Facts, I have not decided if I support your unilateral, major edit to the campaign section. As Fcreid pointed out above, you should have discussed this on talk prior to the edit as there has been many editors involved over a period of time. Electric Car prototypes

Hi there,

Seems relevant to have that section. Can you just clear up a couple of points for me:

• On the todo list there is a thing about prototypes. I think that the todo is rather redundant cos was done before a major reformat which probably renamed sections etc. But if you could take a quick look and e.g. mark as done or superseded that would be great.
• Why do you put CURRENTDATE and CURRENTTIME templates? Surely it would be better simply to use the actual date you wrote it? Perhaps you meant to subst: ? Otherwise they will change each time it is regurgitated, won't they?

Look, I have no idea what someone's intentions are when something like that is created. If I hadn't deleted it, another admin would likely have done so. I've seen little stubs like that linger for months on end after their creation. The two 80% figures are referenced later in the article under the section Canada#Demographics. I supposed I could have moved the reference up further, but that is not strictly required under WP. Are you questioning the "cold winters", "summers can be quite warm", or "oranges and grapes are grown"? I can certainly add refs for those if necessary (they are very common knowledge). Are you questioning "diverse natural beauty, wildlife, abundant resources, etc."? I can supply refs for those, but they are very common knowledge.

Also, in Wikipedia we generally don't just remove information because it doesn't have a reference. We use {{fact}} which looks like , and then if felt necessary post something to the contributor's page.

Hi, I agree that the article was getting too long. I like how the excessive details on suspensions are no longer shown. However, I do miss the information on active suspensions (players suspended for an upcoming game in the tournament itself). I'll discuss more on the World Cup talk page. English language varieties

"Italy are the defending champions" is correct as the 2010 FIFA World Cup page is not written in US English. If a page is not particular to one variety of English the current variety should be retained. See WP:ENGVAR Thanks Bevo74 (talk) 10:02, 23 June 2010 (UTC)

There is no reason to change to British English on 2010 FIFA World Cup. The policy on Wikipedia is to leave international differences in the state it was after the article is past the stub stage unless there is a compelling national reason to change it. Since the subject is neither English nor American, it appears that it should stay. Please discuss on the article's talk page. The article itself is starting to load too slowly due to the multitude of edits so I would appreciate not entering an nationally-based edit war over this. I've changed it to the English language variety neutral "host team South Africa" as per WP:COMMONALITY. Personally I don't care too much, but other editors are more fussy about this. The problem here was that I combined three facts into one sentence for clarity and brevity, but one of the statements was in American English while the other two were in British English, thus I changed the American English "host" to BE "hosts" for consistency. BTW, the speed of displaying a Wikipedia article in a browser is not related to the number of edits it has had. It is primarily due to the overall number of requests on the WP servers, and to a much lesser extent how long the article is and how much processing the WP servers have to do to display the article (e.g. pictures, tables, etc.) Facts707 (talk) 16:45, 25 June 2010 (UTC)

Complete neologism. No-one refers to these sports or the collective as "net sports". Zero relevant Google hits back this up. Contrast with ball game which is an actual in-use term to describe a class of games.

Dundas Island (British Columbia) change in error

I don't know which guidelines you're invoking, perhaps the US or UK ones; they are not global standards, each country has its own disambiguation guidelines. For Canada, geographic objects such as islands, mountains, lakes etc use parentheses for disambiguation; comma-province is ONLY used for settlements; there is some crossover when an island is also a (major) settlement, but these are very rarely disambiguated (e.g. Saltspring Island, Galiano Island, Texada Island - though each of those also has distinct settlements within/upon it), and in cases where there are, for example, a lake and a town of the same name, separate articles are written with each having its own disambiguation. Hard to think of an island one, though I do know that Gambier Island exists as an island article, but there also is/was a postal locale on that (large) island called Gambier Island, British Columbia, among other places also on that island. Please do not make any similar changes to CAnadian articles, as you obviously didn't know about these guidelines and assumed Canada was bound by some other country's....if you're an admin, please change it back; if you're not an admin, then find one to do it; you can start at WP:CANTALK which is frequented by Canadian admins....Skookum1 (talk) 07:37, 11 September 2010 (UTC)

Creating disambiguation pages

Hello Facts707, I noticed you made one or two disambig pages for species epithets, including "Eucosmia". It seems that when these pages come to people's attention, they usually do get deleted, on the basis that they are partial title matches. Here is a couple of comments from an AfD discussion about "tristis" which was first a disambig page and then an attempt at an article: ..................

• Delete. We had several of these at AfD a few years ago (Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Canus, Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Miserabilis, Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Vulgaris), where the consensus was for deletion. My rationale remains the same as that expressed in my !vote and later comment at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Miserabilis. Deor (talk) 15:06, 25 May 2011 (UTC)
• Delete A specific epithet like this an adjective and is an intrinsic part of a name; it is not comparable with the a name like Robert. The epithet "tristis" is nonsensical to use by itself to refer to a species; it is like referring to New York City as just "New" or Long Island as just "Long". This "article" is still essentially an expanded disambiguation page and "tristis" (or any of the other specific epithets that keep cropping up as new disambig pages) are definitely partial title matches, which is the first thing mentioned in the list of "What not to include" in the Wikipedia Disambiguation guidelines, see WP:DABNOT. I have been unable to find any print sources where the specific epithet "tritis" is used by itself. As an article this would be like a list of towns that have the word "South" as part of their name. It is unencyclopedic. I agree strongly with User: Deor and the examples of previous AfDs he gives are extremely relevant here.Invertzoo (talk) 13:04, 31 May 2011 (UTC)

• What does the word mean? Hi - I'd be happy to be rid of Eucosmia if it is of no use. My only interest in it is its similar spelling to Eucosma, Euosmia, etc. I tried to find a definition for eucosmia but it is not in Wiktionary or any other online dictionaries or other etymology resources as far as I can tell. Is it a Latin or Greek word? The only reference I could find was that it means "decorum" from Pythagoras of Samos (ca. 570–496 B.C.) [2]. I don't really know the ancient Greek language, but I believe "eu" means good and "kosmos" means universe. Scientific names (no matter what their source language) must be put together as if they were Latin words, so maybe this is a Latinized version of "good universe"? Just a guess. Good point - I'll leave the discussion here. Also that sounds like a pretty good guess on the meaning of "eucosmia". "Eukosmia" turns up a few more hits, eg:

... which doesn't really help us here, but maybe I can define the word in Greek Wiktionary some time.

Please restore the article on the Arthritis Society. I had worded the first sentence appropriately and the second sentence was merely a descriptive line from the Society itself about the Society and its many branches. I'd be happy to reword the second line as necessary. I mentioned in the talk page that there was "more to come soon". The Arthritis Society is one of the world's major health organizations and has contributed a large amount of research to the study of arthritis. Facts707 (talk) 10:21, 12 October 2011 (UTC)
