on Jimbo's talk page. There are three distinct possibilities:
- Use the "move" button to change the title of the current John Boston article to John Boston (Australian settler) or something like that; then make the page titled John Boston into a disambiguation page with links to John Boston (Australian settler) and John Boston (columnist) (or John Boston (journalist) or whichever term is most appropriate).
- Create the new page titled John Boston (columnist) or John Boston (journalist) or whatever the appropriate term is, and then install a disambiguation link at the top of the existing John Boston article that says:
- This article is about the Australian settler. For the columnist, see John Boston (columnist).
- Use the "move" button to change the title of the current John Boston article to John Boston (Australian settler) or something like that; then make the page titled John Boston into an article on the columnist and put a disambiguation link at the top of the John Boston article that says:
- This article is about the columnist. For the Australian settler, see John Boston (Australian settler).
The first of the three alternatives should be used unless one of the two "John Boston"s should be regarded as the principal one (e.g. the page about Julius Caesar is about the ancient Roman statesman and if there were also a Julius Caesar who is noted for inventing the electric doorknob, his article would be Julius Caesar (electric doorknob inventor) or the like).
I'd guess in this case the first alternative is the right one. So if you look at Wikipedia:Disambiguation, you'll see how disambiguation pages should be formatted. Looking at some examples might suffice for that. E.g. Kiva (disambiguation). Michael Hardy (talk) 01:45, 16 September 2008 (UTC)
