Speedy deletion nomination of Blackstartup

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Blackstartup, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. Dewritech (talk) 09:51, 17 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

The article was deleted under criterion G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, whereby articles which only serve to promote an organisation can be deleted. From my understanding, BlackStartup is a relatively new website, and the references you provided were written around the time of the website's launch. In my opinion, there hasn't been enough time for the website to generate successful crowdfunding ventures, which are a key indicator of notability for crowdfunding websites. Having independent evidence of the website achieving its goals is the best way to have an article approved. You may want to read Wikipedia:Plain and simple conflict of interest guide as I suspect you may be involved with BlackStartup in some form, based on your edit history. The links above should provide further information on the relevant guidelines. Harryboyles 16:03, 17 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
I've had a change of heart after reviewing things further, and I have decided to restore the article. I can see that you are genuinely willing to put in the effort to improve it. As a starting point on what to add, I'd suggest a balance between the following content:
  1. The history and the need for a crowdfunding website to support African-Americans,
  2. Key elements of the business model,
  3. Successful projects,
  4. Reception of the website and what others have said about it (including the websites you listed on my talk page)
Distributing the references within the text (inline referencing) so that your references support each sentence will help boost the quality (see Wikipedia:Citing sources). If you have further questions about improving the article, the Teahouse is a friendly place where new editors can ask questions. I wish you good luck. Harryboyles 16:13, 19 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
