Speedy deletion nomination of User:Elainem2

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on User:Elainem2, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. WuhWuzDat 15:24, 19 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

What am I doing wrong?

edit

I have posted two reformatted articles and they keep getting nominated for speedy deletion. I have followed the guidelines and the article is similar to other articles in this category. Please help. Thank you. Elainem2 (talk) 17:46, 21 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Your article

edit

Your user page is not the place to make draft articles; it is intended, if you like, to say a little about yourself to help communication with other volunteers about the project of building an encyclopedia - see Wikipedia:User pages. It is not for extended material unconnected with the project. Editnotices are not the right place either

I have moved your draft article to a user sub-page at User:Elainem2/Timothy Corrigan (interior designer). When it is ready for the main encyclopedia, it should be moved to Timothy Corrigan (interior designer) as there is another article about someone with the same name.

The only problem is that the first paragraph is too promotional. Wikipedia is extremely resistant to being used for promotion, and "known for his ability to create a world of European elegance infused with California comfortable" is PR-speak, unsuitable for an encyclopedia article, which requires a neutral point of view. When writing a Wikipedia article, you should imagine a hostile critic looking over your shoulder say, at each glowing adjective, "Who says so? Can you prove it from a reliable independent source?" See WP:PEACOCK, and the policy on WP:Verifiability which "requires that all quotations and any material challenged or likely to be challenged be attributed to a reliable, published source in the form of an inline citation, and that the source directly support the material in question." The reader should have no idea whether the writer approved or disapproved of the subject. Contributors used to writing PR pieces often find this a hard idea to grasp, but it is essential.

The second paragraph with all the references is fine, provided they all really do mention him - I have not checked. See WP:CITE for how to arrange a reference list.

When you are ready, you can ask for comment at WP:Requests for feedback.

Hello, Elainem2. You have new messages at Feezo's talk page.

Please note under Category:American Interior Designers Timothy Corrigan (interior designer) is listed under "A" rather than "C". Also his talk page is listed as well. Can you please make this correction? Thank you. Elainem2 (talk) 14:07, 8 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
