Hi there, EPIC Ireland is a cultural organisation. It is an Immigration Museum based in the chq building in Dublin. However, I do think that the business is notable and would be beneficial to be listed in the encyclopedia and not for self promotion but due to goal to be similar to the Guinness Storehouse as a visitor attraction of great popularity (we are smaller and newer) but it also educates on the history of Irish Immigration. Currently we are 25 of the things to do in Dublin. (Last week 20) and add an intrinsic experience for someone who wants to know more about the diaspora to Ireland or even for someone who may have experienced it first hand. It would not be possible to list a single person of notority as we showcase several 'famous' Irish people in the exhibition who have added something to the new culture they have integrated with. I would like to build a short profile that I can then add to and develop over time. The museum is a permanent home to this immigration exhibition although some of the characters may change over time. It is my aim to expand the detail at a later date. If you are unconvinced of our addition to Wikipedia please see our website www.epicirelandchq.com. Also I have never listed with Wikipedia before so please excuse the naievity of the profile but I do wish to develop this. Edit: I will rewrite and use less of the words that the press have used to describe it.

Welcome!

Speedy deletion nomination of User:EPIC Ireland

edit

A tag has been placed on your user page, User:EPIC Ireland, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be blatant advertising which only promotes or publicises a company, product, group or service, and which is a violation of our policies regarding acceptable use of user pages; user pages are intended for active editors of Wikipedia to communicate with one another as part of the process of creating encyclopedic content, and should not be mistaken for free webhosting resources. Please read the guidelines on spam, the guidelines on user pages, and, especially, our FAQ for Organizations.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. for (;;) (talk) 10:18, 11 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

Contested deletion

This page is not unambiguously promotional, because... (it is a cultural organisation, it is ireland's brand new immigration museum(awaiting museum status) so we are calling it a 'visitor experience'. It tells the story of 70 million people who left Ireland and made an impact overseas.) --EPIC Ireland (talk) 10:24, 11 July 2016 (UTC) it is a cultural organisation and contributes to society via telling the story of the Irish Diaspora. This is the Irish immigration museum.Reply

There have been two problems with this account: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business or other organisation or group, which is also against policy, as an account must be for just one person. Because of those problems, the account has been blocked indefinitely from editing.

If you intend to make useful contributions about some topic other than your business or organisation, you may request an unblock. To do so, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:CentralAuth to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy. Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:

  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. Jimfbleak - talk to me? 13:38, 11 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

Request reason:

how can i change this so it is not seen as advertising? we are a cultural organisation like the book of kells, dublin

Decline reason:

OK, there's a number of problems here. Firstly, you the organization (the "we" in your comment) cannot have a user account, because the English language Wikipedia does not allow them - it only allows accounts for individuals who wish to help us build our encyclopedia. An individual at EPIC Ireland could have an account (and it could be named something like "person's name at EPIC Ireland"), but it must be for use by only that person and the user page must not be used for writing about the organization.

Next we come to whether you can write about your organization at all, and that depends on a few things. If it satisfies Wikipedia's notability requirements for organizations (see WP:NORG) and that can be supported by multiple reliable sources (see WP:RS), then an article at EPIC Ireland (and not a user page at User:EPIC Ireland) could be written.

But then we come to Wikipedia's conflict of interest policy (see WP:COI), which discourages people from writing about their own employers or organizations - such articles should really be written by disinterested third parties.

So, can you be unblocked and write about your organization? Firstly you would have to request a new username as explained in the block notice and guarantee that it will be used by only one person. Then, while creating an article is discouraged, its not actually forbidden - the person who operates the account would have to disclose their interest as explained in the WP:COI guidelines, and I would suggest using the Articles for Creation process (see WP:AFC) would be the minimum you'd need to agree to for someone to unblock. Oh, and one last thing. An article written the same way as the now-deleted user page would not be accepted, as it was written like a tourist brochure or a marketing press release - a Wikipedia article would need to be factual, neutral, disinterested. If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

our organisation is notable. i will change the wording so that it is informative and take less of the information from the press articles

Decline reason:

Nope, still doesn't look like you've read the previous decline: you have neither requested a username change nor addressed the notability issue is a sensible manner. Max Semenik (talk) 16:11, 11 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

We are new but are here to stay and are Irelands Immigration Museum. I feel that there has been enough written externally above and more to justify the notibility. It will take a while to build up an article but first I just need to remove the block. Thanks.

Hello. I'm back to have a look at creating a Wikipedia page for EPIC. Since applying Epic Ireland has changed to 'EPIC - Ireland's emigration museum.' It has received museum status. For this reason I think it would be of value to have listed in an encyclopedia page such as Wikipedia. I would like to talk to someone about writing the article as I don't think i'm certain about the style that you would like it written in. I would appreciate any input. Best, Margaret. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.101.10.129 (talk) 11:15, 21 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
