August 2022 edit

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username, "FABLEBot", may not meet Wikipedia's username policy because it contains the suffix "-bot", which is generally reserved for authorized bot accounts. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. As an alternative, you may file for a change of username, or you may simply create a new account and use that for editing.

I am the PI of the research group which is operating that bot account. At the moment, this bot is not yet operational. To start the process of getting the necessary permissions to start operating the bot, as outlined in Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval, I plan to soon post on Wikipedia:Village pump (proposals) describing what the bot will do.
However, I realize now that I should have created the bot account while being logged into my normal user account. Is there any way I can link the two accounts now? HarshaMadhyastha (talk) 20:48, 8 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
Nice to e-meet you   Unfortunately there's no way to link these accounts now, but I've added the {{bot}} template to the user page which includes a link to you. The template also specifies that the bot is currently unapproved, so hopefully other admins won't hassle you over the username! Good luck with the research! — TheresNoTime (talk • she/her) 20:58, 8 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
Thank you! I really appreciate your help. HarshaMadhyastha (talk) 21:11, 8 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
Wikipedia:Bots is a good place to start too. Secretlondon (talk) 10:55, 9 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
Thank you. Yes, we've read that one too. FABLEBot (talk) 13:51, 9 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hi! You should also not make any manual/human edits from this account (e.g. [1]) per WP:BOTREQUIRE #4. Please use the "human account" for this. You can still test the bot per WP:BOTUSERSPACE prior to approval. —  HELLKNOWZ  TALK 20:37, 31 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Sounds good. Thank you for pointing out that requirement. We'll keep that in mind going forward. HarshaMadhyastha (talk) 20:50, 31 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Status update? edit

@HarshaMadhyastha, Anishnya, and Jingyzhu: Did anything ever come of this? * Pppery * it has begun... 21:48, 21 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for following up. At the end of last year, I left my position at the University of Michigan and joined the faculty at the University of Southern California. Since I have been caught up with this transition over the last six months or so, many of my group's projects, including this one, have been stalled. We had been discussing that we should finally get started with the long delayed bot approval process sometime this summer. The fact that someone still cares gives us greater impetus to do so!
