Mahinda Rajapaksa
editYou need to discuss your section on the talk page. It seems like some of the links are just general complaints about the government and not Rajapaksa specific. If you insist on simply pasting your section back in without any discussion at all, that may be considered vandalism. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 04:36, 3 October 2006 (UTC)
- At least we are agreement that some of the complaints are simply Sri Lanka-specific and don't mention Rajapaksa by name. Simply being the head of the government alone doesn't mean that every abuse belongs on his article. Information like that belongs at Human rights in Sri Lanka (which really really could be expanded based on what you showed me). Frankly, I'm sure that there's more on Rajapaksa out there but the links (and the criticism) need to be specific. If you could find articles about an increase in human rights abuses (while we said it, technically we don't have a source for that statement) during his administration, which would probably have examples, that would be best. Tell you what, expand the Human rights article a bunch and put a link under the "See also" section of the Rajapaksa article and I think we'll all be happy. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 05:12, 3 October 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for pointing out the holes/cleaning up the human rights section. These articles really need constructive criticisms from neutral observers from time to time and unfortunately due to these revert wars, all of this gets lost in emotion. Where there is smoke there is a fire and so I'll certainly try to get the sources pinned down regarding significant increase in human rights abuses etc and where it links Rajapakse directly. That shouldn't be too hard to find, but I'll certainly look into it and move whatever else to the separate human rights section. I am agreeble to your suggestion of having a link to see also section. Elalan 05:26, 3 October 2006 (UTC)
- No problem. The best article was the ones with specific pointed criticism which cannot be defended. While it may feel better to simply say "there have been more human rights abuses", it's best to be specific. For example, look at contaminated haemophilia blood products, which took me almost a week to find the best sources to build from. There were a ton more vague allegations out there but I just the strongest language which will make it difficult for someone to argue with. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 06:01, 3 October 2006 (UTC)
Velupillai Prabhakaran
editHi Elalan, Thanks for your stance on that article. I would, however, need a joint effort to get this cleaned up and also protected. Please leave me a message when you are free. Thanks. User:Sudharsansn
- Sure Elalan, I would chart out one soon. Basically the plan is to get both sides, the SL govt's stance and also the views of all neutral and pro-VP bodies like the Canadian media and the views of the Tamil Diaspora which can be cited with evidence. Accounts of the Eelam people can also be quoted. Sudharsansn 00:41, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
- That sound fair. Elalan 22:41, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
Great Elalan, I would go thro it again and put appropriate citation tags, just a revision. Pls do go through my reply in the talk page. Thanks Sudharsansn 22:01, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
Edit done
editI have done some work on this article and all claims made are explicitly verifiable from all the information, taken even from the Sri Lankan media and also the international media to ensure a NPOV. The issuing of death warrants, the thileepan incident, the alfred duraiappah incident are all cited with background information and some hearsay remarks about his family have also been added with citation tags clearly. Let me know what you think about this version, we can refine it.
Sudharsansn 16:57, 7 October 2006 (UTC)
Revamp completed
editThis article as of now, is almost completely revamped with regard to completely cited information about VP in a NPOV and all evidence is verifiable as stated - SL media, Indian media and the international media. Complete rework has been done on this article. Please read through it again, with all the exact citations and references provided and also some redundant sections trimmed down.
As of now this article, IMHO, seems to be perfectly NPOV - his murders, assasinations are also cited with evidence and so are his achievements as a military leader, both sides are portrayed equally - This should be fine enough for the reader to make a good, informed decision about VP.
Let me know your opinions. Please read through it again if any fine-tuning is required. VP Talk page

editElalan, could you pls leave some comments on the talk page about the VP article. I am considering to get the tags removed and also protect it with Ricky's help so that we can relax for some time on this page. Thanks a lot for your support and help. Looking fwd to cooperate more on the SL crisis project. :-) Sudharsansn 08:52, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

- I am checking it up with an admin and will revert back to you shortly. I can understand the strategic importance that the Sinhala Mafia gain by vandalizing Tamilnet, make it sound like another unverifiable evidence. You work on Tamilnet and I work on VP for some time. Re:WikiProject NCSLC
edit- Thanks for the invite, I have added myself to the Wikiproject. I will try and give you guys suggestions to keep articles relating to the Sri Lanka conflict neutral. The first step (and most important) in that direction would be to remove the "terrorist" tag that certain users have attached to the LTTE, since only 28 of the 161 UN nations have declared the LTTE "terrorist", and the UN itself has not done so. For Wikipedia to call an organisation (which many consider a freedom movement) "terrorist", based on what only a handful of countries have to say, would be biased. The same logic applies to the actions taken by the LTTE. If assassinating eneny generals is "terrorism" so is the ethnic cleansing of Tamils. I look forward to working together on this Wikiproject and hope that we can prevent Wikipedia from being used as a propaganda tool by vested interest groups. Cheers! Sri Lanka Army Citations
editYou are most welcome! I have been spending countless sleepless hours to complete the reference sections. I think it is quite a good idea to fill up the references of articles related to Sri Lanka. If you come across such citation problems again, would you mind letting me know about it first before you do the fact tagging? Because I'm interested in looking for the proper references regarding any article. Thank you in advance. Lahiru_k 04:18, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
Regarding the invitation to join WikiProject NCSLC.
editThat's very thoughtful on your part but no thank you I'm afraid. I'm always ready to render my service regarding this as a Sri Lankan, but I would always prefer doing things in the way I have always used to. By the way, I would also like to mention that there is no such ETHNIC CONFLICT in Sri Lanka but sheer TERRORISM. According to the newest statistical data, the majority of the Colombo city comprises Muslims followed by Tamils and Sinhalese respectively. If there was such an ethnic conflict in Sri Lanka do you think this situation could be possible in a southern area like this which is also the Commercial Capital of the country? If you do not mind, please remind this to Tamil Selvam as well before the peace talks. Anyway, I appreciate your invitation to join the project and thanks once again. Desperately Need help on blanking and POV editing of Tamilnet by User:snowolfd4
editI have been making some edits to Tamilnet which have been repeatedly reverted with POV and propaganda from the ministry of Defence, Sri Lanka without any qualifications of the text by user User:Snowolfd4. I have added a list of justifications for my changes. But this user has never bothered to answer them and gone ahead given very terse statements for his reverts. This is pretty much vandalism. I have in turn added citations from a reputable source, namely a journal article on Tamilnet.com by Whitaker, Mark P. "Tamilnet.com: Some Reflections on Popular Anthropology, Nationalism, and the Internet" Anthropological Quarterly - Volume 77, Number 3, Summer 2004, pp. 469-498 George Washington University Institute for Ethnographic Research. He has reverted my citations claiming in effect that this peer-reviewed scholarly journal article is the following:
According to Official WP policy Personal websites, blogs, and other self-published or vanity publications should not be used as secondary sources. That is, they should not be used as sources of information about a person or topic other than the owner of the website, or author of the book. The reason personal websites are not used as secondary sources — and as primary sources only with great caution and not as a sole source if the subject is controversial — is that they are usually created by unknown individuals who have no one checking their work. They may be uninformed, misled, pushing an agenda, sloppy, relying on rumor and suspicion, or even insane; or they may be intelligent, careful people sharing their knowledge with the world. Only with independent verification by other sources not holding the same POV is it possible to determine the difference.
He has claimed pretty much all the sources, including the journal article not to be a reliable source, with very very dubious edit summaries. I desperately need administrator intervention on this. This is getting to be very frustrating when a user claims that a peer-reviewed scholarly journal article is an unreliable source and then goes ahead and blanks legitimate cited contents. He has already been blocked for edit warring before and has a history of POV pushing and blanking. Thanks, Elalan 21:28, 22 October 2006 (UTC)

Massacre series
editI have been doing a series of articles on massacres of civilians in Sri Lanka pertaining only to Sri Lankan Tamils. I am almost there with some past incidents that need articles such as Mylanthanai massacre and the red linked article on the State terrorism campaign box. Some of the article still need improvement but I am asking your help to properly cite using the Wiki method (rather than what I use) especially for 2006 Mannar massacres as I think it is with the additional help I had in referencing, is almost there. - I think the human rights allegations section from Sri Lanka Army should expand to the Navy and the Air Force as well. I tried to expand the article but it would be better if you could help. Thanks a lot. --∞Sechzehn16Talk∞ 00:15, 10 November 2006 (UTC)
- Sechzehn, on this point I think the stuff related the Sri Lankan airforce and navy should belong in their respective pages. You can perhaps add a link to mention see also under the human rights abuses section. In all fairness though, the human rights abuses shouldn't dominate the articles on the navy and airforce. In fact both of these pages require a lot more content and once thats there might be room to insert the human rights abuses section. Elalan 04:09, 10 November 2006 (UTC)

N. Raviraj lesson
editAll what it shows that if we write timely articles on events in Sri Lanka, if they are grave enough under the circumstances, it will get highlighted. Vaharai bombing, Kethesh murder, Trincomalee suicide attack, and Chencholai orphanage attack all these should have made the main page but they did'nt but if they had it would have increased the awareness about Sri Lankan issues along with Iraq, Sudan and Israel and it can only make our life easy about editing controversial subjects because there will be more oversight. I hope the LTTE and GoSL will not give us the opportunity in the future but I have my doubts RaveenS 13:23, 13 November 2006 (UTC)

Template issue
editThanks for your support. I have my doubts as to whether it will survive. Because I myself had the doubt whether it is neutral or not. But I am in Wikipedia for the lon haul not to go away tomorrow. We can learn from the set back if here are any. Nevertheless what we need is to improve the Human Rights in Sri Lanka article in a balanced manner then create a template linking Human Rights in Sri Lanka and State terrorism in Sri Lanka. I am looking for a good example so that the template can be not too big, kind of foldable for each category and will survive an AFD. If you see and as a prototype, let me know. Thanks RaveenS 16:44, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
TfD tag
editCan you explain your removal of the deletion tag from Template:Campaignbox State terrorism in Sri Lanka, here? I don't see discussion on that page or at the Templates for Deletion page supporting the removal of the tag. I don't have an opinion on the issue itself (I have not voted in the discussion or edited the template) but I'm curious to know the reason for the removal. Generally speaking, deletion tags should only be removed after the discussion is closed. Kafziel Talk 20:26, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

editI know TFD and AFD do sometimes take a lot of emotional effort specially when you treading on new waters in Wikipedia such as State terrorism. Any way what I wanted to share with you before I leave for the day is that after this TFD and ii it fails to stay then what we need is a Template called Human Rights in Sri Lanka. Chemmani mass graves
editHi Elalan. Just wanted to say how great you and a few other users have been on this encyclopaedia. Well done. At a time when open patrons and apologists of the Sinhala government's terrorist onslaught against the Tamils over the last 50 years louden their bark, and continue to attempt to rewrite history - its refreshing to know there are people who are willing to set the record straight. Anyways, I've been looking for an article on the Chemmani Mass graves, you know the one in Jaffna where between 400 - 600 Tamil civilians were buried in a mass grave by the Sri Lankan army - the one which Amnesty was appalled by and demanded an investigation into, the one that typically wasn't investigated.
