Possible COI edit

i would like to please discuss with someone my desire to edit a page despite a possible conflict of interest. i don't intend to do anything other than add accurate information to the page as well as a brief history. i'm under the impression that this is sometimes allowed as long as the editor is above-board about the thing from the start and done while consulting a superior. thanks! 17:45, 6 October 2011 (UTC)

Read Wikipedia:Conflict of interest and Wikipedia:Best practices for editors with conflicts of interest. In summary: for any but absolutely uncontroversial changes, you should suggest your proposed changes on the article talk page rather than make them directly, declaring your interest, and let uninvolved users decide. Take great care not to be in any way promotional - people with a COI often seem to find this very difficult. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 18:01, 6 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Managing a conflict of interest edit

  Hello, Eliasisquith. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the page Vera Institute of Justice, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Also please note that editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. MarioGom (talk) 21:23, 15 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
