Gildo Pallanca Pastor page

Hello,

My edit on Gildo Pallanca Pastor was reverted because you think that it was "poorly cited and/or promotional". Can you please explain why and provide examples? All the changes I made are accurate and up-to-date.

Thank you

Fresenius (company)

Hi I've corrected the Grammar on Fresenius (company), having no space between the hyphen and the word is incorrect. There must be a space between them or no hyphen, which was my first edit which you undid.

Regards Devokewater (talk) 13:36, 14 May 2020 (UTC)

You've changed again to incorrect Grammar.

Devokewater (talk) 15:34, 14 May 2020 (UTC)

Thank you for your message, Devokewater, and sorry for undoing your first edit. To me, "U.S.-based" looked worse than "U.S. based". I have now changed it to "US-based", which I hope will keep everyone happy. See MOS:US and MOS:HYPHEN for more. Edwardx (talk) 15:35, 14 May 2020 (UTC)
OK, thanks Devokewater (talk) 15:39, 14 May 2020 (UTC)
No problem, Devokewater. Wikipedia has endless policies and guidelines, and when it comes to grammar issues, just about everything has been discussed in exhaustive detail. Edwardx (talk) 15:43, 14 May 2020 (UTC)

Overdue QPQs

Edwardx, while it's great that you are continuing to write articles and submitting them to DYK, you currently have three older nominations that are still waiting for QPQ reviews, from April 11, 19, and 26. It feels like I have to regularly remind you of missing QPQs, and that's not something either of us wants, really. QPQ is a necessary part of of DYK, and I'd appreciate it if you would take responsibility for promptly doing your own. I realize that not everyone has time to do the QPQ prior to nominating, but it shouldn't take more than seven days to supply a missing QPQ.

There have been complaints at the DYK talk page about nominations stretching out for a long time, and this is one reason for it. DYK used to be stricter about how long was allowed for lack of response before nominations were closed as unsuccessful, and I think you'll see fewer tacit extensions given in future. Thanks for taking care of these QPQs. BlueMoonset (talk) 23:41, 15 May 2020 (UTC)

Thank you, BlueMoonset. Your tact and diplomacy are much appreciated. One QPQ done yesterday. Hope to do the other two today. Edwardx (talk) 10:50, 20 May 2020 (UTC)
Other two now done. All up-to-date. Will endeavour to "bank" a QPQ in advance of my next DYK nom. Edwardx (talk) 13:43, 21 May 2020 (UTC)

The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/São Schlumberger. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, São Schlumberger), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Speedy deletion nomination of Category:Kazakhstani mining businesspeople

A tag has been placed on Category:Kazakhstani mining businesspeople requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Liz Read! Talk! 14:36, 27 May 2020 (UTC)

Christine Holgate Article

Hi, @Edwardx:. I am new to the Wikipedia world. I am working on the article as part of my unit of study. Thank you for helping me fix my errors. Do you how to reference information in the infobox? Thank you! Quinndo (talk) 13:49, 26 May 2020 (UTC)

Quinndo Very few were really errors, merely opportunities for minor stylistic improvement. Writing biographies of business people is tricky as the sources tend to talk up the person, and we need to rephrase things such that they comply with Wikipedia:Neutral point of view. As for Christine Holgate, there is generally no need to reference anything in the infobox (or the article lead), as long as it is mentioned and cited elsewhere in the article. The infobox and the lead are intended to summarise content found elsewhere in the article. Keep up the good work! I learn new things about Wikipedia editing every day. Edwardx (talk) 20:34, 27 May 2020 (UTC)
@Edwardx: Thank you! It is really hard to find her year of birth. I found some sources said her birth of year was in December 1963 (http://www.checkcompany.co.uk/director/3149496/CHRISTINE-WENDY-HOLGATE) but no quality source confirmed this information. Based on information "Christine Holgate was 54 in October 2018" (https://www.afr.com/work-and-careers/management/australia-posts-christine-holgate-is-on-a-mission-to-win-back-trust-20180911-h1584v) and simple calculation, I could confirm this information. Should I include this information and how should I reference it? Thank you!Quinndo (talk) 04:27, 28 May 2020 (UTC)
Quinndo Good question. This is a perennial problem with business bios, and other people who are not very prominent. We must follow Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons, and in this case particularly the section WP:BLPPRIMARY. So, a site like checkcompany.co.uk would be considered by many/most editors to be primary. It is most likely scrapped from old data produced by Companies House and their website, Search the register. As you can see, their are several Christine Holgates, and none are likely to be "ours", as there is nothing in her article to suggest that she has ever been a company director in the UK. AFR meets our Wikipedia:Reliable sources criteria. A good resource for this is Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Perennial sources. If you are unsure, you can ask at Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Noticeboard, BUT do search the very extensive archives first (link to the right of "Contents"), as many sources have already been discussed.
For the "birth_date" field in her infobox we would use the {{birth based on age as of date |yy|yyyy|mm|dd}} template to show that she was 54 on 11 October 2018. Of course, it is very likely that AFR have based that on primary sources, perhaps using the Australian equivalent of the UK's Companies House data. AFR is fine for our purposes. Wikipedia is essentially a tertiary source summarising information published in reliable secondary sources (such as AFR). And coming back to an earlier question, this is something for which a reference in the infobox would be appropriate. Edwardx (talk) 10:38, 28 May 2020 (UTC)
Thank you @Edwards:. I am also working on her views towards Women and the Asian market. However, I am just worried that my style of writing will potentially violate WP:NPOV. Do you know where I could upload the work and get checked without publishing? Thank youQuinndo (talk) 11:09, 28 May 2020 (UTC)
If no article yet existed, one could start Draft:Christine Holgate. The alternative would be to suggest changes on the talkpage, which would be best practice if one was a paid or COI editor, but this can otherwise be quite cumbersome. Your NPOV concern is valid. It is difficult to write good bios of businesspeople without slipping into PR-speak, as that is what happens all too often even in reliable sources. Do your best, encourage other more experienced editors to tweak your efforts, and try to learn from their changes. The key is to cite everything. Edwardx (talk) 11:49, 28 May 2020 (UTC)

Hi, my name is Lauren with Hertz. I noticed the birth date listed on Paul Stone's page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Stone– “(born 1968/1969)” – does not match the verifiable source provided on the page, The Street: “Stone, 50, has replaced Kathryn V. Mooky Greidinger

Addressing systemic bias on Wikipedia of lack of articles about people named Mooky. Philafrenzy (talk) 21:44, 16 June 2020 (UTC)

Had a looky in a booky (okay, a few webpages) about Mooky. Much expanded. Perhaps a hook about building the world's largest cinema chain. Edwardx (talk) 13:00, 17 June 2020 (UTC)
His board is worth looking into. I suspect some wealthy families. Philafrenzy (talk) 17:25, 17 June 2020 (UTC)
Had a quick look at all of them, and nothing to suggest any real wealth apart from Greidinger and his brother Israel. Alicja Kornasiewicz, chair since May 2020 already has an article. His mother, Dahlia Greidinger, has an article. His brother might merit one, but I have done this as a redirect to Mooky for now. Edwardx (talk) 18:58, 17 June 2020 (UTC)

My own extensive "research" drew the same conclusion, but Frank beat me to it. Edwardx (talk) 21:45, 17 June 2020 (UTC)

Bourla‎

Hey. I've requested page protection and will report the IP to WP:AIV as soon as they have had sufficient warnings so please give them one when reverting. Also, be careful of 3RR, which is why I stopped. Robvanvee 11:54, 28 June 2020 (UTC)

Thanks, Robvanvee. I will endeavour to leave a warning if and when I revert again. In my experience, this sort of editor usually eventually gives up and goes away, and (on average) reverting them repeatedly is less work than reporting them and posting warnings on their page which they rarely read, and even then, almost always ignore. Perhaps I am too cynical. And as per point 7 of WP:3RRBLP, I would hope that this sort of revert to Bourla would be exempt from the 3RR rule, although I realise that it is a grey area. Edwardx (talk) 12:39, 28 June 2020 (UTC)
Okay, Robvanvee, they have reverted me, but I have reached my 3 in 24 hours limit, so have left them a warning instead. Edwardx (talk) 13:20, 28 June 2020 (UTC)
