Managing a conflict of interest edit

  Hello, EditorAOTB2020. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Pahunkat (talk) 22:14, 15 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

December 2020 edit

  Hello, EditorAOTB2020, welcome to Wikipedia and thank you for your contributions. Your editing pattern indicates that you may be using multiple accounts or coordinating editing with people outside Wikipedia, such as Hunteraquarium (talk · contribs). Our policy on multiple accounts usually does not allow this, and users who misuse multiple accounts may be blocked from editing. If you operate multiple accounts directly or with the help of another person, please disclose these connections. Thank you. Pahunkat (talk) 21:17, 15 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hello, We are attempting to edit this page based on contributions and interviews that are relevant to the page of the subject and have had increased difficulty in doing so. Please help. Thanks, EditorAOTB2020

We are not sure if you are seeing this : Pahunkat, but we have limited knowledge with coding and are relying on the visual editors. Please help us resolve this issue as we are only attempting to make edits to 1 wiki page and this process has been increasingly difficult. -EditorAOTB2020

Hello, thanks for getting back to me - yes, I can see your messages but in future it would be helpful to place the following so I can see that you've tried to contact me {{reply to|Pahunkat}}. Could I please clarify the following to start so I know where to go from here- what is your relationship between you and George Jacob, and who do you mean by 'you' (see notice above). I'm going to revert changes until we can reach a consensus here. Thanks, Pahunkat (talk) 21:38, 15 December 2020 (UTC).Reply

{{reply to|Pahunkat}} Thank you for getting back. <Hopefully this is the correct way to reach/reply to you. We are making edits on our collegue, George's page. We need help to disclose a COI, since aren't sure how to code that are unfamiliar with coding and wiki editing in general. We created an account "Hunteraquarium" as well, to try and troubleshoot the revisions as we were/are still unfamiliar with the process. We are not trying to "spam with youtube links" we simply want to add to the contributions and allow visitors to access his interviews and publications in one place in an easy way. Let us know if you have any more questions.-EditorAOTB2020

Are you being paid to edit? Pahunkat (talk) 21:52, 15 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

{{reply to|Pahunkat}} As employees in the media department our job is to make edits to youtube channels, social media/website platforms and other forms of multimedia such as this.

Per wikipedia's guidelines on paid editing and conflict of interest (I will put a notice which you may find useful above), I'm going to need to ask you to put a paid-contribution disclosure on your user page. To do this you will need to switch to the source editor (You'll get used to it after a while, and it makes it easier to edit). Also it means the 'reply to' template will work since no 'nowiki' tags will be put next to it. See Template:paid. I will try to attend this talk page as much as I can, but soon I'll need to leave so you may find posting {{help me}} (see template:help me) may be useful to get another editor to your attention. Pahunkat (talk) 22:13, 15 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

{{reply to|Pahunkat}} Okay we will do that. Before you leave, can you please ensure the edits remain so we don't need to go through this entire process with someone new? Thank you!-EditorAOTB2020

There are a few policies on COI editing that may need to be explained to you. In a nutshell, you’ll have to request edits on the talk page of the article. I’ll put a help me template here now so another editor can help explain this to you, but I really must go now because it’s almost midnight where I live. Really sorry for the inconvenience, you caught me at the end of my recent changes patrol. Pahunkat (talk) 22:31, 15 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

I can't guarantee that your edits won't be reverted by another editor, anyone can edit this encyclopedia. An editor with a conflict of interest are strongly discouraged from editing articles directly, instead you should use edit requests, I strongly recommend you use the edit request wizard, this is because editors with a conflict of interest may give undue weight or violate Wikipedia's policies or guidelines. Regarding your edits, Wikipedia isn't an indiscriminate collection of links, only relevant links should be included, every single interview or news publications is not needed.
