Hello Flair-marketing. If you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest. In keeping with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, edits where there is a conflict of interest, or where such a conflict might reasonably be inferred, are strongly discouraged. If you have a conflict of interest, you should avoid or exercise great caution when:
- editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with;
- participating in deletion discussions about articles related to you, your organization or its competitors; and
- linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).
Please familiarize yourself with relevant policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.
For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you. A13ean (talk) 17:14, 22 November 2011 (UTC)
Frankly, your username is a poor choice. It brands you (fairly or not) as a person not interested in truth or impartiality, but as somebody planning to spam Wikipedia. This is quite possibly not fair to you at all, but "marketing" is just a polite way of saying "advertising" which in turn is a polite way of saying "lying for pay". Your actual contributions are not bad at all; but I'd strongly advise a request for a change of username. --Orange Mike | Talk 15:18, 23 November 2011 (UTC)
- And just to clarify, as someone who has previously done marketing for academic publishers it might be best if you suggested changes to closely related articles rather than making them yourself, as described at WP:NOPAY. This generally gets a much better reception in cases where they may be a real or perceived conflict of interest. Cheers A13ean (talk) 21:43, 23 November 2011 (UTC)
Thank you for the feedback and advice. This was my first contribution and although I have done work with some academic publishers in the past, I have no involvement with this one. I will follow the suggestions you make for any contribution where a conflict of interest may be perceived. Fabienne (talk) 17:55, 24 November 2011 (UTC)
Thank you for the advice, Orangemike. I have requested a change of username. I see your point and did not realize it would work against me...Fabienne (talk) 17:18, 23 November 2011 (UTC)
