I am not new to Wickipedia but my user ID is a new one because I forgot my old user ID. I could not find a way to get the site to send me a reminder of what my old ID was. I have edited several times but edits should be discussed first with the previous editor if they are substantive. Eighthcreek (talk) 14:17, 30 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Welcome back! The issue with your edits to Gold prospecting that I reverted, and Gold mining that another editor independently reverted with similar comments, was that they 1. Moved the body of the articles toward the hobby activity, which is a small part of the global scope; a separate section within the article on hobby activity might be more appropriate; and 2. were not referenced, see Wikipedia:Verifiability. On my qualifications, please see Wikipedia:Ownership. On your lost work, all edits and edit summaries are permanently retained in the article's History page. Happy editing! {{helpme}} edit

The editor named Chuckiesdad did not follow the official rules when he deleted all my work on the subject of gold prospecting. He did not attempt to reach concensus nor use the talk feature first to discuss this with me. How can I get my editing back on the page to appear there permanently? Eighthcreek (talk) 22:24, 30 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

There is no way to get your edits up permanently. Right below the edit box, there is a statement that says "If you don't want your writing to be edited mercilessly or redistributed for profit by others, do not submit it." You do not own articles, this is a wiki. As for his revert, please see his explanation above. Xclamation point 22:39, 30 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for responding. I do get a kick out of you both telling me I should not think of myself as the owner of an article when that is exactly what Chuckiesdad has done is take ownership of it and make important edit deletions without following the rules, discussing it with me first, and reaching concensus. What keeps me from going to all his edits and reverting some of them because I have a different opinion about them? His reasons for reverting are strictly and only his opinions. New article: Recreational gold mining edit

I have taken most of the section on recreational gold prospecting/mining from the article Gold prospecting, and put it in a separate article, Recreational gold mining. There is a lot of room for expansion in this article. For one thing, it says nothing about equipment and methods. Because this appears to be an interest of yours, I hope that you will contribute to expanding the article into something that other hobbyists will find useful.
