Hello, I'm Jellyman. I wanted to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions to Doug Smith (footballer, born 1937) have been undone because they did not appear constructive. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you think a mistake was made, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. Doug smith

edit

The details you corrected are in fact wrong which is why I updated them as I noticed a fans group commenting on his birthday yesterday when in fact it is in March Fifefootballfan (talk) 21:07, 19 November 2017 (UTC) Fifefootballfan (talk) 21:07, 19 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

You need to provide a reliable source to back up any changes you wish to make, it's not sufficient to just say something is "wrong", as other people have no way of knowing where you get your information and how reliable it is. If you read WP:V and WP:CITE, this will help explain how Wikipedia works. If you keep making changes without proof of where you get your facts, you will find people will keep reverting you, regardless of whether your changes are correct or not, which will be a waste of everyone's time. Can you tell me where your information on Doug Smith comes from? Jellyman (talk) 23:18, 19 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
I happened to stumble over this exchange. I know nothing about this from my own knowledge, but I see that the middle name Bryan, along with other details, was apparently added without support in this edit. Perhaps these sources might provide useful info and support for Baigrie as a middle name: [1] [2] [3]; more at [4]; I don't know about the other details. Hmmm..., there also appear to be numerous sources supporting "Bryan" as a middle name. See [5]. Wtmitchell (talk) (earlier Boracay Bill) 12:54, 20 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
A lot of these are from obituaries, whereas the inclusion of Bryan on Wikipedia predates Mr Smith's death... so we could have an instance of false information being lifted from Wikipedia and reused by the media – circular reporting. Jellyman (talk) 13:57, 20 November 2017 (UTC

It is definitely false info lifted by the media. I only joined so I could sort it out once and for all, but not really up to speed with it all to be honest. So your help is appreciated Fifefootballfan (talk) 14:07, 20 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
