Copying within Wikipedia requires attribution edit
Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from TV Parental Guidelines into Television content rating system. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution
. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. Please provide attribution for this duplication if it has not already been supplied by another editor, and if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, you should provide attribution for that also. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. — Diannaa (talk) 14:43, 23 August 2023 (UTC)
- Hi,
- The page I edited already attributed to the page I copied from. The page I copied from had just been edited since the last time someone had updated the page I edited. I was only bringing it back up to date, which I did say in the edit summary.
- Unless you mean to say that I needed to double-attribute it? EliotWL (talk) 14:56, 23 August 2023 (UTC)
- I'm not seeing any edit summary at Television content rating system that indicates content was copied from TV Parental Guidelines. — Diannaa (talk) 16:16, 23 August 2023 (UTC)
- Ah looks like I misread a previous edit from 2011. Someone had removed the section for being too similar to the main article and linked to it, and almost immediately the text got re-added. When I made my edit, I thought it was already attributed and it had been so similar that I didn't double check, and just said I was updating to keep it in line with the main article instead of re-linking to it EliotWL (talk) 22:07, 24 August 2023 (UTC)
