No original research

Dear Managerarc, I am new to wikipedia and still trying to figure out many things, e.g., how to send you an email (and hoping that this might still reach you), how to "cite" a friend's birthday. I can only say that I have now known Vishal (and his family) for about 28 years and I used to be his senior at Hindu College. Vishal left us just a couple of days back here in Toronto where he had come to attend the IIFA 2011 awards and also won the IIFA 2011 for Best Dialogues for the film Ishqia. And, I reconfirmed his date of birth, just in case; so, this is now coming directly from the horse's mouth. Dvermaus (talk) 13:38, 30 June 2011 (UTC)

Original research is not acceptable on Wikipedia. This means that all material added to articles must be attributable to a reliable published source. All the content on Biographies of living persons must be cited with a third party published source. Any unsourced material which is based on your personal experiences cannot be added unless you provide a published reliable source. Managerarc: I am not sure if this helps or is even fair since Vishal doesn't have any published biography, and there are no birth certificates, esp. around the times our generation comes from in India. And the height of ridiculousness would be that even Vishal himself wouldn't be able to change this since you can always invoke the rule of "no original research", so I guess we both will wait until someone publishes his biography, which will for you "authenticate" what is right already. A published source does not necessarily means a biography. It can be any reliable newspaper or a magazine as well such as the ones you can see in the "References" section. --- Managerarc™ ^talk 15:46, 30 June 2011 (UTC)
