Speedy deletion of East Kent Mavericks edit

A tag has been placed on East Kent Mavericks requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a club, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guidelines for people and for organizations.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Otolemur crassicaudatus (talk) 15:05, 18 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Notability of East Kent Mavericks edit

The article East Kent Mavericks has been speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This was done because the article seemed to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, but it did not indicate how or why the subject is notable, that is, why an article about that subject should be included in Wikipedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the notability of the subject may be deleted at any time. If you can indicate why the subject is really notable, you are free to re-create the article, making sure to cite any verifiable sources.

Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, and for specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for musicians, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. - CobaltBlueTony™ talk 15:17, 18 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

I've restored the article, but I have questions as to the professional status of this league. Are they paid? If they aren't, they probably don't belong on Wikipedia. - CobaltBlueTony™ talk 15:39, 18 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

  If you have a close connection to some of the people, places or things you have written about in the article East Kent Mavericks, you may have a conflict of interest. In keeping with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, edits where there is a conflict of interest, or where such a conflict might reasonably be inferred from the tone of the edit and the proximity of the editor to the subject, are strongly discouraged. If you have a conflict of interest, you should avoid or exercise great caution when:

  1. editing articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with;
  2. participating in deletion discussions about articles related to your organization or its competitors;
  3. linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam);
    and you must always:
  4. avoid breaching relevant policies and guidelines, especially neutral point of view, verifiability, and autobiography.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have conflict of interest, please see Wikipedia:Business' FAQ. For more details about what constitutes a conflict of interest, please see Wikipedia:Conflict of Interest. Thank you. - CobaltBlueTony™ talk 15:39, 18 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia!

I hope not to seem unfriendly or make you feel unwelcome, but I noticed your username, and I am concerned that it might not meet Wikipedia's username policy for the following reason: name of a team; indicates single-purpose account. After you look over that policy, could we discuss that concern here?

I'd appreciate learning your own views, for instance your reasons for wanting this particular name, and what alternative username you might accept that avoids raising this concern.

You have several options freely available to you:

Thank you. - CobaltBlueTony™ talk 15:39, 18 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

If you would like to keep your user name, only your edit history would reveal whether your focus would constitute your account as a single-purpose account. If you are a fan who just so happens to be a player, I'm not entirely convinced that you would be a detriment to the project. If anyone else raises concerns, then we can redress this issue; for now, I will simply see how you contribute and leave it at that. - CobaltBlueTony™ talk 15:10, 23 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Test editing edit

We often recommend that new editors try editing articles in their own user space, such as User:EKMaverick72/Sandbox, and request off-the-record evaluation from that copy. Thereafter it can be moved into the article namespace. You can also take the time to review relevant policies, such as WP:ORG for organizations, WP:ATHLETE for individual athlete articles, WP:BIO for individual people articles, or start at the top and review all the notability criteria here. If you make a reasonable claim of notability, such an article is much less likely to be tagged for speedy deletion. However, to prevent the article from being deleted in the future, you must cite verifiable, reliable sources which support the notability and any other statements in the article. Articles claiming notability but lacking these elements may be tagged with boxes which indicate what's missing or what needs improvement; if those issues go unaddressed for too long, the article may be prodded or nominated for deletion.

If you start an article in the main space, read WP:STUB and try to have as many required elements in it as you can. To inspire others to give your article a chance, try adding the {{inuse}} tag at the top, if you're still working on it. (Don't use the tag if you're just going to leave it for others!) For more helpful information, try reading WP:Your first article. Cheers and happy editing! - CobaltBlueTony™ talk 15:35, 24 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of East Kent Mavericks edit

A tag has been placed on East Kent Mavericks requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a club, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guidelines for people and for organizations. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you.
