File source problem with File:Esther Applunius.jpg edit

File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:Esther Applunius.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 06:11, 29 June 2009 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Peripitus (Talk) 06:11, 29 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Working together on the Esther Applunius article... edit

Hello, Estherfc. I noticed that there had been a lot of issues raised about the article Esther Applunius article that you've done a lot of work on, so I decided to try to tackle them all. I thought I'd explain what I'd done, in case you feel that I've "messed up" your hard work :)

  • I tackled the "references" issue - Wikipedia needs reliable third-party references (not webpages that all kinds of people can edit), so I've searched for and found references on newspaper websites, the 8TV website and the Official Web Site of Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment, Sabah. I commented the others out (you can see them only in edit mode) – most are blogspot, with a few media, so don't provide the serious rigour that Wikipedia seeks to achieve.
  • I've put links (on the left of the pages) between Esther Applunius and ms:Esther Applunius Chin on Malaysian Wikipedia, and made a few improvements to the Malaysian page.
  • I've added categories to the page (shown at the bottom).
  • I removed most of the long list of "Performance and singing competitions", since there are no third-party sources to cite, and they make the whole article look a bit like a CV that she has written herself.
  • I've wikilinked song names and singers in the OIAM table.

One serious issue remains – the photograph of Esther appears to have been uploaded without proper copyright clearance, and as such is likely to be deleted soon. Wikipedia can only use images that don't infringe copyright. Can you get a photo that is Public Domain, or has an acceptable licence? (I've searched, but cannot find one on the internet.) Or do you know the copyright holder of the photo that is on the page, and whether they would be willing to release that photo under a suitable licence?

Hope that helps to explain what is going on. Incidentally, do you know Esther, or are you just a fan?
