Requests for uncreated articles edit

Greetings & a great weekend to you all. I believe it would be great if the (Requests for uncreated articles) section in our wiki project can be attended to & at least one article be created this weekend as some requests have been pending since 2016. I believe this would be pivotal to the encyclopedia as a whole & a means to get editors who have gone inactive to revive their Wikipedia activities. Sent by Celestina007. Eruditescholar I went through your page and I must say that you are doing a great job. I need your help. I created an article titled Ikenna Aniekwe and it appears it hasn't been approved, I don't find it listed when I use a search engine. Apparently there is something I need to do be publication. Please what am I supposed to do differently? MarkCarey911 (talk) 07:13, 16 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Your advice on BUX article edit

Hi. Please take a look at Draft:BUX (brokerage). It is a properly stated WP:COI contribution about a Dutch brokerage company. Considering your great experience of editing Wikipedia and also the fact that you are a member of WP:FINANCE, I decided to ask for your advice. My concern is that most of the sources for this article are in Dutch. Do you see it as a problem? Are there any specific requirements for financial services companies, that I should follow? What could/should be improved in the article? Thanks! Peter. --Bbarmadillo (talk) 14:28, 31 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hi. I just saw your message and decided to leave a quick reply. Revealing the WP:COI status of the article is a step in the right direction but not guaranteed for viability. WP:GNG is the general notability guideline for articles which you should refer to. Since most of the sources included in the article are Dutch-related, it might imply that the company is more known in the Dutch-speaking world than the English-speaking world. The evident inclusion of some English sources may lend support. Notwithstanding, the quality of the sources (i.e. reliable and independent) is more important than the language used in publication and it should carry a lot of weight in the final assessment by AFC reviewers. You may also want to look at WP:Org for further guidance. I hope that helps. Eruditescholar (talk) 15:49, 31 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

December 2020 edit

Hello, I'm Namiba. I noticed that you made an edit concerning content related to a living (or recently deceased) person on Olaoluwa Abagun, but you didn't support your changes with a citation to a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now. Wikipedia has a very strict policy concerning how we write about living people, so please help us keep such articles accurate and clear. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Do not add unreferenced ethnicity categories. You have been warned (and blocked) for this multiple times before. Please revert any such categories you've added before further action is taken. User:Namiba 00:30, 26 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

December 2020 edit

To enforce edit restrictions placed by the community,

you have been temporarily blocked from editing. You are welcome to make useful contributions once the block expires; however, please note that the repetition of similar behavior may result in a longer block.
If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, you may appeal this block by first reading the guide to appealing blocks, then adding the following text below this notice: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here.

My contributions in Wikipedia till date have encompassed not just article categorizations but article creations and article improvements whenever feasible. I am well aware of Wikipedia’s editing policies regarding biographical articles on living people. My reason for revealing this information is not necessarily to appeal my temporary blockage but to point out the real motive of the editor who recently reported me to Administrators. He is aware of my rationale on Nigerian ethnic-related categorizations based on the fact that he has been the only editor reporting me on this issue. There are records of his disruptive editing years back which I have successfully reverted. In addition, I have also observed his edits since my current temporary blockage. For instance, just to cite a few examples: In addition to removing my categorizations on Ryan Olowofela, he removed multiple valid categorizations. Other examples of his disruptive editing includes Sade Baderinwa, Jadesola Akande, Aduke Alakija, Funke Bucknor-Obruthe, Julie Adenuga and Kofoworola Bucknor among others which actually have reliable sources citing their ethnicity as Yoruba. Based on my recent observation, he is the one being disruptive, not me. It is evident that he is just blindly removing categories without verifying if there are reliable sources to that effect. Another of his controversial actions which is an aftermath of this incident is his recent proposal for deletion of an existing category (Yoruba diplomats). I don't see any valid justification for this. I affirm that as a Nigerian editor, I have a better understanding (and in extension, superior authority on Nigerian-related articles.) He should focus on applying his corrective editing measures on American-related articles, not on Nigerian-related articles. Based on recent developments, there’s feasibility that he may have an ulterior motive other than to improve the articles in question and his goal is to portray my contributions in a negative light. In as much as Wikipedia’s purpose is to provide information to readers, I am willing to do what is necessary to make that a reality. Just to restate the rationale behind my categorizations. Whenever, I add ethnic categories to biographical articles, I have a very good reason. For instance: For all biographical articles, the basic criteria is that the subject has Nigerian, Beninese or Togolese origins or descent and has Yoruba names. (Names are a crucial aspect of the Yoruba cultural identity). If the subject of the biographical article is female and married, I get the required information from her maiden name; her father’s name or surname. If any of the above criteria are missing, I look for other reliable sources to ascertain ethnicity such as relatives, i.e. offspring, siblings, parents, ancestor, extended family relatives, etc. In other cases, the ethnic-related information or sources may not be directly included in the article; the sources may be alternatively linked to a relation who also has an existing article. Alternatively, the sources may be indirectly linked to other articles related to the subject. It will be impractical to solely apply Western standards of ethnicity to Africans. I am not trying to imply that Wikipedia’s policies are biased against African editors but to reveal the specifics of this situation. -Eruditescholar (talk)

Reminder to administrators: Edit restrictions placed by the community are enacted by community consensus. In order to overturn this block, you must either receive the approval of the blocking administrator or consensus at a community noticeboard (you may need to copy and paste their statement to a community noticeboard).

You have repeatedly violated your topic ban on adding ethnic categories to articles. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 02:06, 26 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for your notification. I try my best to comply with Wikipedia's editing policies. I don't add categories to articles unless I deem it relevant or necessary. In many cases, I add reliable sources to support my edits or categorizations and in the remaining ones that I am unable to add sources, there are existing supporting evidences related to the article's topic or subject to validate my edits. I'm not surprised that this issue has been brought up again by this same editor. If what I have contributed to Wikipedia till date has been really disruptive, he wouldn't be the only editor reporting me to the Administrators for disciplinary action. Multiple editors would have done likewise. This latest incident only confirms that he has probably been stalking my edits to achieve his goal. -Eruditescholar (talk) 08:32, 26 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
Compliments of the season Eruditescholar, I remember this case from 2017 as I believe I was indirectly involved. It is unfortunate that you have been blocked for two weeks for violating the topic ban. I want to assume good faith that what Namibia is trying to enforce is that before you can add a category that suggest that an individual is "Yoruba" you need a source where it is explicitly stated. And not just because the person has a Yoruba name, there might be some merit in that argument and I can give examples. Considering the current realities, I want to recommend that whenever you think Namibia is indiscriminately removing appropriate categories from articles, create a discussion in WP:WikiProject Nigeria, so I and other interested editors will weigh in on it. This is because the topic ban prevents you from directly editing the article, but you can make recommendations through other editors. What I am saying is that even if your edits are on point, the fact that there is an active ban means you should not be the one to edit it else you will be doing the right thing the wrong way. You can also appeal the removal of the topic ban after a while (I believe 6-12 months of no issue should be enough). For now, I advise you spend the next 2 weeks enjoying the holiday, then return back better. You are doing an excellent job on Wikipedia, and I respect you for that. HandsomeBoy (talk) 16:12, 28 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
Okay. Noted. Thanks.-Eruditescholar (talk) 19:32, 28 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
Casting aspersions onto my editing habits is not assuming good faith. My edits are based on policies that have been repeatedly pointed out to this editor and persistently ignored. Per WP:RS "Contentious material about living persons (or, in some cases, recently deceased) that is unsourced or poorly sourced—whether the material is negative, positive, neutral, or just questionable—should be removed immediately and without waiting for discussion."]] Adding categories to any article based on your own standard is not allowed. For the purposes of Wikipedia, ethnicity can not be determined by name or nationality. You must provide reliable and independent sources which explicitly state a subject's ethnicity, religion, nationality or any other feature. Given the above response from Eruditescholar and the numerous times they have been told to read WP:RS and WP:BLP, I am not confident that the editor is willing to comply with basic Wikipedia standards for editing. It's a shame because we need more high quality editors on Africa-related content. Being African oneself does not make you an expert on the topic nor are you a reliable source on a subject's ethnicity. Lastly, I strongly urge you to familiarize yourself with the core policy of verifiability. Please consider this before editing once more.--User:Namiba 17:44, 28 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
My categorizations are not solely based on my own standards. As much as possible, I also comply with WP: BLP and WP:RS while editing. I have just stated the facts and pointed out some of your disruptive editing till date which you are trying to wrongly portray as good intentions -Eruditescholar (talk) 19:32, 28 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
The standard for including potentially controversial information is far higher than the personal standard you describe above. If you were familiar with Wikipedia's policies, you would know that. If there is not a source explicitly stating that someone is a member of X group, you cannot include that information. Period. That's the standard. There is no room for personal standards.--User:Namiba 20:09, 28 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
