December 2011 edit

An image or media file,File:Dell XPS 730x Stealth Blue.jpg, has been removed from your userpage, user talk page, or other page because it was licensed as non-free. Wikipedia's non-free policy states that Copyrighted images under fair use are only allowed to be used in articles about the subject of the image, and only if no free equivalent is available. For example they are not allowed to be used on user pages, in lists, or (typically) in biographies of living people. As a result, although users are often given a great amount of latitude in the type of content that is allowed on their user pages, it is requested that you abide by this policy. Feel free, however, to add images and media files licensed under other terms. For more information, see Wikipedia's non-free content policy and an accompanying essay on the removal of non-freeimages. Further use of these images will be considered vandalism, and shall be treated as such. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter. The page it was removed from was User:Eduncan911/Dell XPS 730X. Could you explain why the image was removed? edit

In reference to my unpublished article for:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Eduncan911/Dell_XPS_730X

You removed an image. I thought something was broken, and I added it back. I didn't know you actually removed it so I removed it for now until this is resolved.

But it is unclear why you removed it. I thought I followed all of the guidelines for setting the "Non-free promotional" as well as supplying the "Non-free use rationale" along with it, per Wikipedia's guidelines.

So I am unclear why the image was removed from the article, as I clearly state exactly what the image is used for, specifically for this article in question.

Could you help me out by stating how it violated the use? It was a picture of the product that the article was exactly written for.

Article before Images, Images before Article edit

Needing to submit the page so that I can reference the images I currently have pending, that will be deleted in 4 days if they do not reference a live article. But the article needs images for reference. Therefore, I am submitting the article early so it can be approved. Once approved, I can add the images back.

Previously, the article was edited stating that I could not use the uploaded images in my User Space and the images were "disabled" but being prefixed with a colon ":". The moderator said it can remain this way until the article is published.

I have about 12 more images to add to the page, several approved by Dell. But since the article is not published, the images will be deleted after 7 days because I cannot reference them to my user space. Therefore, I am reframing from uploading additional images until the article is published.

Existing Wikipedia article: Dell XPS edit

The current Wikipedia Article for Dell XPS only has a single paragraph about this product. This new article has much more details.

I plan on linking the original Dell XPS article to this new Dell XPS 730X article.

ESA edit

"The latest official release". You added "official" which hints there are unofficial releases of the specification too. Unless there is an unofficial release, I don't think "official" should be put there, as it can confuse readers. -- Frap (talk) 21:46, 25 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

@Frap There was actually two specifications. Version 1.0 was released, and version 2.0 was "in the works" when NVIDIA abandoned the project (they were the driving force). Verison 2.0 is talked about in the USB-IF specification with "planned for" comments, though I can't recall the exact specifics off hand (something about additional motorized controls and fluid levels). -- eduncan911 (talk) 00:31, 26 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Dell XPS 730x, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page PWM (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

XPS 730X - tRFC and RAM limits edit

Does the memory error always occur when using 12 gigs or more of RAM? I am looking else where online and have not seen anything on this error. I am looking to upgrade my RAM on my 730X and am not sure if I will get that error or not. Is there a way to go into my BIOS and increase my tRFC setting? I really do not want to use the Alienware BIOS for fear it wont be stable. Is an alternative way to increase ram to use 8 gigs in dual channel? Although I may lose performance which I don't want. Finally, are there any screenshots you can post with this error? Thanks,

Overall, can you elaborate on this error in the Wiki post? Will I always get it? Are some types of RAM better to avoid it? Where can I see my tRFC setting?

I also posted this question on the XPS 730X Forum here: http://www.xpsuser.com/discussions/categories/wikipedia-accuracy-on-the-730x-conflicting-information-trfc-and-ram-limit#respond

Thanks for the help and sorry for all the questions!

Replaceable fair use File:Dell XPS 730x Stealth Blue.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:Dell XPS 730x Stealth Blue.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{Di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. – Finnusertop (talkcontribs) 16:16, 5 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Dell XPS 730x Software AlienFX.jpg edit

Thank you for uploading File:Dell XPS 730x Software AlienFX.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. – Finnusertop (talkcontribs) 16:17, 5 January 2018 (UTC)Reply
