Cheers edit

Damon Runyon's short story "Dancing Dan's Christmas" is a fun read if you have the time. Right from the start it extols the virtues of the hot Tom and Jerry

This hot Tom and Jerry is an old-time drink that is once used by one and all in this country to celebrate Christmas with, and in fact it is once so popular that many people think Christmas is invented only to furnish an excuse for hot Tom and Jerry, although of course this is by no means true.

No matter what concoction is your favorite to imbibe during this festive season I would like to toast you with it and to thank you for all your work here at the 'pedia this past year. Best wishes for your 2020 as well E81. MarnetteD|Talk 21:08, 18 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

Pronoun usage edit

I appreciate you made your recent edit in good faith. However, the recent change to the gender of the Doctor character has required a new challenge for pronouns regarding the Doctor as an overall character. Before, quite obviously, the Doctor was always referred to as a "he", even by Colin Baker in the documentary "Thirty years in the TARDIS". This no longer applies, but they and their suggests we are referring to multiple incarnations as separate characters, rather than the same character with a different persona. This has to be considered. [[User:Roderickstilley|Roderickstilley]] ([[User talk:Roderickstilley|talk]]) (talk) 03:31, 16 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

The Singular they has centuries of use as is more succinct than "regenerate the body" - whose body is being regenerated? the singular they is more clear in this instance. Etron81 (talk) 03:39, 16 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

List of Doctor Who DVD releases moved to draftspace edit

An article you recently created, List of Doctor Who DVD releases, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. scope_creepTalk 09:20, 4 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

September 2022 edit

Hello, I'm Scope creep. I wanted to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions to List of Doctor Who Blu-ray releases have been undone because they appeared to be promotional. Advertising and using Wikipedia as a "soapbox" are against Wikipedia policy and not permitted; Wikipedia articles should be written objectively, using independent sources, and from a neutral perspective. Hello Etron81. The nature of your edits, such as the one you made to List of Doctor Who Blu-ray releases, gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization.

Paid advocates are very strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are extremely strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.

Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:Etron81. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Etron81|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. scope_creepTalk 09:48, 4 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

I am not being paid by anybody for my edits regarding Doctor Who or anything else. I am simply a fan Etron81 (talk) 12:54, 4 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Etron81: Then why are you putting in these Amazon links in your articles, which is uncool, against policy as WP:PROMO and its breaks Wikipedia Terms of Use? scope_creepTalk 14:17, 4 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
They were copied over from the article it was split from, which had these links and similar for years Etron81 (talk) 14:19, 4 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
They are against policy. You put them in. You need to take then out. scope_creepTalk 14:22, 4 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Etron81: You article has redirected by another editor in good standing who is also an NPP reviewer. scope_creepTalk 14:33, 4 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Scope creep: Etron did not put those links in. What's with the false accusations? I recommend that you assume good faith with your fellow editors. – Rhain 14:42, 4 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Scope creep: If I made a mistake I will apologise. I checked the List of Doctor Who Blu-ray releases revision history. Here is a revision from 26 September 2021. [1], there is already four Amazon links in. scope_creepTalk 14:51, 4 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
those were from an earlier attempt to split the page in my sandbox, again copied over from the home video page at the time Etron81 (talk) 14:59, 4 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
(edit conflict) @Scope creep: (FYI, you pinged yourself.) The Amazon links were slowly added by many users over many years; as has been stated, they are there to verify titles and release dates. They are not promo links, and their usage, while likely excessive, is not entirely inappropriate. Regardless, baseless (and false) accusations against Etron are unhelpful. – Rhain 15:01, 4 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Rhain: It has to stop somewhere. At first I thought he was a WP:UPE. I don't understand why your arguing against what is established consensus. They are completely illegal. Its the same things with fans every time when you bring up policy. There is really only one reason why editors put these links in and that is to promote a product, which is strictly against the terms of use. If there is other editors still adding these in, like it 2006 then you need to tell them to stop. It is completely uncool. scope_creepTalk 15:13, 4 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Rhain: Are you going to fix this article? scope_creepTalk 15:13, 4 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Scope creep: Having initial suspicions of paid editing is understandable, but accusing an editor of doing so—and then doubling down on it without doing any decent research—is bad faith. As is assuming that editors would add those links simply to promote a product. It's not "completely illegal", and I've already provided you with the relevant guidelines stating so. – Rhain 15:30, 4 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of List of Doctor Who Blu-ray releases edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on List of Doctor Who Blu-ray releases, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. scope_creepTalk 09:51, 4 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Terror of the Zygons.jpg edit

Thank you for uploading File:Terror of the Zygons.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.

This bot DID NOT nominate any of your contributions for deletion; please refer to the history of each individual page for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 09:00, 3 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

ReferenceExpander edit

Just a friendly heads-up in case you weren't already aware, since it's installed on your common.js: Careless use of ReferenceExpander has caused serious problems. It's currently at MFD, and a large cleanup project is underway to repair the citations damaged by the script. I and several other users have !voted that the script be deleted or disabled, and I wouldn't recommend using it at all unless you thoroughly check every reference it modifies against the previous revision. If you're interested in a more detailed explanation of the script's issues, Folly Mox has provided an excellent summary at the MFD. — SamX [talk · contribs] 05:15, 1 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
