Declining speedy deletions

I'm a little confused why you, as a non-admin, are declining speedy deletions. The article I tagged as A7, Atsuko Kawada, makes no claim of notability and simply states "X is an actress". In the future, please allow an admin to do the job if you are not going to do it correctly. I've now prodded the article, which is an utter waste of time. XRK (talk) 15:41, 4 July 2008 (UTC)

Whenever you remove a speedy template (which I do sometimes myself) it would be a good idea if you worked to improve the article to make it clear that it does not fall under the speedy deletion criteria. No, removing speedy delete tag is the same as a normal deletion tag. it is normally subject to review of an admin. Wikipedia:SPEEDY#Procedure_for_administrators. As for non admin closure, it does not apply here since there is no unanimous position. Assistance Needed with "Gabriel Murphy" Article

I see you are an objective Wikipedian who regularly reviews AfD candidates. I am requesting you review the article Gabriel Murphy and cast your vote on whether this article meets the notability standard. This article was userfied where it was re-written and brought up on deletion review Wikipedia:Deletion review/Log/2008 June 28 and the concensus was to keep and move into mainspace by a vote of 3-0.

Now the same user (Wolfkeeper who had AdFed the article on two prior occassions did the same here the very next day after it was moved into the mainspace by a Wiki administrator via the consensus to keep via the deletion review process. If you can take some time to review the Gabriel Murphy article and cast you vote on the current AfD as to whether you think it meets the notability standard and should be kept I would appreciate it. Private equity articles

Eastmain --

Can you help out with an issue that just popped up. I have been working on several articles over the last day or so as part of the Private equity task force and encountered a couple of speedy deletes -- one you just noted for Berkshire Partners. I just noted that J.W. Childs Associates had been deleted due to alleged "copyright" issues however that article was written based on several different sources and very little content came from the company's website, most came from refernced articles. If you can help restore the article, I would be happy to work through specific issues. It would be unfortunate if I had to use my last locally saved version and start again.

Also, the same editor tagged JLL Partners on the same basis as Berkshire Partners. I don't think that any of these articles are particularly biased or promotional in nature. In fact most of the JLL article is about issues that the firm has faced and spends time discussing the mixed results of the investment funds. Not exactly the best promotional material.

Thanks on JLL Partners -- any chance you can help out with the deletion of J.W. Childs Associates or do I really need to go to a deletion review? After a few back and forths with the admin who deleted, the objection stems to some very generic material that appears in numerous places but would hardly qualify as "copyright infringement" and certainly not to the point to delete the entire article (i.e., there is perhaps one sentence in the entire article that includes "objectionable text".

I've put the speedy tag back. WP:Cricket has come up with a description of what the WP:Athlete criteria mean in the context of cricket. This can be found at WP:CRIN. Essentially, for a player from the modern-era, to be considered notable, they should have played a first-class, List A or official Twenty20 match. Jalat Khan, as can be seen from the reference provided in the article, has played none of these forms of the game, therefore is not notable, despite playing for a national side. Thanks for the answer and the link to the Dutch thingie. This site's help area is so confusing with so many pages with miles of text that make little to no sense to me. I get a sign the article is orphanaged and needs references on other pages, so I do one or two, and I get a message I'm spamming. I put the article up and someone starts screaming it needs to be deleted cos they think it looks more like an add. Instead of offering to help me to rewrite it, tell me at least why they think so or sending me a message beforehand. I am a writer, I am a poet, it's hard for me to 'write without feeling'. I am not a neutral person by nature. At all. If I like something I can get so thankful for it existing I hardly know where to put myself anymore. It's being an HSP and an artist, and I get easily on overload. I have tried to work through the info pages, but my mind gets into a knot. It's too much text in one place without simple examples. I'm a practical learner, I need to 'see' in order to understand. This Wikicode is completely new and confusing to me. I understand CSS and HTML, but this is algebra to my brain. So I used a template from an existing page on wikipedia and still they tell me I did it wrong. While in a way that way it was practically the same. I'm so confused. I saw something in a page about not biting the newcomers. I don't feel bitten, I feel as if I've been hit by a truck. I should be packing for my 6 week trip at the moment, my head is running over, I'm already on panic attack meds so I need to take it easy, but instead I feel as if I'm having to fight a battle on here. So anyway, I am thankful for your help with the proper categories (think that was you too?) and the added references. Modern Dance

I am hoping to include more entries on modern dance artists. MOST OF THE WORLD DOES NOT KNOW WHAT IT IS even though it is 100 years old. Thank you for helping me with the Marion Rice entry. I have added more entries!

The truth is, Modern Dance has been widely misunderstood. In fact, even the name is now kind of obsolete! When Modern dance began to emerge, well, it was pretty modern. But that was around 1900, making Modern Dance's foundation over a hundred years old! Shouldn't we call it something else now? Well, we can certainly see how the name "Modern Dance" only adds to the confusion.

Around 1900, the dance scene had gotten fairly stale. Romantic Ballets were just about the only things being performed, but the peak of their popularity had been some 60 years earlier. At that time, a young woman named Isadora Duncan decided there must be another way to move; ballet was too artificial. So modern dance arrived as a rebellion to ballet.

Isadora took her ideas from Greek statues and art; also drawing much of her inspiration from the music. Instead of the romantic tutus, audiences of Isadora Duncan would have seen a woman clad in long, flowing tunics and bare feet, the sight of which shocked many theatergoers. Isadora danced on a carpet, which travelled with her – perhaps to make her footfalls silent or provide a softer landing. Her dances consisted of simple phrases of movement... skips, walks and leaps, all very eloquent, the use of gestures... she would frequently end a dance with one arm drifting skyward. In any case, for an audience used to romantic ballet, Isadora Duncan was highly unusual.

Nearly at the same time, another dancer was thinking many of the same thoughts about conventional ballet. Her name was Ruth St. Denis. Interested in performing "non-balletic" dance, St. Denis sought to find inspiration from the Orient and mystical things, and later she used Indian and Hindu images. Like Isadora Duncan, St. Denis had dance reformation on her mind. She and her husband, Ted Shawn, formed a dance school/company. It was called Denishawn (makes sense), and it was perhaps the most important thing to happen to modern dance ever, for two of the students at the school were named Martha Graham, and Doris Humphrey.

By 1930, most people had heard of modern dance, even if they had never seen one. The Indian/Orient themes had been done over and over (not unlike the overwhelming number of romantic ballets that spurred modern dance in the first place!), and some of Denishawn's students sought different ways to express themselves. Forming companies of their own, Graham and Humphrey choreographed dances that were complex and dramatic, showing the audience that dance could convey deep meaning and themes. Both women left Denishawn with a rebellion in mind- - no more fluffy Oriental dances. So here we see, the first rebellion against the rebellion!

Graham's work was especially important to our brief history of modern. You see, she was the first modern pioneer to actually codify her movement- – that is, to have a vocabulary of steps and moves uniquely hers. She also created exercises in class that would reinforce those steps and moves. A Graham class begins on the floor with exercises called "breathings", and moves on to contractions. It is HIGHLY technical work. Anyone who says that modern dance is just "free flowing movement" has never seen Graham work, let alone taken a Graham class.

Incidentally, at the time, there was another form of dance that had a codified set of steps and moves, and exercises that reinforced them. Can you guess? It was ballet. So in fact, Martha Graham was doing something quite similar to the procedure used to train ballet dancers, but don't tell Martha that. The only difference was the vocabulary of steps that were taught. Both forms are equally demanding. Both forms require exactness of movement. Both forms can only really be done well by accomplished dancers.

Like her predecessors, Martha Graham's and Doris Humphrey's companies and schools consisted of dancers who would eventually choose to create their own styles/ syllabi/ companies. If you will, rebellion against the rebellion against the original rebellion. Among them: Merce Cunningham, Erick Hawkins, and Paul Taylor.

At this point, our family tree becomes a bit too diverse to continue without writing an entire book on the subject. We can see how the roots of modern dance started with Isadora Duncan and Ruth St. Denis, continued with the Denishawn school/company, then to Martha Graham and Doris Humphrey, and onward. Each person sought to create movement that was unique and rooted in something other than the existing dance forms. The article I deleted in 2007 was not about the scientist, but was a vanity bio of a modern day teenager and thus has no content of any value to a potential new article worth undeleting. Revolution Money Follow Up Question

First, how do I export the formatting and reference changes from "Revolution Money" to "Revolution money"? Per my previous message, I want to retain the information in the "Revolution money" posting, while making all your appropriate formatting, link, and reference updates on "Revolution Money."

• note also reference and discography → I did, and I did look for more and added the best I could find, but one paragraph in the Dallas Observer is far from significant coverage.

Please do not remove speedy tags from articles, only admins should do this after they have reviewed the article and found that it does not qualify for CSD. 'Possibly notable' is not a reason to remove a speedy tag. Per CSD#A7, the article does not indicate why its subject is notable. My apologies. I was dealing with two brief articles at the same time. Someone else had tagged Adnan Koucher, and I was trying to rescue that article as well. When I saw the A. Traviss Corry article, my first impression was that he was probably notable, and I removed the speedy so that the article would not be deleted while I was locating references and adding them to the article. I see that the article is now at AfD, and I expect that unless some new references from reliable sources are found and added to the article, it will be deleted. Quite often, though, articles on notable topics end up being tagged for speedy deletion because they are weak articles, and when the topic is notable, it is better to improve the article than to delete it, no matter how weak it is at first. --Eastmain (talk) 23:50, 23 July 2008 (UTC)

No worries... But I had already done my homework on this one. The article was originally created a few days ago, and I had moved (userfied) it to User:Atravisscorry after a Google search turned up nothing (nothing notable or verifiable at least). The user then copy/pasted the page back into mainspace today (including the {{userpage}} tag I had placed on it during userfication). That is when I placed the CSD tag on it... As reviewing administrator, I checked the deleted article,and there is no additional information here. There are also no plausible claims for notability, and the material does read exactly like a publicity announcement. Three good reasons for speedy deletion. I have checked the proposed references [2] and [3] and they appear to be in essence reprinted press releases.

The proper course if you wish to proceed is to re-read our Business FAQ, and following the directions there, write a proposed article in your user space and ask for its restoration to main space at deletion review. This will become much more likely as the time gets closer, if there are good independent news accounts in major media. Eastmain, you are right that when the EP actually approves it may b the time for this. I will email you a copy of the original deleted article as a check if you either activate your email or send me your email address through my WP email. --I suppose you have made a copy of this one. Well, there's enough there to convince me to restore it. However I think most of the coverage is trivial, and bearing in mind that the TSX Venture Exchange is a venture capital market for emerging companies, I am listing it at AFD.

I am sorry, but the article is atrociously referenced. Peninsula Times, Gulf Times and AME Info are clearly running press releases from the Sheraton organisation -- those are not real news stories. The only real references come from the NY Times and (of all things) Socialist Worker -- and those just barely mention the hotel in passing. I would like to put this up for AfD, but since I credit myself as being a decent person I want to alert you first of my plans and ask you: do you genuinely believe this article can stand AfD scrutiny? Articles about ports

Is it OK to create articles about ports without references? It's very difficult to find any reliable sources about them. I agree that link to the official cite should be in =external links= only, but what other links can be used to describe the Clipper Yacht Harbor for example? I want to develop this topic in wikipedia (List_of_Marinas) and I've written some articles about different ports, but I don't think that ports should be treated not as commercial firms, but as geographical units.
