DeLorme Atlas &Gazetteer Wisconsin

edit

Hi You may want to buy a copy of the DeLorme Atlas & Gazateer Wisconsin. I have one at home. This is great for finding various localities in the State of Wisconsin. You probably can make use of one. It saves trips to the public library and is well worth the price. Thanks-RFD (talk) 15:39, 23 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Delhi, Wisconsin

edit

I inserted Delhi, Wisconsin into the Winnebago County navigation template. I hope this helps you out with your article-RFD (talk) 14:24, 1 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

A photograph would be helpful for the article...of course you would have had taken the photograph yourself.
Also, I like photographing placed on the National Register of Historic Places and I completed the list for Winnebago County that day. I came through Eureka to photograph the Eureka Lock and Lock Tender's House, so I came through Eureka and photographed the community as long I was driving through. My photograph of the lock didn't turn out that well since I make a poor selection of roads to drive down. Do you have the time and desire to take a better shot of the lock and hopefully the house?
With this lock and house being on the National Register, it is considered inherently notable within Wikipedia standards since it has been nationally recognized. Please let me know if you're interested to write an article. I know of a way to create a basic article from some automated means. I'd paste the seed of the article in a place under your username and you could then develop it until it's ready to go live in mainspace. That's how most Wikipedia articles are actually written since the people watching the new pages are expecting new articles to be in decent shape when they first appear. You can see an example of something upcoming that I've worked on at User:Royalbroil/Sandbox2. I hope that your experience with the Eureka article wasn't too distasteful. I know that you had everything thrown at you at once. Lots of new people like to ask questions to people like RFD or me; we normally would work with newer people to make this easier to learn slowly. Please let me know before you're ready to upload the photograph and I'll explain several key points about uploading images. Royalbroil 05:41, 3 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
Funny that you would mention taking new pics. I went out this morning for that purpose. The gates were open at the Lock but the snow from the blizzard made it impossible to get close enough for good photos. For Delhi, I'll have to check with the property owner. I'll go back after the spring thaw. It would be nice to add good photos of the Fishway also. I would be glad to write an article so please feel free to seed it in my userspace.  :) As for the Eureka article.. I think it was a distasteful experience for everyone. Coming in, my intention was to try to help Polk County. Why would they want to be confused with Eureka Winnebago? I had even emailed internet sites that were mixing info from both. Anyway, now I understand the name rules. If I request another move, I'll be able to better articulate the proposal and know when to accept a compromise. Thanks for your help and understanding with this "newbie". I don't hold grudges and believe I can be an asset by contributing. Eurekanative (talk) 19:31, 3 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
I know that you can be a great asset, that's why I've spent the time to leave these messages - I figured that you'd return. You figured out most of what I was going to say about images. You uploaded to Commons and you did a fine job with selecting the license. One thing that you missed is adding categories. I added all of these images to the community's category on Commons. I have added the church and former post office to their appropriate "building type" categories. In the future, you can find these categories but going to Commons and start by searching Category:Wisconsin. These two happen to be subcategories under buildings; there are categories for geology as well as counties. Let me know if you have any questions either here or on Commons. I'm very experienced on both and I'm actually an administrator on both. Adminship not a position of authority that talks down to others, it just means that I'm experienced and trustworthy enough to not randomly delete anything. The article looks great and the category-you did an excellent job- The only thing that has to be done is putting an WikiProject Wisconsin template in the talk page-once the article is put out. An excellent job!RFD (talk) 00:55, 6 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Thank you! Eurekanative (talk) 01:31, 6 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
You probably don't need to use the unreviewed article tag anymore. RFD certainly could have removed it after his review. I reviewed this one and you did great! Perhaps you should consider the Did You Know (DYK) program which lists our best new content? I've done lots of contributing in DYK which is part of why I became an admin. I ran a DYK checking script on the article and it passed. You'd just have to think about a hook that would be interesting to a world audience. Royalbroil 05:45, 6 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
I added two WP templates relating to the rail & hiking trails-Many thanks-RFD (talk) 12:20, 6 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
