December 2019 edit

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. We appreciate your contributions; however, it appears you may have written a Wikipedia article about yourself, at User:Elisabete A Silva. Creating an autobiography is strongly discouraged – please see our guideline on writing autobiographies. If you create such an article, it may be deleted. If what you have done in life is genuinely notable and can be verified according to our policy for articles about living people, someone else will probably create an article about you sooner or later (see Wikipedians with articles). If you wish to add to or change an existing article about yourself, you are welcome to propose the changes by visiting the article's talk page. Please understand that this is an encyclopedia and not a personal web space or social networking site. If your article has already been deleted, please see: Why was the page I created deleted?, and if you feel the deletion was an error, please discuss this with the deleting administrator. Your user page will be deleted soon. It is not intended to hold your personal autobiography. Liz Read! Talk! 15:57, 26 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of User:Elisabete A Silva edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on User:Elisabete A Silva, requesting that it be deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under two or more of the criteria for speedy deletion, by which pages can be deleted at any time, without discussion. If the page meets any of these strictly-defined criteria, then it may soon be deleted by an administrator. The reasons it has been tagged are:

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Speedy deletion nomination of Zenia Kotval edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Zenia Kotval requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://www.canr.msu.edu/people/zenia_kotval. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

Some thoughts... edit

Hi there — I stumbled across your recent articles, which are now proposed for deletion, and wanted to offer my two penn'orth.

  1. There really should be no need to contact the article subject and ask for permission to create an article on them, as you've done in both cases; if anything, that act alone may already create a possible conflict of interest (COI), as you by definition now have something of an external relationship with the person in question. I'm just mentioning this so you understand it (having contacted them) doesn't strengthen your case, and probably does the opposite. COI is one of the surest ways to get your articles deleted and yourself blocked, so you really have to be extra careful with that. —— see WP:COI
  2. The other big no-no is copyright violations: copying and pasting from other sources is almost always forbidden; there are some exceptions like small excerpts and copying from sources which expressly allow this, but even then there are strict rules that must be obeyed, otherwise you'll land yourself in hot water. You already have two strikes, so my advice would be to remove any and all copied content ASAP (even if that means most of the article) in an attempt to rescue the articles, and to familiarise yourself with the copyright rules. —— see WP:COPYVIO
  3. The third major issue with both articles in question is complete lack of references. As a rule of thumb, content shouldn't be added which cannot be verified, and this is especially the case when writing about living people. And where an entire article is without a single reference, it immediately gives rise to the claim that the article subject is non-notable, which is bound to result in proposal to delete. So that's another thing you must do immediately, if you want to save these articles: add verifiable references from independent, reliable sources. —— see WP:N and WP:RS

All the other problems with these articles, like not having any internal links or categories, or being not perfectly formatted, or reading like résumés, are secondary.

Hope this helps at all, — DoubleGrazing (talk) 06:03, 9 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

>>>>>>>>>>>>> Reply Elisabete: Hi, this is really helpful. Many thanks. I am not sure if this is the way to answer to your comment. But, it seemed the only way to directly reply. I assumed that contacting them would help me proof that would be a reliable sources i.e. the ok-ed my work. that I wasn't doing something wrong. I was planning to add the references with time as there are many. I work with spatial analysis and planning, these are key issues in topics such as smart cities, transport planning and modelling, etc. The area is underrepresented in Wikipedia with very few planners and planning topics listed, so I decided to create them myself... obviously I did a poor job. Your message is very clear, I can understand what needs to be done and will certainly follow. Let us hope I can save these pages. I had almost 20 names I would like to add and several pages on spatial analysis theory, methods and models. With my best regards, Elisabete

Hi. I hope you don't mind me diving in here on this very reasonable discussion. I submitted both articles for CSD. I added the COI tags after having done a web search on your name plus each of the subject's names. My recommendation is to begin with the sources before anything else, rather than leaving them to later. Considering that when you publish a new article it will be reviewed for whether it has 2 independent reliable sources, a credible claim of significance or importance, or various subject-specific criteria. This can happen from anywhere between seconds after you publish it, to months later. Particularly rigorous vetting is made of biographies of living people, and companies. Thus I recommend you should present it to this review process (publish your new articles) with at least something to address each of these concerns. It is not recommended, but you can accomplish all of this in 2 lines of text and 2 good sources. Given all of this can happen very quickly if you publish your article in "article space", it can be a lot more relaxed if you write your first articles as draft first, working on them for a while in that state, then put them forward for review. That review process will assess them for the criteria outlined above. Wikipedia:How articles are usually written might be worth a read too. -Lopifalko (talk) 07:48, 9 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

>>>>>>Elisabete answer to Lopifalko: many, many thanks, I think this is very helpful. I will follow your guidance. I started to list references. Today I will make sure that I take time and make sure I have done this. With my best regards and many thanks for this good help. Elisabete

The "criteria for speedy deletion" (CSD) process is usually very quick, so I would expect your Keith Clarke article to be deleted by an administrator at any minute. It has existed for many hours with WP:COPYVIO text in it. If you simply remove all the copyrighted text, yet leave something that describes the subject, then I will remove the application for CSD. Please note that, having done that, if you still haven't added sources then I will put a notice up complaining about that. However, don't panic, in this instance you have a week to provide them, and I can again take that notice down if you provide sources within that time frame. Thanks. -Lopifalko (talk) 08:09, 9 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Zenia Kotval edit

The article Zenia Kotval has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this biography of a living person will be deleted after seven days unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp/dated}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within seven days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. Lopifalko (talk) 07:35, 9 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

>>>>Hi I am learning this process and is taking me a bit more time, but I think I start tounderstand what is needed. I already added references to Prof.Kotval and will do the same for Prof. Clarke. Many thanks for all the help. Best regards, Elisabete

Hi Elisabete — I added a few references (and made some other small edits) to this article, and Lopifalko has now kindly removed the PROD tag (as well as the COI one), so the article should be safe for now. :) It seems your other article was meanwhile deleted, unfortunately, but I'm hoping you now have a better feel for the process and can at least proceed with your other planned articles.
BTW, I wanted to add a link to Kotval's profile on Researchgate, but I can't figure out her RG ID; if you know this, let's add it to the article. Best, -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 11:53, 9 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
Hi DoubleGrazing - many thanks for all your help. I had to be away from my computer, could only do some of the work on the Kotval page but had no time to work on the Clarke page before I went and sadly it was removed. Do you think I still can create another one for Clarke or is now impossible? This guy ir really top, top on cartography and urban models.
Re:Kotval page, many thanks. I will see if I can find the GR ID.
Many thanks for taking your time with this and for all the help and guidance that you and Lopifalko gave it is really , With all best wishes, Elisabete
I'm no expert, but I don't know of a reason why another article couldn't be created for Clarke, as long as it complies with all the key policies and guidelines, and especially the one that the first attempt was found in violation of, ie. copying from other sources. That said, there may well be some rule preventing you in particular re-creating the article, but again I don't know — perhaps Lopifalko can advise, or else you may find some guidance in WP:COPYVIO. If it turns out that re-creating is possible, but you're unable do it yourself, then you can request this to be done, or you can drop me a message and I will try to start you off with a short stub at least. (There may (?) even be a way of rolling back the deletion, but I don't know for sure, or how that would work.)
PS: As you can see, I've taken the liberty of joining your comments to the previous, by prefacing with a colon (:); each additional colon indents the text deeper, and if you wish to add another paragraph at the same level, then you just include the same number of colons as in your previous para. HTH, -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 15:14, 9 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
My preference is that you create it as a draft, and we can advise on your progress. In that case when it seems ready, you're welcome to ask me on my talk page and I can approve it if it's ready for publication (otherwise it can take months to get approval). But failing that, you may be able to just create it again. I'm not sure if a block has been put on recreating the article, I doubt it, as it usually takes some abuse of the process before that is done. There's certainly not been anything put on you individually that would prevent you recreating it; though I would only do so if you have something concrete from the get-go. You could start by letting us know here what independent reliable secondary sources you have with significant coverage of the subject. Remember that these should not be primary sources such as an employer. -Lopifalko (talk) 15:59, 9 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

>>>>Hi Lopifalko and DoubleGrazing, many thanks for all your help. I am just seeing these messages. I can only do this Wikipedia pages intermittently and need to stay away from my computer or doing other work. After posting the messages I notice that a message box had appeared next to Clarke empty page, it stated that "•Before creating an article, please read Wikipedia:Your first article. We recommend that new editors use the Article wizard". I did that following the page of Kotval. I produced and submitted the following draft to be reviewed as they suggested: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Elisabete_A_Silva/Keith_Clarke What do you think? I tried to add the 'categories' as suggested by Lopifalko bur for some reason it didn't seem to work with me, maybe tomorrow I will try again. Many thanks for taking the time to help me. It would be great if this time it would work. With best regards, Elisabete

July 2020 edit

Hello, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. This is just a note to let you know that I've moved the draft that you were working on to Draft:Keith C. Clarke, from its old location at User:Elisabete A Silva/Keith Clarke. This has been done because the Draft namespace is the preferred location for Articles for Creation submissions. Please feel free to continue to work on it there. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to ask me on my talk page. Thank you. - RichT|C|E-Mail 19:47, 9 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

>>>> Elisabete reply to Rich Smith: Hello, many thanks for moving the page and for your support. I will be able to do a bit more work on the page by tomorrow morning. Lopifalko and DoubleGrazing helped me a lot and were very patient. I learned a lot, I am thankful to them and now to you for this offer. Hopefully in a couple of months I will be more proficient, but for now I suspect I will still have questions and will do as you suggest. With best regards, Elisabete

>>>>>Elisabete: Hi many thanks for it, I just replied I also got a message in my email stating that you had done so. I will be able to add it tonight after 6pm

@Elisabete A Silva: A few of hints for you:
  1. When replying, you do not need to put '>>>>>Elisabete' before. However, use 4 tildes (~~~~) to sign your message at the end.
  2. If you are replying to someone, please use the 're' template like this: {{re|Rich Smith}} (Replacing my name with the username you are replying to), which will send a notification to the other Wikipedian that you have replied. You can use this anywhere, not just on User Talk pages.
  3. In order to keep conversation flowing in threads, please use : at the start of each line of a reply, adding extra :'s to indent more
So this line is double indented
And this one triple
If you can follow all these when conversing on Wikipedia, it would be a great help to everyone. It also means that User:SineBot doesn't have to moan at you :)
(Note: If you Edit this page to see how I made this message you may see a couple of odd things: the nowiki tag is used to stop automatic things from taking place, so I can put 4 tildes on the page without my signature replacing them. Similarly, the 'Tlx' template allows a user to see the formatting of a template, without the template action taking place.)
Hope this helps, happy editing

{{re|Rich Smith}} Many thanks for your help:
I will follow your guidance in this reply
It is important to be clear in the answers so that people understand. I realized I wasn't doing it well, but couldn't see the logic used and was rushing around, couldn't focus a bit more on this issue - the pages seemed to be scheduled for deletion at such a fast rate that I had to focus in answering to the questions/issues and just hoped that it would help. The last time I coded was a million years ago and even my work page is so friendly now that I don't need to do basic html...so I forgot how to do it
It is ok for SineBot to moan, as long as he produces a reason to moan and guidance on how to avoid the mistake :) I am patient/like those people (I would obviously prefer a more proactive practice, such as yours). I don't understand people that moan without a reason and, given they know more than me, I don't understand the moaning without help. It is not very pedagogical, and, if the first human being had moaned forever without a reason or without finding solutions, we wouldn't have evolved to what we are today
I will copy/past your guidance to a word file and will print it...to make sure I don't forget it
Sincere thanks and appreciation for all the guidance you gave with the html and also with the articles

{{re|Lopifalko}} This is wonderful news, many thanks:
Can I ask a quick question regarding how to Acknowledge the people that helped with the article - I would like to add an 'Acknowledgments' section at the end of the page (maybe after the references?), would this be ok?
If it is possible to add the acknowledgments section in this article, I will include people like you, and RichSmith, and DGG, etc that helped improving it: do I need to contact each of you to ask for authorization to mention your names? and if so some of you have real names (should I include the real names, the user page name, or both?),
This question is also important because I was offered help in the future to help me with the research for the content of the articles I plan to build (that at times can be a bit time consuming and requires immediate replies), I would like to Acknowledge the names of that people too that helped me doing the research, would that be ok?
