Hi, Justlettersandnumbers, I contacted Cirque du Soleil directly regarding your comment about the material found on their webpage being copyrighted, and their answer is that the material on those pages is part of their press releases, and free to use if needed. I actually explained them what I used their information for, and they answered they have no problem with me using it in the creation of the Wikipedia page for the Cirque du Soleil show Volta. Please let me know how to proceed in this case, to reinstate the Wikipedia page I have created, and let me know if you need me to forward you the e-mail I received directly from them stating this material is free to use. The page I created also has several other references to independent material that are free to use for the creation of the Wikipedia page of this show. Thanks. Teahouse edit

Hi! You've had an invitation to the Teahouse, but have not tried posting there. Why don't you give it a try? You might get the same answers you've had from me, or some different ones. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 20:17, 18 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

Thank you, I might give it a try. Unfortunately, so far, this has been a very frustrating and confusing experience, as some article creation rules and "standards" apply to some pages, but not to others, and when I have questioned the reason for some of the decisions taken by editors, I have received sometimes hostile answers and snarky comments. I now have a bad taste in my mouth due to this, but as I said, I might give it a try in the future. Thanks again for the suggestion. Estebanpirazo (talk) 12:35, 20 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

Factual information deleted from the Crystal show article edit

  Moved from my talk.
 – Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 18:44, 8 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Justlettersandnumbers, I would like to know the reason of deleting uncontroversial factual information about the Cirque du Soleil show Crystal(basic general information, show dates, show's creative team).

Due to issues we have been previously having with the Volta show, and to your suggestion, I asked the question on the Wikipedia Teahouse, and this was the answer I got:

"Wikipedia has essentially no interest in what the subject of an article, or anybody closely associated with the subject, says about the subject. This is not 100% true - sometimes uncontroversial factual data about a subject, such as places and dates, may be added to an article that are taken from non-independent sources such as press releases or their own website; but most of the content in any article should come from published sources completely independent of the subject. If there is not enough about the subject from completely independent sources, then it is impossible to write an acceptable article about it - the jargon is that the subject is not notable."

My understanding from the bold part of the answer is that such factual information is okay to be added to an article, coming from a press release or the official website of the show. According to the answer I received on the Wikipedia Teahouse, could you please revert the deletions made to this article, and add again the factual information that it contained?, or explain to me why is this information being deleted from the article?, and also if this same information should be deleted also from the other 40 shows presented by Cirque du Soleil? Thanks. Estebanpirazo (talk) 18:32, 8 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hi! You tell me you want a different opinion, but then ask mine again. I'm not sure what to do about that, but here's my answer (unchanged from before). As I've said over and over again, Wikipedia doesn't care what people or organisations say about themselves – Wikipedia is built on independent reliable sources. Lists of dates and minor personnel are not encyclopaedic material – please see WP:NOTDIR, which stands for "Wikipedia is not a directory". If you find such material elsewhere, you can remove it.
Question: do you have some connection to the show or its organisers? If so, you must declare it. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 18:44, 8 January 2018 (UTC)Reply
Justlettersandnumbers, thanks for getting back to me. I came back to you because I received on the Teahouse (as per your suggestion) an answer completely different to the answers I've been receiving from you. I am confused still, because if you read the answer I received, it is okay to use a non-independent source for factual information, and still, you keep answering that this is not acceptable. I just want to know what the real problem is in here... or if you are now going to start editing all of the other 40 shows and deleting information according to your rule about factual information. FYI, I am a big fan of Cirque du Soleil, but that's it; I have no direct or indirect connection whatsoever with the show or its organizers, other than purchasing tickets in the past to attend some of their shows. Right at this moment, I think it is very unfair the way my questions and my edits have been handled, and I am not happy with the way things have been managed here. Final question: are you going to revise each Cirque du Soleil show Wikipedia article and delete all the factual information you encounter because it does not come from an independent source?. Good luck! Estebanpirazo (talk) 17:25, 9 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Alegría: In a New Light edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Alegría: In a New Light requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://www.cirquedusoleil.com/press/kits/shows/alegria. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.
