Hi, it seems you are rather new to Wikipedia, so I just wanted to let you know about some etiquette considerations. It is generally frowned upon to edit other peoples comments on the talk page of an article. Even if you disagree, let the history of the discussion stand as it is, and add onto that below. I have seen your objections to the proposed merger of 3-187 Inf and 187 Inf, and am more than willing to work with you to reach a good conclusion for both the article and the subject. As such, I will not perform the merger, and there was no need to change my words. Also, as a courtesy to others, please sign your talk posts with ~~~~. RevZoe (talk) 01:40, 12 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thank you. I am sure we will find a good conclusion. Sorry about my bad etiquette too.Edwardhoogland (talk) 15:37, 12 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Its ok. Wikipedia really has its own culture and rules, and it can take some time to get to know them. I really want to encourage you to be bold, and let you feel welcome in Wikipedia in general. I would say, its better to make a change and fix it later, than to wimp out and never make the change at all :) Let me know if you ever need any advice on stuff, if I don't know it (which is usually the case), I know where to look. I'm going to begin adding photos to the article this weekend, but I am interested in how a merge would affect the article as a whole...Could you fill me in please?ESH (talk) 02:22, 16 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Well, the majority of the article for the 3rd battalion is exactly the same as the general one for 187th. So, we would take the unique parts of this one, and place them into the 187th article, then delete the 3rd battalion article. The idea is to reduce all the redundant parts, and keep the important information. Its also important to make sure the information is correct... for instance, the 187th_Infantry_Regiment_(United_States)#World War II states that the 3rd battalion was formed after the battle of Leyte, while 3rd_Battalion,_187th_Infantry_Regiment_(United_States)#World War II states that they earned their first presidential unit citation there. So, we would look at each, check the sources for each, and fold the information from 3rd battalion into 187th inf so that the most correct account stood. On the other hand, the Korean war section in 187 inf obviously has much more detail, so we would simply add the information from 3rd battalion to supplement that. This pattern holds through both articles. They cover exactly the same things, with one or the other having more specific information. So, the goal would simply be to form them together into one article that is more comprehensive and informative. RevZoe (talk) 04:03, 16 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

File permission problem with File:Bucha a.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Bucha a.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. –Drilnoth (T • C • L) 15:26, 26 June 2011 (UTC)Reply
