Speedy deletion of Dwayne perkins edit

A tag has been placed on Dwayne perkins, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article seems to be blatant advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the guidelines on spam as well as Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. - Realkyhick (Talk to me) 06:44, 30 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi Dwayne, I noticed you don't think your page should be deleted. There are a few reasons why it should be:
  1. Wikipedia has a more-or-less strict policy about notability of article subjects. A quick Google search suggests that you might be notable, though there are lots of people who appear on TV who aren't.
  2. Wikipedia has an absolutely strict policy about not being used to promote yourself
  3. Wikipedia also has a fairly strict policy about conflicts of interest. Given that we require neutral assessments of notability, as well as clearly-referenced reliable sources, you are not in a position to be able to accurately assess whether or not you are notable. If someone does write an article about you, you are welcome to comment on it, subject to our policies on biographies of living persons, as well as the information found here.
I hope that addresses your concerns, and I further hope that you will stick around on Wikipedia to contribute to other projects. I have also put a whole bunch of links for you below that outline Wikipedia policies, how to edit articles, and generally things work around here. Cheers. Hi Dwayne, thanks for the message. The community has decided on which articles should be included in the project; the decision is explained by the contents of the pages on notability and conflict of interest. The best way for us to ensure that we are getting neutral information is to require that personal involvement in the subject of an article is almost always a bar to editing that article. Look at it this way: if you come to Wikipedia to look up, say, a new medication your doctor has put you on, you'd want to be certain that you're reading facts and not PR from a drug company rep, right? Or if you were looking up your local candidates for Congress, you'd want to be sure you were seeing neutral reporting of their positions. Similarly, because it's fundamentally impossible to have a policy that says "no editing or creating articles about yourself unless they're neutral," it's much easier for us to have a policy that says "really, it's just a bad idea to write anything about yourself. If you really think it should be created, please go here and ask." The short version is, if you're creating an article about yourself it's almost always going to look like self-promotion.
While it's true that all Wikipedia policies are open to interpretation, we are fairly cut-and-dried about conflicts of interest. They are, bottom line, bad for the project.
If you truly think that you are notable enough that there should be an article about you here, I suggest you do the following:
  1. Write an article about yourself in your sandbox (click here). Ensure that it is completely neutral and factual. Read WP:CITE and WP:Reliable Sources for how to make citations and make sure they're reliable
  2. Ask for a second opinion from someone neutral about whether they think it should be moved into the mainspace
  3. Alternatively, go to [{WP:AFC]] (Articles for Creation), and ask someone there to write it
Cheers. Prince of Canada t | c 12:01, 30 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
