Comments on mediation

have been archived. See the mediation page.

They disappeared, so I am copying my response here, with a little extra that occurred to me just now -- like the wiki, ever evolving:

Hold on, man. I'm not hiding who I used to be. I simply didn't even remember that we'd had a discussion. I still don't actually. I know you're an interested party in this area with a particular set of views, so the name was familiar, but I wasn't aware we'd had words. I don't spend my days digging around in my archives to check out who's who. I took you at face value. I was slagged off in the arbitration because I disagreed with some users on a page. They insisted that a "consensus" was a 2/3rds majority and some used their admin powers to enforce that view. The case was a foregone conclusion because Raul and Snowspinner were two of the editors involved, and another arbitrator had refused to compromise also. If you ever find yourself on the wrong end of those people, EB, you will be described in just the same terms. It doesn't mean anything and it certainly isn't true. I've created compromises on several pages that I'm proud of. Is it wholly my fault if editors were unwilling to compromise because they had won a vote? Is that what we're about here? If you believe so, just have a goddamned vote on anal sex. You're sure to win because your POV is well represented. If anything, that experience gives me perspective on what it feels like to be embattled and not be listened to and an ideal mediator for those who are in that position. I've also disagreed sharply with Sam but I've found him willing to compromise in the past. I don't share his biases in any respect but does that mean I am doomed to have nothing to do with him except eternal conflict? You, OTOH, seem to feel that a prior disagreement means that I can't treat you fairly! Basically, you refuse to mediate unless you are sure you have a mediator who agrees with you to start with. I could hardly offer to be a mediator in a case with Sam if I had a track record of namecalling him and attacking him. If you actually pay attention to the message where I called him a "loveable rogue", you'll see that I was agreeing that he should do his part to resolve his dispute. It was, as many of Sam's problems are, a storm in a teacup. He has a reputation and gets slaughtered for it. Some editors will automatically take the other side against him because of his views. I don't share the views but I have a repugnance for those who think that he shouldn't have a say because they don't share them. Grace Note 04:08, 17 September 2005 (UTC)

My dear Grace, the issue with Snowspinner et. al. aside (and I realize that just because someone says something about another user doesn't mean it's true), I find it difficult to believe that you don't remember me, considering some of your comments to me. But be that as it may, thanks for your offer to mediate, but no thanks. And just to be clear: I don't want a mediator who's biased either way.

On the subject of Sam, I don't automatically oppose Sam because I disagree with him, and I don't think he shouldn't have a say. But I also don't think he should pull the stunts he pulls. He does have a reputation, and it's deserved. And you're right: these issues he becomes embroiled in are usually of the storm-in-a-teacup variety, and they keep happening, and happening, and happening... Comments from DannyWilde

One of the big problems I have in editing the Japanese language pages is User:Exploding Boy. He does not seem to be able to tolerate anyone disagreeing with him, or changing what he wrote. He is arrogant, see how he responded to the people who reviewed the article for its featured article status. He reverts stuff without even carefully looking at it, quite often destructively. He seems to think he has God's opinion on how to write.... (Originally posted by DannyWilde on the Talk:Stroke order page, and moved here by Exploding Boy 06:34, 16 September 2005 (UTC)).

Danny, we've had several minor clashes, I agree. However, I have attempted to make clear on several occasions my willingness to work with you and my reluctance to engage in edit warfare or other destructive behaviour (see my comments on your talk page and two or three other talk pages).
As I have said, I sometimes find it difficult to work with you, in part because of the attitude you take towards me (and others, it must be said), and in part because of the comments you make in your edit summaries and on talk pages. Why you felt the need to make the comments you did on the stroke order page, I'm not sure... but at any rate. I reiterate my willingness to work with you, and would appreciate some acknowledgement of this and an agreement to make a similar attempt, which means, partly, assuming good faith. And as you've said on your own talk page, please make comments about me on my talk page and about articles on the article's talk page. Thanks.
Exploding Boy 06:34, 16 September 2005 (UTC)

I *vandalized* your userpage for a while

Hope that's alright. Regards, El_C 06:48, 16 September 2005 (UTC)

Not at all. And I hope you'll keep an eye on the developments. Exploding Boy 06:52, 16 September 2005 (UTC)
Will do. I blocked the anon for three hours, so t minus one hour or so. ;) El_C 06:56, 16 September 2005 (UTC)

WritersCramp

The logic that I have heard applied to every talk page revision I've been a party to is this:

  • Your talk page is not your own.
  • You have the right to manage it as you see fit.
  • However, you must not remove other people's comments, except for archival.

External to that is the rule against personal attacks. Of course, WC did violate that rule, but that's part of the record of his talk page, and he should be held accountable. In fact, it's my strong feeling that (if he has not already), he should be banned again for that alone.

The problem that I have is removing the offensive comment, which muddies future resarch into his behavior (sure, it's in the history, but now it becomes more obscure), and implies on the talk page that he did not respond (which he did).

You see the angle I'm coming at this from? I'm not defending him... quite the opposite, actually. By leaving the comment (as I left his intro when I stitched together all of the comments that he had removed), you further damn him by showing his actions in-context. -Harmil 15:23, 16 September 2005 (UTC)

Yes, I do. Thanks. At the moment he seems fairly harmless. He's not (yet) vandalised any more article pages and besides filling my talk page with homophobic nonsense and engaging in a few personal attacks on his own page, he's not really done anything since being blocked the first time. I have a feeling he won't last long, though. Exploding Boy 15:28, 16 September 2005 (UTC)

You forgot to mention that Homo-Boy was screwing (bad choice of words) around with my homepage not my User Talk page, I notice he deleted my comments on HIS User Talk page, so I am doing the same, I don't want fruit flies hanging around my Wiki !! WritersCramp 21:05, 16 September 2005 (UTC)

Who are you addressing your remarks to? You don't have a "homepage," you have a user page, which I edited along with your user talk page when I blocked you to ensure that you would see the message one way or the other. It's standard practice. You're free to remove the message from your user page.
You are also free to edit your own talk page, though most users create an archive to which they remove old discussions. You can of course remove personal attacks from your user talk page as well, as I did when you pasted a bunch of pseudo-scientific homophobia on mine; convention has it, however, that you should respond to people who leave you legitimate messages on your talk page before deleting their comments.
On the other hand, you don't have a choice of who uses Wikipedia and who uses your talk page to communicate with you. You cannot legitimately say "no gays here." Exploding Boy 21:12, 16 September 2005 (UTC)
So, rude-boy isn't even slowing down, and now he's uploading images of questionable copyright ... it's funny that the images he's uploading are from germany in WWII with questionable sources. Makes me wonder about his association (if any) with User:Tykell. -Harmil 15:47, 19 September 2005 (UTC)

Thanks

I just wanted to drop you a note to thank you for your support on my RfA. I'll try my best to live up to the trust you've shown in me. Thanks, Nandesuka 00:48, 17 September 2005 (UTC)

E-mail request

I apologize for my late reply, but non-wiki issues encompass more of my time than I care for them to. I am not currently in a postition, as you can see from the drop off in my contributions, to give your request the attention it would both need and deserve. I beleive that such a lack of attention on my part—in this instance—would do more harm than good to your situation. Take care. -JCarriker 19:59, 18 September 2005 (UTC)

Thanks. As you can tell from Wikipedia talk:Requests for mediation/Sam Spade and Exploding Boy we seem to be making at least some progress unaided at the moment, so hopefully we won't need a mediator at all. Exploding Boy 20:05, 18 September 2005 (UTC)

Writers Cramp aka LaLa

Hey, is there somewhere to record that two users are probably the same person? Given the evidence--irritating user page, bad attitude, copyvios, which pages are being edited, and the fact that WC appears when LaLa is blocked and LaLa reappears when WC is blocked--I think that the theory ought to be investigated. Not that I have a clue whether anything can be done about it-- Elf | Talk 00:28, 22 September 2005 (UTC)

I know it can be done, but not by me. I'd place a notice on the Administrators' notice board. Someone will know. Exploding Boy 01:49, 22 September 2005 (UTC)

Thanks. Done. Elf | Talk 02:24, 22 September 2005 (UTC)

Ignore if you prefer

but as a good faith gesture, I decided to alert you to a discussion @ Talk:Faggot#anti-gay_slang_etymology_and_witch_burnings. I noticed a dispute between an editor and an anon, and found a few cites which seemed to disagree w what is written @ Faggot_(slang)#Bundle_of_sticks. I thought you might be interested helping to express the various opinions on the etymology of the term.

I also made a proposal for concluding our mediation @ Wikipedia talk:Requests for mediation/Sam Spade and Exploding Boy. It might be a good idea if we either reached compromise and conclusion regarding our dispute @ Talk:Anal sex, or agreed to leave either those particulars, or even that page entirely, up to other editors for some period of time. Cheers, Sam Spade 17:46, 22 September 2005 (UTC)

Flogging in Iran

Since you took an interest in Iran's flogging and killing of two young men, you might be interested in the most recent flogging. I've added a reference to it at the Iran article, but such unpleasant reminders that the Iranian Revolution replaced systematic brutal torture with systematic brutal torture are often removed. - Outerlimits 00:26, 23 September 2005 (UTC)

Mediation Filed

Hello, I saw your mediation filed at RFM. I have been cleaning it out and I'm wondering if mediation is still desired. I can assign a mediator or allow Grace Note to, whichever is preferred. Redwolf24 (talk) 01:02, 27 September 2005 (UTC)

HTML Entities

Stumbled across your user page and saw a lot of &nbsp's in your list of articles (using Safari). Just in case you weren't aware, HTML entities like   must have a semicolon (;) at the end, although some browsers (possibly the one you happen to use) can sometimes guess the intended meaning. Anyway I just popped the page's source into my text editor and used a regular expression to find any of them with no semicolon and add it. Shadypalm88 00:57, 16 October 2005 (UTC)

Have been meaning to get around to that.... Thanks a lot. Exploding Boy 01:36, 16 October 2005 (UTC)

I am contacting you because you expressed concerns about the neutrality of the List of sex positions. Your input on what exactly should be done with this page would be greatly valued on the page's talk page. Thanks for your time! EWS23 | (Leave me a message!) 05:10, 8 November 2005 (UTC)

Images about

Hi Exploding Boy !

I am a french user. We are currently evaluating the possibility to list fr:Chanoyu in the french Featured articles. I think that some pictures of yours (Image:Tea ceremony implements.jpg, Image:Chawan.jpg and Image:Natsume.jpg) maybe should be ameliorated (contrast/luminosity). On the french wikipedia we have people working on images quality (see fr:Wikipédia:Images à améliorer). I felt like I had to ask your opinion :)

So, what do you think ? GôTô 13:44, 8 November 2005 (UTC)

Hello, Exploding Boy. I noticed that a few months ago, you visited the Gay article and made some comments on the talk page. We've been working on it, trying to improve it. Would you mind giving it a look and giving your opinion? thanks. --RobbyPrather 03:47, 11 November 2005 (UTC)

List of Sex Positions again

You'll be happy to learn that, partially due to your bold edit of adding a {{POV}} tag to the List of sex positions page, a major edit has been made to address the concerns issued by you and many others. Feel free to view the page and see if it addresses your concerns, or if more work is still needed. Thanks for everything! EWS23 | (Leave me a message!) 05:42, 1 December 2005 (UTC)

WritersCramp

Hello, I have returned from a long vacation and I have found I have been included in an RfC of WritersCramp, and am called a sockpuppet. I would like to say now that I am not, and I will do whatever it takes to clear my name. I don't know how to prove it, but I am not him. All I did was agree with his beliefs, I never saw him before on wikipedia, until I reverted the vandalism on his page. I read his views and agreed, if that was wrong I apologize. I will not bring my personal views into wikipedia, if you please remove me from being a sockpuppet, and me being involved in that RfC. I never meant to do anything wrong. Willy O'Brien

Japanese temple naming

When reverting some vandalism, I noticed your comment on Talk:List of Buddhist temples (I guess vandalism can be useful after all). I put a link there with the naming conventions, but I wasn't sure if you would be checking back there for an answer, since the question is over a month old. Neier 05:59, 21 December 2005 (UTC)

Your reverting of my Homepage and Talkpage

I am advising you to stop reverting my homepage and talkpage. You are stating it is against Wikipedia rules to use a TEMPLATE on my homepage. Would you please provide the Wikipedia rule citation that supports your statement. I notice the the language templates are all over peoples homepages so I don't think your belief is correct. WritersCramp 19:31, 22 January 2006 (UTC)

First of all, it's not a homepage, it's a user page. Second, you cannot place those particular items on your user page because your user page is not an article. Third, I haven't reverted your talk page recently, but I suggest to you again, as I have done many times now, that you modify your behaviour if you don't want to be permanently banned from editing Wikipedia. Reversion to Spiked

Hi Exploding Boy, please don't revert without first understanding the reason for an edit and stating the grounds of your objection. In the case of Spiked I would have thought the point was pretty obvious but in case it needs spelling out: "Spiked" is not a drink, alcoholic or otherwise. If you want to have an article on spiking drinks, it would be normal (as I'm sure you know) to show it at the verb, spike, or as a noun, spiking. But of WP is not a dictionary and there doesn't seem to be anything to link to so the mention of this sense is perhaps not particularly useful anyway. Likewise, spiked does not mean "shoes" -- another adjective being equated with a noun. If you thought this was worth an article it should be at spiked shoes or suchlike, perhaps with a redirect from spikes -- but not spiked. A link to shoes (which should really go to shoe to avoid a double redirect) doesn't really tell us much about the word "spiked", does it? Of course a car could be red, but it doesn't mean you should be directed there if you look up red. Do you think many people will look up "Spiked (hairstyle)"? "Spiked" should be in itals when it refers to the magazine, but the word "(novel)" should not. Etc etc... There was a point to my edits! Thanks and best wishes, Flapdragon 00:28, 24 February 2006 (UTC)

Fair enough on the other stuff, but the hairstyle link should stay, since there have been recent changes to the link to that article (and since the title contains the word "spiked.") Exploding Boy 22:14, 25 February 2006 (UTC)

How is Arabic Wikipedia supposed to be helpful for the article on kimono?

Just wondering. Exploding Boy 22:38, 25 February 2006 (UTC)

First, thank you for posting this question before removing the template (some did that). This template is part of Wikipedia:Featured articles in other languages that try to make a list of articles that are featured in other languages. It serves two purposes: it gives sources for writing better articles (whether they are really useful or not), and it's for statistical purposes (eg: Most Hebrew FA's are Jews-Israeli-related articles, while the French Wiki emphaisises on philosophy-related articles...). See Category:Wikipedia featured articles in other languages. Anyway, I tried to shrink the template to make it less disturbing, but if there's any other objections, just let me know. CG 09:33, 26 February 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for your response, though I must confess I'm still confused as to why Arabic Wikipedia is given as a potential source for this Japanese subject. Exploding Boy 18:09, 27 February 2006 (UTC)
I saw the Arabic article. First, it's a featured article so that's why I put the template. But it might contain sources which a translator could translate. And also, we could take advantage of the many images used. CG 18:20, 27 February 2006 (UTC)

You said you wanted concrete naming conventions in order for me to use Western order, right?

Image Tagging Image:Cairo 52.jpg

This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Cairo 52.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{GFDL-self}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Stan 01:25, 8 March 2006 (UTC)

gay cruising in X

You are creating a lot of gay cruising in x articles, but they are all substubs. This dosen't seem to help the encyclopedia any more than making them redirects would be. Do you intend to expand them? Hpuppet - «Talk» 18:18, 16 March 2006 (UTC)

"A lot" = 2. Redirects to what, exactly? Obviously the intent is to expand them. If we can support an article on gay cruising in the United Kingdom (to which, incidentally, gay cruising currently redirects--not the best solution) then we can support similar articles for other countries. Exploding Boy 18:25, 16 March 2006 (UTC)

Gay Cruising Ground

b/c WP is not yellow pages, WP:NOT, as I stated with each edit. Gay cruising as a phenomenon requires one article, each country's political status of LGBT activity deserve on that country's LGBT history page, or on the overall LGBT legal situation page, and there is no call for listing "Ueno Park" or whatever on WP anymore than for me to create an article called McDonalds in Passaic, New Jersey, noting that one is located on the corner of X Street and Y Avenue. Sincerely, the.crazy.russian (T) (C) (E) 21:37, 17 March 2006 (UTC)

Again, I truly don't understand how an embedded list of gay cruising grounds is any more or less encyclopædic than an embedded list of McDonalds restaurants in New Jersey. It carries no scholarly value, and does not belong. I am not going to engage in an idiotic revert-war with you over this lest I be speedily convicted of anti-gay bias etc. etc. but I strongly suggest you delete the by-the-country gay cruising articles and consolidate it all into one article about the phenomenon of gay cruising, which is a worthy sociological subject minus the unworthy lists. See ya. the.crazy.russian (T) (C) (E) 01:12, 19 March 2006 (UTC)

Gay cruising in Australia

Hi there. I reverted your redirect of Gay beat to Gay cruising in Australia (well, actually I've swapped the redirect), simply because the article isn't about cruising, it specifically addresses beats. The stub would have to be significantly rewritten/ expanded (to include information on cruising in general) if that title were to make any sense - for now, it doesn't. Cheers Natgoo 18:43, 21 March 2006 (UTC)

Having had a quick look at it, it seems to contain similar information to the other articles, and changing the name would bring it in like. I'd like you to reconsider. Exploding Boy 22:01, 21 March 2006 (UTC)
I can understand why you'd think so, but a beat is the place where cruising takes place - it's a uniquely Australian use of the word (as far as I can tell) which is referred to many times in the stub. To have the title Gay cruising in Australia with the intro para reading "In Australia, the term beat is used to refer to an area frequented by gay men cruising for casual sex, and where sexual acts occur" and then to keep referring to beats throughout, without discussing cruising (unless in relation to beats) doesn't make sense. In this case conformity of the title with the scheme you have devised is inappropriate until the article is expanded. This discussion should probably move to the talk page unless it's just us making the decisions :) Natgoo 20:27, 22 March 2006 (UTC)

Sorry for not replying earlier, only I couldn't access WP yesterday evening. I have now had a chance to look over the evidence-as-presented in the various Talk pages referred to in the RfC. I am happy to endorse the sequence of events as described, as it appears to be an accurate summation of the concerned parties' behaviours. Regards,  (aeropagitica)  (talk)  06:07, 10 April 2006 (UTC)

LGBT Star Trek

I'd revert it again, but that would put me in violation of 3RR myself, right? --Etacar11 18:36, 10 April 2006 (UTC)

The 3RR rule doesn't generally apply to reverting vandalism. I've warned the user, blocked him for 15 minutes, and removed the disputed paragraph to the article's talk page. Please discuss it there. Exploding Boy 18:39, 10 April 2006 (UTC)

Names should not be italicized?

Normally, I would agree; but italicization is not uncommon when there's a reason for it, such as on first mention to indicate that the first name–surname order is reversed or when it is a precise romanization of a name normally written in a non-roman script; so don't be surprised when your comment and reversions prompt some contributors to re-italicized some names. Best regards, Jim_Lockhart 01:09, 14 April 2006 (UTC)

I've noticed that some of those articles don't have that new template thing for Japanese terms. Do you know how to add this? It may reduce confusion (or, conversely, may increase it, as it makes everything look like a question). Exploding Boy

Do you mean this one?

  {{Nihongo|New Meikai Japanese Dictionary|新明解国語辞典|shinmeikai kokugo jiten}}

for

New Meikai Japanese Dictionary (新明解国語辞典, shinmeikai kokugo jiten)

I've seen it, but I'm not sure I like it yet. I've inserted it in a few articles, but it gets tired fast. Unfortunately, I don't have anything to propose as a better alternative.... What are your thoughts on it? Jim_Lockhart 08:23, 14 April 2006 (UTC)

I thought it was a good idea when it was first proposed, but seeing it in place, I don't like it. I think it's confusing and, as I said above, it makes everything look like a question, or like we're not sure if we're right. Not being a programmer I don't know what the limitations are, but maybe it would be better if we had one of those mouseover links that pop up a little message saying "click here for more information on Japanese terms" or the like. Exploding Boy 16:19, 14 April 2006 (UTC)

four tildes instead of three

it is done with a good intent. because of my engrish, i regularly need to refresh my comment which may not make sense or have some gramattical errors. In fact, it could be more confusing to sign my name with four tildes because my comment reflect multiple time edit. It is not too difficult to follow my comment. My comment is either below the comment I'm responding to or set in new section. Plus, i try to leave the "intent" of the commment intact. Vapour

I'm not saying you have a bad intention, but it would be useful to know when the edits were made. Exploding Boy 03:40, 16 April 2006 (UTC)

Slower edit

There is no requirement in wikipedia that one must discuss and being aproved before making edit except in wikipedia policy articles. Only requirement is that each edit is explained so that it can be debated. Feel free to engage in debate. If you feel that my information is inaccurate, feel free to correct it. But you must provide explanation indicating why you feel that my edit contain inaccurate information. Your previous revert was problematic because you did not give argument in term of specific edit. Vapour

I have provided explanations, and I'm asking you to discuss changes before making them because, first, I don't agree with some of the changes you're making and second, the changes will need to be copyedited for language anyway. I have asked you repeatedly to slow down and discuss changes in order to avoid an edit war. You have also failed to respond to most of my comments on the talk page. I don't want to engage in an edit war, and would prefer to reach consensus on the talk page. Surely you don't have a problem with that? Exploding Boy 04:48, 17 April 2006 (UTC)

You left out funny, sometimes makes useful edits, and sometimes is accurate when standing up against others' groupthink. But, yeah, you nailed the relevant characteristics that keep him from being able to play well with others. I think his username and personality should be banned; and SS told he can come back with a different username using a different personality - maybe if he pretended to be a female with brain cancer and mood swings and who stayed out of arguments for health reasons? Sharon Stone, Sally Struthers, Susan Smith, all fine names for SS. Cheers. WAS 4.250 17:39, 18 April 2006 (UTC)

By definition, it is in an edit war. When single users are reverting each other constantly, it does not matter who is in the right - both are edit warring. If one side is clearly in the right, then seek out other methods of dispute resolution, but an edit war is not an acceptable one. Though I do disagree with him using "rvv" as an edit summary, your edits are certainly not vandalism. --Golbez 19:09, 19 April 2006 (UTC)

I kinda lost interest in flaming. Feel free to go ahead. Your grasp of japanese language is bit fuzzy so you probably should avoid making edit in term of japanese grammer. But hey, do whatever. It's wikipedia. Vapour

on Gay slang...

Just a second here. Why have you made this into two separate articles? There was no discussion, and I can't see any good reason for it. Now that new article is being considered for transwikiing. I think this move needs to be undone. Instead of an article, we now have a list with no context and a stub that will probably never be significantly expanded.

I've just checked the edit history, and it appears that it is you who have nominated the new page for transwikiing. Why? There's been no discussion, and the last time we discussed this the vote was not to do so. Exploding Boy 06:14, 23 April 2006 (UTC)

Hello. I made the changes you are addressing in the spirit of the Wikipedia "be bold" guideline in that I saw errors and attempted to make the gay slang article both more encyclopedic in focus and in better compliance with Wikipedia policies in general.
I did the things you pointed out for a couple of reasons. First, I moved the list since it was overpowering the encyclopedic article, Gay slang - which was never developed beyond a stub. An article on the development, history, and cultural impact of LGBT slang and regional dialects is a valid encyclopedic topic. But, the potential of having a much-needed encyclopedia article was not the focus of most editors - instead the majority of attention spent on it was with a "me too" hodge-podge of uncited, unverifiable likely original research which resulted in a very long list that overpowered any encyclopedia focus on the main topic.
Second, I put up the transwiki tag after recently reviewing Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not, specifically:

Wikipedia is not a dictionary
Wikipedia is not a dictionary, or a usage or jargon guide. Wikipedia articles are not:
1. Dictionary definitions. Because Wikipedia is not a dictionary, please do not create an entry merely to define a term. An article should usually begin with a good definition; if you come across an article that is nothing more than a definition, see if there is information you can add that would be appropriate for an encyclopedia. An exception to this rule is for articles about the cultural meanings of individual numbers.
2. Lists of such definitions. There are, however, disambiguation pages consisting of pointers to other pages; these are used to clarify differing meanings of a word. Wikipedia also includes glossary pages for various specialized fields.
3. A usage guide, or slang and idiom guide. Wikipedia is not in the business of saying how words, idioms, etc., should be used. We aren't teaching people how to talk like a Cockney chimney-sweep. However, it may be important in the context of an encyclopedia article to describe just how a word is used in order to distinguish among similar, easily confused ideas, as in nation or freedom. In some special cases an article about an essential piece of slang may be appropriate.
For a wiki that is a dictionary, visit our sister project Wiktionary.

Now, there was no overall agenda I had against gay slang or even a list of gay slang examples. My motivation behind my actions is that the LGBT topics in Wikipedia be excellent encyclopedia entries. To do this, we must make sure that they first meet the minimum standards of this project. An article on gay slang is a valid topic. The list, aside from being a dictionary/usage guide (not allowed in this project) is rife with original research and unverifiable content. Since I do have a personal bias in favor of LGBT articles, I didn't nominate it for deletion, which would have been the logical thing to do in this case.
As for a past votes, I'm not sure how that applies here since Wikipedia is not a democracy in that "votes" in this project are surveys of opinion for a given period of time. And it has been made clear many times by Jimbo that editors cannot "vote" to disregard basic Wikipedia mandatory policies. The list violates WP:NOR and WP:V, which are not really up for vote on a per-article basis. - Davodd 08:54, 23 April 2006 (UTC)
Hi again. I agree we are in a quandary as how to fit this list into the Wikipedia project. I am unaware of any other slang articles in Wikipedia that include such an exhaustive list. This is probably just me. Please point them out as maybe they can be used as examples of how to improve this "Gay slang" and its list.
As for the short nature of gay slang, WP has a long history of hosting many stub articles that sit for months - and sometimes years - until someone comes along with an expertise in that field and starts to expand it. Until that happens, today I plan to do the research and editing to move gay slang closer to the perfect stub until some linguist comes along with the expertise enough to beef it up.
Additionally, I was thinking about this dilemma last night. Maybe these types of guides should be moved to Wikibooks as linguistics manuals/texts. I think I will float this problem/opportunity in both the LGBT project her and at the community pump to get others' ideas. Davodd 18:18, 23 April 2006 (UTC)
P.S. I am moving this conversation to Talk:List of gay slang words and phrases. Davodd 18:22, 23 April 2006 (UTC)

MOTOROLA RAZR V3 - Reverted Edit Hey! Sorry about adding some b/s to some of the pages. However, I am going to re-add to the motorola page that Roger Jellicoe was in fact lead designer for the Motorola RAZR V3. This verifiable on several accounts ... including the reason I listed (my friend is in fact the son of Roger Jellicoe ... lead designer of the Motorola V3 RAZR). Also, if that isn't good enough for you ... then there was also an article in the Chicago Sun Times to this fact. Also, you could contact motorola or their managers or Roger himself(who I have numbers for) to verify. Or, you can take my word for it.

Hi. From comments on Sam Spade's RfC, I got the impression that quite a few users, including you, were in favor of an RFAr on Sam, though no one liked, or perhaps had the time, to be the one to post it. If I were to start a request on the RFAr page, would you be interested in signing as an involved party, and/or write a short statement there? I'm asking because if people have lost interest, there's obviously not much point in my doing it; it would merely distress and aggravate Sam unproductively, which I've certainly no wish to do. I wouldn't supply any examples of my own, as I haven't edited any of "Sam's articles" for a long time (couldn't stand it, that's why I stopped), but would basically simply refer to the RfC. It seems to me that anybody who wanted to endorse such an RFAr could more or less do the same, as the RfC is so complete. It's full of evidence, and its talkpage gives a view of Sam's attitude. I believe that it's important for the encyclopedia and the community that the old dog should learn new tricks, but please don't think I want to put the least pressure on you or anybody else to take part in an RFAr if you'd rather not. Exploding Boy, thank you for your contribution. I've written to wikipedia administration to know if you can delete again and again my post for "The Cure" wikipedia page. Let's see ... (unsigned post by User:86.206.19.133)

Update: Exploding Boy, you're right. Wikipedia replied to me that we don't have to put external links towards new information not available in wikipedia. So, for the instruments used by the cure, I have to write a wikipedia page, not to put a external link. After, I could put the link towards my website ... after a translation in english. For the language, be carreful because there are some external links towards french or spanish forum on the cure and the glove pages. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.206.168.58 (talkcontribs)

For the record..

Your comment on WP:AN about me and 'not enough editing articles' - I don't feel I have to justify myself to someone I hardly know, but I'll do it anyway: Aside from vandal hunting, I only make tiny WikiGnome type edits to articles. I don't write them (except for one).

I hardly think condemning me for this is a productive use of time. I remind you that we're trying to write an encyclopedia here, not picking apart the faults of others. Thanks. - Nathan 22:32, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

And I don't think that obsessing over this small issue (as you appear to be doing) is a productive use of time either. You are manufacturing insults where none exist, as you did on the RFC talk page. My comment was not a "condemnation," but a remark: you are spending too much time on the minor issue of your signature and not enough time creating an encyclopaedia (in whatever manner each of us does that). It's still true. And while we're putting things on the "record," I appreciate your recent small effort to modify your signature per my request, however the new version is if anything even worse. Now the entire thing appears even larger--don't ask me why that should be--so it's even more intrusive. As I have said before, it's far better to distinguish yourself by your edits than your signature. Exploding Boy 22:42, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

Your conflict with Nathan

Hi Exploding Boy, I just saw your comment and picture on Nathan's talk page. That seriously does look distorted! I am, however, surprised that it's just Nathan's signature? Does the same happen with other editors using a 'sup' thing? If so, could you please consider making some more screenshots and bring it up on the sig policy page, rather than on Nathan's page? I'm thinking of other readers here, who might encounter the same problem but don't know where to take it, but also of Nathan. I know that his behaviour and his reactions to some people have been far from ideal. However, I've also seen stuff that I can understand he's fed up with, and one of those things is that now he has changed his signature from the three images he had to something that people told him would be alright, he's still getting complaints about it. If you're indeed seeing his sig that way, I can imagine you're not happy with it, but for me it's hard to understand it's just his signature that you have that problem with. The only contact I've had with nathanrdotcom has been regarding his signature, and it's the only issue I have with him. I think the issue is the combination of the font and sup, not just the sup. Exploding Boy 00:14, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
the font is normal font, there are no font changes in his sig anymore, he took them out along time ago. User:ILovePlankton/IS 00:55, 4 June 2006 (UTC)

As you can see there are only font colour changes. User:ILovePlankton/IS 01:01, 4 June 2006 (UTC)

Well, I don't know. Maybe someone else can explain why it is that his particular signature is messed up. Exploding Boy 01:51, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
Mind, no-one else has reported these problems, so I've thought of a few possibilities...
Well, according to this, he uses two skins. --GeorgeMoney T·C 02:59, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
