A heads-up, not a request

The Crusades article is at PR at Wikipedia:Peer review/Crusades/archive2. I know this is in your area, so if you're interested, please do have at it. But if it doesn't seem interesting, then just let it pass by. :-) Cheers!  Lingzhi ♦ (talk) 02:34, 12 August 2016 (UTC)

William the Conqueror

If you think that is "too much detail for the lead," fair enough. But to simply state that he was "the descendant of Viking raiders" (why "the"?) is an oversimplification. Rollo and his descendants intermarried a bunch. If we state that he was a descendant of Rollo, OK. But "raiders" (plural) makes it sound like that was his entire origin, when in fact he was a bit of a mutt, genetically speaking.

I'm changing the sentence to read "A descendant of Rollo, he was Duke of Normandy from 1035 onward." That gets the crucial point across (Rollo was an ancestor).

Anglo-Saxon Army

Hi Ealdgyth. People have put forward various suggestions at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Military history#Anglo-Saxon Army and I have raised the alterntive of changing it to a redirect to Anglo-Saxon warfare. Dudley Miles (talk) 09:27, 25 August 2016 (UTC)

Uh... what I know about Polish archbishoprics is .. nil. I have nothing that would be a source for that - hell, I don't have any sources for archbishops beyond Normandy... British Isles are a LONG way from Poland.... Ealdgyth - Talk 00:13, 27 August 2016 (UTC)

Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge

Hi there. I've started a new initiative, the Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. It's a long term goal to bring about 10,000 article improvements to the UK and Ireland. Through two contests involving just six or seven weeks of editing so far we've produced over 1500 improvements. Long term if we have more people chipping it and adding articles they've edited independently as well from all areas of the UK then reaching that target is all possible. I think it would be an amazing achievement to see 10,000 article improvements by editors chipping in with whatever area of the British Isles or subject that they work on. If you support this and think you might want to contribute towards this long term please sign up in the Contributors section. No obligations, just post work on anything you feel like whenever you want, though try to avoid basic stubs if possible as we're trying to reduce the overall stub count and improve general comprehension and quality. Thanks.♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:53, 30 August 2016 (UTC)

Coins from the York Museum

Hi Ealdgyth, User:Joan Pritchard is a volunteer for the York Museums Trust. She has been working with them to get their collections on Commons. The work is partly documented their site, albeit the Roman coins rather than medieval but it's part of the same work. Nev1 (talk) 18:31, 30 August 2016 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for September 13

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Josef Glazman, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Partisans. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Tiny comment on linking for Empress Matilda

You reverted my link on Empress Matilda in the list of children for Henry I at the end of the article. Not crazy for you to do, by any means--there are lots of references to Empress Matilda before this in the article--but I don't think I was over-linking given that I was trying to read about who his children were, and I found it ridiculous that his illegitimate and other less important children were linked in the list but she was not. I understand that I could go to the infobox and find her, and that's what I did, but the infobox is uninformative about differentiating his legitimate and illegitimate children. Just a suggestion, but I think it would be reasonable to expect links in "listy" parts of articles that will often be the only thing someone is looking for. Hope this makes sense.
