Speedy deletion nomination of Lanie Banks

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Lanie Banks requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from eachamps.com/Lanie-Banks.html. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. ‡ Єl Cid of ᐺalencia ᐐT₳LKᐬ 13:43, 17 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

Lanie Banks moved to draftspace

edit

An article you recently created, Lanie Banks, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please follow the prompts on the Articles for Creation template atop the page. ... discospinster talk 13:49, 17 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hello - the issue with your article is that it was directly copied from another source. For legal reasons, WP cannot host content which is taken from copyrighted sources. Hello Elizabethfoundationn -- I've deleted this article because it partially duplicates the existing article Wikipedia; however critique of Wikipedia is perfectly appropriate content, as long as it is appropriately sourced eg to newspapers, magazines or similar. Re your message on my talk page

edit

Hi Elizabeth -- thanks for the message, and thanks for your efforts at contributing articles on African topics, which as you are aware are woefully underrepresented on Wikipedia. I can't really comment on Lanie Banks because popular musicians are well out of my usual editing area. It was deleted after a community discussion at Articles for deletion, which was advertised appropriately, and not just on Bearcat's deletion nomination. The major concern was that it lacked reliable independent sources, ie things like articles or reviews in national newspapers, magazines or independent review websites. These need not be in English, of course, and need not be available online. Usually two or three from different places are enough.

You can request that the deleting admin, 78.26, reconsider and reopen the deletion discussion. If that fails, then you can request a formal deletion review. In my experience such deletions are rarely overturned, however, and honestly the best advice might be to just move on, write about a different topic, and wait for the press to cover Banks at more length. Pretty much everyone who tries to create content here has had their content deleted at one time or another, and it's frustrating, but there are always plenty of other gaps in the encyclopedia to plug!

Have you encountered the Teahouse, by the way? They are a friendly forum for newcomers and might be able to give you more specific advice. Cheers, Espresso Addict (talk) 00:20, 27 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hi Elizabeth!
Yes, the News tab in Google is good, but I think it only covers recent newspapers and not magazines. A lot of things come up just in the usual Google search. For older topics, you can also try Google Books (on the same More tab as News).
One minor thing, when you ask a new question on a talk page (both user talk and article talk) you should click the "New section" tab to do so. That puts your comment in the correct place and gives it its own section. Best of luck, Espresso Addict (talk) 08:05, 12 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
