November 2023 edit

Your account has been indefinitely blocked from editing because your account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia. Also, your username gives the impression that the account represents a business, organisation, group, or web site, which is against the username policy.

If you intend to make useful contributions instead of promoting your business or organization, you may request unblock and a username change. In your reasons, you must:

  • Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the paid-contribution disclosure requirement; and
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked; and
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked; and
  • Provide a new username.

To do this, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked.

Please note that the new username you choose cannot already be taken and in use by another account. You can go here to search and see if the username you'd like to choose is available. If the search returns that no global account with that username exists, that means it is available to be taken.

Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. UtherSRG (talk) 19:13, 13 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hello, Fahlo. Thank you for helping to build Wikipedia-- the world's largest free content encyclopedia. A page you created  Draft:Fahlo has been speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This was done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seemed to be unambiguous advertising which only promoted a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to have been fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic.

This article needs to be rewritten from scratch from reliable, third party sources unconnected to the subject. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia. It is not an outlet for promotion, advocacy, or advertising.

Information on content and common pitfalls to avoid can be located here and here, however be aware that this is not an exhaustive list. Pages can sometimes avoid these pitfalls and still be seen as an ad copy or unambiguously promotional, particularly if the editor appears to be a paid editor or has some other conflict of interest. Please review these policies, including the FAQ page on organizations to determine if this applies to you.

Common mistakes or beliefs about promotional editing center on the assumption that promotional editing only applies to promotion for commercial gain. Some tags or G11 nominations are met with confusion by creators, particularly if they spend much time reading or creating corporate documents, mission/vision statements, or similar copy for their organization. The frequent exposure to promotional tone may make it difficult to notice non-neutral phrases or styles, as the editor has grown accustomed to seeing it as everyday writing or speech. This can be difficult, but not impossible, to unlearn.

Another common assumption is that the prohibition against promotional editing applies only to businesses or organizations. Anything can be promoted, including a person, a non-commercial organization, a point of view, etc. and CV/resumé's are by their nature promotional.

Wikipedia is an encyclopedia-- subjects must meet notability guidelines with reliable sources that are unconnected with the subject and providing verifiable information. That generally means someone unconnected with the subject needs to have written a great deal about the subject. Please see this page on citing sources and Wikipedia:Common sourcing mistakes (notability). This page has templates you can use in citing your sources. Place the template {{Reflist}} at the bottom of the page, and references cited in the text will appear there. New article creation can be difficult, but the Article Wizard can help you. The new user tutorial can help you avoid future problems. You can ask for help at Wikipedia:WikiProject Articles for creation/Help desk and on IRC chat Wikipedia:The Wikipedia Adventure is a useful tutorial.

New article creation can be difficult and frustrating. Sometimes it is better to first gain experience by fixing and helping maintain existing articles. Wikipedia:Community portal/Opentask contains links to things that badly need doing, if you are so inclined. UtherSRG (talk) 19:21, 13 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Requested username:

Request reason:

I am not receiving any compensation for posting about Fahlo. I understand the reason for the block and understand that my previous username Fahlo seemed to indicate this was a paid advertisement. However, that is not the case. My intention with this contribution is to report on this organization and to highlight their partnerships and impact in the animal conservation field. They partner with known animal foundations - including those with existing Wikipedia pages - and have the mission to save the animals. I suggest changing my username to "AnimalLover21" as this better represents my interests and expectations for this account. I believe that writing the article from scratch and removing any mention of Fahlo products and links to their website will remove the promotional aspects and ensure this is an educational post about an organization making a deep impact in the realm of animal conservation. Please advise.

I see that you declared a COI; what is the general nature of it? 331dot (talk) 21:27, 15 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

My initial article was blocked/deleted, then my account was blocked. I am not receiving any compensation for posting about Fahlo. You didn't answer my question, what is the general nature of your COI that you declared? 331dot (talk) 14:09, 20 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
Note that Wikipedia is not for merely providing information or educating, nor is it a place to merely tell about something, even if it does good work. Wikipedia articles summarize what independent reliable sources with significant coverage have chosen on their own to say about an organization, showing how it meets the special Wikipedia definition of a notable organization. 331dot (talk) 14:12, 20 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
I believe I misfiled the conflict of interest declaration. My main point of contention is that I am un unrelated source trying to provide information about a notable organization. Fahlo's impact can be understood from these secondary, reliable sources from the nonprofit organizations they've impacted with donations:
- Saving the Blue (2022): In 2021 we expanded our silky shark project into Florida waters, this project was solely possible due to the financial contributions from Fahlo. In addition, several hammerhead tags we placed were used in stock assessments for both scalloped and great hammerheads in the Gulf of Mexico and the western north Atlantic. During 2022 Fahlo once again supported both our silky and hammerhead shark projects, funding important, crucial and impactful shark research.
- Saving the Blue (2023): “Thanks to Fahlo, we were able to double the number of tagged sharks for our study. This has been critical to our work as we now have a large enough dataset to assess the potential of time-area closures as tools to improve the management of hammerheads in the US Atlantic and the Gulf of Mexico.”
- Sea Turtle Conservancy: "Fahlo, previously branded as Wildlife Collections, is the exclusive turtle tracking jewelry partner of the Sea Turtle Conservancy and donates 10% of net profits from every turtle bracelet sold to STC. Thanks to our partnership, Wildlife Collections has donated almost $300,000 towards our sea turtle conservation programs!"
- Polar Bears International: "By partnering with innovative companies like Fahlo, we can work together to protect polar bears and their sea ice home."
- Save the Elephants: "The Expedition Bracelet includes your elephant’s name, photo, history, and the ability to see where they travel! Fahlo donates 10% of profits from every Expedition Bracelet to STE."
- NBC2: "The one exception is “Wildlife Collections,” which has an exclusive partnership with STC involving tracked turtles."
Regarding the COI, let me know if there are specific items you're looking for that I can clarify - I'm not sure what exactly you need form me to clear that up. Fahlo (talk) 14:56, 22 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
I see that you declared a COI, and you did it correctly. I am asking you what is the general nature of your COI. I'm just looking for an answer, which you may give in reply.
Other organizations that benefit from yours are not independent sources. 331dot (talk) 16:40, 22 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
You say you are unrelated to this organization, but chose its name as your username and declared a COI. People don't usually declare a COI by accident. Why did you do so, and how did you come to edit about them? 331dot (talk) 15:53, 24 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
