About adoption

edit

Hi there! My name is Brambleberry. I see that you wish to be adopted by a more experienced user. When adopters are looking for possible adoptees, they generally want to get an idea of what your interests are on Wikipedia. This involves telling a little bit about yourself, your interests, and your hobbies on your user page. This would involve more than just the three userboxes you have on their now. For example, on my user page, I include what WikiProjects I'm in, what languages I speak, animals, music, video games, and media I like, and what pages I wrote. öBrambleberry_ meow _ watch me in action 22:43, 6 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Well, it's not perfect, but I updated by about me page to be more in-depth. I should've done that from day one. Thanks for the prompt ;) EpicWitch (talk) 17:29, 11 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

I'd be happy to adopt you

Hello, I'm The Transhumanist.

I've been a participant since Fall 2005. I'm a very active editor (I've contributed over 100,000 edits, including 16,000 on early accounts). I've recently returned from a several month long (and badly needed) wikivacation (though I still dabbled and kept an eye on things). I'm back at full speed now. Feels good.

I like your user page and personal profile.

Probably due to my RPG background, I like spell metaphors and metaphorical spells. Like how templates are portrayed as spells at WikiWitch. Another type of wikispell are shortcuts, which teleport you all over the wiki. My favorite type of wikispell are scripts (including gadgets).

There are many mental counterparts to wikispells, like mnemonic devices for recalling (summoning) memories, moods, and entire states of mind. Psychological self-control techniques, such as NLP, classical conditioning, autogenics, and autosuggestion can be applied through roleplaying as mental "spells", to "charm" oneself into taking specific action, or to "summon" new attitudes, new virtues, new habits, or new abilities within oneself for the purpose of attaining them. Or to strengthen convictions when needed (similar to prayer), or formalize (i.e. ritualize) procedures. The spells in The Book of Abramelin are especially interesting when "cast" within the imagination (one's personal virtual reality) to stimulate ideas or to vent one's frustrations.

I've mentored before, but it was under the (now defunct) Admin Coaching program (though I am not, and never have been an admin). Seven of my students went on to survive RfA and receive their mops (admin status). One of them is now a Bureaucrat, and another is on ArbCom.

Some of the projects I've spearheaded include the Help index system, the Tip of the day (displayed on the Community portal), Wikipedia's department directory, revamping the Welcoming committee and its welcome templates, building the User page design center, and running the outline department.

My favorite article is meaning of life, with many other articles coming in a close second. I love knowledge in general, and have edited over 18,000 pages on WP. I hope you feel that I'm qualified to show you "the way of the wiki".

I look forward to your reply to my offer. Sincerely, The Transhumanist 19:48, 20 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

P.S.: Feel free to ask me any questions you may have. If I don't know the answers, I'm sure I can help you find them. –TT

Honored By Your Offer!

Greetings Transhumanist! I have to say that I am honored that you would consider adopting me, and I'm sorry that it took me so long to get on and check my inbox. I've been over-working myself making movie magic on fiverr, creating scribed animations and powtoons for the worlds online businesses, lol.

Thank you also, for the detailed and relevant info about wikispells, I definitely would like to learn more about using them in the right places and at the right times. Especially the Shortcuts and Mnemonic Devices, which I've always had a bit of trouble with using. Though I'm sure with a responsive mentor like yourself around, it would be easy enough to learn. =)

Well, what is a good place for us to start our adoptee-adopter relationship? Do we exchange any badges/tags? Or do we jump into a project your working on or maybe create our own? I'm up for just about anything.

P.S. As you can probably tell, this is not a template. -- Thus Spake Lee Tru. 20:51, 4 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
