HP Nielsen

Hi FLRdorothy. I came across this article while checking on some non-free images and I'm not quite sure Nielsen meets Wikipedia's standard of notability for a stand-alone article. Most of the sources you're citing are from very old newspapers which is making kind of hard to verify whether WP:BIO is met. The few sources which are provided with links only show trivial mentions which are not really the significant coverage needed for a stand-alone article. This appears to be your first attempt at writing an article and you did not submit it for review via Wikipedia:Articles for creation, so I am wondering why you chose to create the article. Is there by chance some connection between you and Nielsen? Do you have access to all of the sources you've cited? If so, perhaps you can clarify them a bit more.

I am not trying to be accusatory, just a bit curious and trying to sort things out. Nielsen seems to have led an interesting life, but that's not necessarily a reason to write a Wikipedia article about him. FWIW, I did ask another more experienced editor Cullen328 about this at User talk:Cullen328#HP Nielsen and am posting here per his suggestion. -- Marchjuly (talk) 07:56, 3 January 2018 (UTC)

Hi there. Listen, it may have been the two cents I threw in, at the discussion Marchjuly mentions, that causes Marchjuly to raise the notability issue here. The fact is I was very skeptical of Nielsen's notability by Wikipedia standards, based on what I saw in the article, and said so, but I also mentioned that seeing the Tribune obituary might change my mind. Well, I've taken a look (I should have done that last night before commenting) and to my surprise I've changed my mind. It's razor close, but I think the obituary just barely, barely, puts him over the notability line. That means the article can stay (assuming other editors take my word for what I've seen) but it will have to be cut somewhat. I'll be happy to help you with that (and you may find it a little confusing -- Wikipedia is partly rules and partly art) so don't panic. Let's let things settle down a while and then you and I can proceed together, though I'm quite busy for a while so it will take some time. In the meantime, something that will really help if you have them is if you would add the page numbers for the news articles to the references. EEng 00:09, 4 January 2018 (UTC)

Hi, I have some experience editing from years ago but this is my first article, so I appreciate the comments. After learning about Nielsen via local historians he seemed like someone who was prominent in the Bay Area during his lifetime, and seems to have left a mark even if nobody's written a book about him yet. I'm planning an article next about the Sunnyside Conservatory and William Augustus Merrals, but haven't delved into the research yet.
