Thomas Peters edit

It is an embarrassment that on Wikipedia an article on Thomas Peters does not reflect the fact that there is no documentary evidence to point to Thomas Peters being born in Nigerian or being of Yoruba descent and that this scholarly error first arose with a historically inaccurate account by perhaps the most inaccurate historian on Sierra Leone, Captain F.B. Butt-Thompson, who was well-intended and provided some useful oral history but largely published unverified errors. Not the Book of Negroes, nor any other source refers to Peters being African-born and worse still, Fyfe, the pre-eminent historian of Sierra Leone, never claimed that Peters was Nigerian.

But even worse still is that a painting of Olaudah Equiano, aka Gustavus Vassa is being used as a portrait or representation of Thomas Peters on Wikipedia. This is beyond disgraceful and reinforces the notion that Wikipedia is unreliable.

Perhaps worst of all is that when I have tried to correct these gross errors that take away from the credibility of Wikipedia, the corrections are accused of being vandalism.

--Wikiaddict6989 (talk) 19:53, 20 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

I have observed that your recent edits on the biographical article of Thomas Peters are blatant vandalism because they include removal of cited information and inclusion of unsourced entries which are violations of Wikipedia's editing policy. The reliable sources in the article cite his place of birth as Nigeria and his ethnicity as Egba-Yoruba. Your assertions are just mere speculation and are not backed by any reliable source. If your claims regarding the biographical article are indeed true, other scholars, researchers and historians would have published works to reveal the truth. Even the specific image used as Thomas Peters' picture that you tried to remove a couple of times has never been verified for Olaudah Equino but has been cited as Thomas Peter's in multiple reliable sources used, compared to the other image. -- Eruditescholar (talk) 22:38, 20 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

Latunde Odeku edit

He's not American. He's African. Rathfelder (talk) 23:15, 10 November 2017 (UTC).Reply

Like I stated in my edit summary: He was not just African but he spent a good part of his active life in the United States while making history in the field of neurosurgery, to the extent that he earned some recognitions. Besides some slight cultural differences and some partial ancestries with other ethnic groups or races from different parts of the world, the only major difference between an African and an African-American is the location. The former is based in Africa while the latter is based in the United States. The real issue based on your argument might be whether to classify him as an expatriate or not. - Eruditescholar (talk) 10:41, 11 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

Article on Carlota (slave rebel) edit

Hi, my name is Manuel Barcia and I just wanted to bring to your attention my book from 2014 West African Warfare in Bahia and Cuba (Oxford University Press, 2014) where I actually discuss Carlota's role in the 1843 Triumvirate revolt at some length. The reason I mention this, is because you cited my 2008 book where, as you correctly said, I barely discuss her role and that of Firming. Also, important to mention, that your methodological section could also consider including my discussion of the reasons of African slaves in Cuba to go to war in the first half of the 19th century. Please do check it out. The book came out before Aisha Finch's and just as Ada Ferrer's book came out to, and it engages with both. This is a topic that is dear to my heart (as it happens, I was the Atlantic Studies editor that saw Myra Houser to a successful publication from the moment she submitted), and I wouldn't like to leave anything out of this discussion, especially considering that my 2014 book actually engages directly with this. Best wishes

Manuel Barcia

PS: Could you please also correct the way you cite me. My books are authored by Manuel Barcia, not Manuel Barcia Paz. I don't use that name unless I need to for official reasons. Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mbarcia24 (talkcontribs) 10:39, 21 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Prof. Barcia. Thanks for you message. Yes, I contributed to the biographical article of Carlota in its early stages but most of the additional information and citations were added by another editor (Libbygoldman). I subsequently did some minor corrections on the article afterwards. You might want to relay your observation to him since he made most of the recent edits which you higlighted from the article. Regarding the error in the citing your book; your name has been corrected - Eruditescholar (talk) 07:40, 22 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

New Page Reviewing edit

Hello, Eruditescholar.

I've seen you editing recently and you seem knowledgeable about Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.
Would you please consider becoming a New Page Reviewer? Reviewing/patrolling a page doesn't take much time but it requires a good understanding of Wikipedia policies and guidelines; currently Wikipedia needs experienced users at this task. (After gaining the flag, patrolling is not mandatory. One can do it at their convenience). But kindly read the tutorial before making your decision. Thanks. — Insertcleverphrasehere (or here) 10:16, 27 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

I notice that you have the "administrator someday" userbox. Reviewing new pages is one of the best ways to develop experience needed to successfully wield the mop. — Insertcleverphrasehere (or here) 10:16, 27 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

Removing promotional content edit

Hi.

I'm trying to remove a promotional article tag on the article Hotels.ng I made an edit which was deleted. After that I went back to do some more reading and so far cannot seem to understand why the page has that tag.

Can you help with a few pointers about what I should be doing? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Oluwaisinvolved (talkcontribs) 17:50, 28 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

Autopatrolled granted edit

Hi Eruditescholar, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the "autopatrolled" permission to your account, as you have created numerous, valid articles. This feature will have no effect on your editing, and is simply intended to reduce the workload on new page patrollers. For more information on the autopatrolled right, see Wikipedia:Autopatrolled.
