Draft of WikiProject Philately: Stamp images needed

edit

This is a list of stamps which editors have requested be scanned and uploaded for use in specific articles. The stamps are listed by country and Scott catalogue number, and should assumed to be requested in unused condition. If you can scan any of these stamps, please follow the following procedure:

  • First, make a scan of the stamp and save it to your harddrive.
  • There should be a narrow black background around the stamp (unless a light background is required for contrast).
  • Use a reasonably high quality scan, at least 1200 dpi. The total image should not exceed 5 mb.
  • Then, upload the image [here]
Note, if the stamp is fully PD worldwide, upload it directly to Commons here.
  • It is suggested to name the image using the country and Scott catalog number, e.g., Italy124.jpg
  • Add the appropriate public domain tags. Several common tags are as follows:

{{PD-stamp}} — for postage stamps known to be in the public domain for whatever reason, such as age, or because the issuing authority explicitly puts stamps in the public domain (all US stamps before 1978, or UK and former colonies more than 50 years old).

{{PD-US-1923-abroad}} - for images first published outside of the U.S. before 1923.

Information on copyright status of stamps from many countries and specific PD tags may be found here.

  • If none of the public domain tags are appropriate, contact the editor who listed the stamp (on his talk page) and ask if he can supply a fair use explanation for the upload (which can never be to Commons).
  • After the image is uploaded, add a link to the image next to the stamp on this page, and Thanks!
