List of Alabama Metropolitan Areas

I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article List of Alabama Metropolitan Areas, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, or, if you disagree with the notice, discuss the issues at its talk page. Removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, but the article may still be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached, or if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria. I'm afaraid that there are no CC lisences that are directly compatable with GFDL. thus CC text can't be put on wikipedia unless it is also GFDL.Geni 01:31, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

The above warnings are, in my opinion, misapplied. The inclusion of Flickr.com on Shadowbot's spam blacklist may have merit, but it is not supported by the cited policy (WP:EL). The result is that the bot is enforcing "secret rules" and overturning, in this case, good faith edits by an experienced Wikipedia editor. In reverting my attempts to reverse its actions, the bot also assumes that I am editing in bad faith, a judgment no editor should take lightly, especially a bot. --Dystopos 14:41, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

Stepping away

• My recent experience in having good faith efforts reverted by automated processes has soured me on Wikipedia as a collaborative project. I believe that in this instance that:

1. A "bot" has removed useful and acceptable external links from two articles.
2. The bot makes reference to WP:EL, but its actions go well beyond the guideline developed there by consensus and acts on a privately-kept blacklist.
3. The bot also reverted good faith and considered attempts to restore the links.
4. In doing so, the bot warned the good faith editor about spamming Wikipedia. (I believe this to be an assumption of bad faith -- never to be made lightly, especially by automated process).
5. The subsequent discussion about the bot's behavior revealed a degree of bureaucratic ineptitude which I am loathe to suffer.

Therefore I will be stepping away from Wikipedia indefinitely. --Dystopos 16:51, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

Mentioning zoned school districts for condominiums

It would SEEM so, but that's not the case. 1. Many American cities (to be fair, Birmingham isn't one of them) are served by multiple school districts. I.E. the city of Houston (where I live) has several school districts serving the city limits. 2. School districts typically assign schools to specific subdivisions or addresses. This should be noted for each *notable* condominium and each subdivision of a given city. WhisperToMe 04:32, 15 February 2007 (UTC)

Maybe a paper encyclopedia wouldn't mention such things - but, I do not see the problem with mentioning them on here - especially since, in many neighborhoods, the schools form part of the "identities" of the said neighborhoods.

And, since many neighborhood articles mention the local schools, I thought I would add the same information to individual condominiums, since condominiums, just like platted subdivisions, have permanent residents of all ages.

Your edits to Tulane University

I was only editing the parts already added to the lore section. These parts are all common myths and lore around Tulane University, as I am a current student. However, how is one supposed to make a section about the massive amount of legends around Tulane that includes sources? There are not meant to be fact; they are legends. I can find a few allusions to them, so I'll be adding back those that I can find. Also, I know that many of these legends and myths are told to touring students and families by the Green Wave Ambassadors. If I gain access to an Ambassador guide that has this information in it, I'll post that. --Bobster687 20:20, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

Re: Infoboxneeded

Hi and thanks for the message. While I'd like to have the time to add infoboxes myself, I don't. I find that it is more productive to add the note, and someone — usually someone more interested in the article's subject than I — typically adds the infobox within a week or so.

Also, what I'm mainly trying to do right now is to clean up this category. This category exists to show articles where Template:Infoboxneeded is on the talk page and not the article. Quite often, this template is placed on talk pages where the article already has the right infobox! So I'm trying to clean up alot of this mess.

So right now I'm in cleanup mode, hence the ib needed boxes and not the ib's themselves. I hope this is acceptable. Timneu22 00:37, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

In life and in Wikipedia, I like to set up others for success — if nothing else, "infoboxneeded" gives inexperienced users a great place to start! Paul 'Bear' Bryant

I have made my argument for the inclusion of information on the talk page of Bear Bryant. I feel that the other user removed info that did not present a biased point of view and added other info(the info about the 'shared' National Championships) that doesn't seem to be commonplace. I would appreciate it if you would comment on my arguments and whether they are valid or not. It does concern me that in the past, the user has vandalized the page that he now is editing, so I am not completely convinced of his intention to 'improve' the page, but think that he could be attempting to subvert the intentions of Wikipedia and damage the article in a different fashion. I did offer more information on my views of the edits on the article's talk page if you could read that. And I'm not just some crazed football fan wanteing to defend his team, I have a degree in English Lit, so I know a little about point-of-view. I did not agree with all of the info being removed from the article using the excuse of POV. I haven't edited Wikipedia before, but have used it many times, so I don't have a username and I'm not sure how to sign this. Sorry

I have never heard anyone use the phrase "post graduation trip". I went to las vegas about three months ago. Was that a post graduation trip? I am not in highschool anymore. Re:Question regarding List of counties in Alabama

It's just a bonus for the reader. For an average reader, it's time consuming to click on the link of the person just to see who he/she is and then click on the "Back" button to get back. A couple of words will not harm the list yet will be beneficial to the reader. It's more of a preference than a requirement, but as you can see many featured county lists use that format: Texas, Wyoming, Vermont. FLC guidelines say that an FLC can remain open if an article has no opposition but not enough support for a pass, or if there is an active discussion. And, considering that there had been no edits made to the page for four days, I did not think that either of those requirements were fulfilled. BhamWiki is down

Wanted to make sure you know BhamWiki is down as of 9:15 CST on 22 Oct 2007. I got the following error at the main page:

Thanks for offering to create a proper stub for this individual; the only reason I deleted it was because some vandal had created a very rude page under that name and I was tracing the links before deleting the page (I was working on the "better safe than sorry" principle).
