November 2006 edit

Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did in Credit card. Wikipedia is not a mere directory of links nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that exist to attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam policies for further explanations of links that are considered appropriate. If you feel the link should be added to the article, then please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. See the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you. ~a (usertalkcontribs) 13:14, 2 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Please stop adding inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did in Fair Credit Reporting Act. It is considered spamming, and Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising. Thanks. ~a (usertalkcontribs) 13:14, 2 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

How do you figure that is spamming? That site is not trying to sell anything and does not have any affiliate links. It's a simple, quick guide for young people, to help them find a way to start earning credit. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Egonitron (talkcontribs) .

No, that site does have affiliate links: "Finally, take a look at the links on the left side of the page under 'More Links.' Every time you view this page, you will see different links there, and they should all be very helpful." To better answer your questions, check out WP:EL#Links_normally_to_be_avoided. Your links violate almost all of the categories under "Links to normally be avoided". ~a (usertalkcontribs) 22:03, 2 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

OK, I see what you are saying, but those are just Google Adsense ads. It says "Finally, take a look at the links on the left side of the page under 'More Links.' Every time you view this page, you will see different links there, and they should all be very helpful." The reason it says that, is because it's true. Google scans the keywords and content of the sites that it is on, as I'm sure you know. The ads are made to be relevant and helpful. This is not a business trying to sell anything, just a guide. Are you saying that Wikipedia doesn't link to sites that have Adsense on them? Because that's all this is. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Egonitron (talkcontribs) .

Wikipedia does, sometimes, link to sites that have adsense on them. I didn't say otherwise. However, I did say that you should read WP:EL#Links_normally_to_be_avoided. I especially suggest you read #1. #2 and #3 are also important in my opinion. ~a (usertalkcontribs) 04:04, 3 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
