Left aligning edit

I cannot get 'Site name' to left align even though so far as I can see I am using identical syntax to articles where it is left aligned such as List of Sites of Special Scientific Interest in Cambridgeshire. Can you advise what the problem is please. Dudley Miles (talk) 18:25, 20 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

You were using “row” not "row" (i.e. curly quotes instead of straight quotes). Wikipedia markup only recognizes the latter. Primefac (talk) 21:24, 20 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

User pages with reference errors edit

This page is in the category: User pages with reference errors, but I cannot find any. Is there a tool or script to find what they are?

I thought I had the warnings levels turned all the way up in my preferences, so I expected to see some red or green indications of reference errors when I went to edit your sandbox. Instead, I see nothing.
About all I can advise is that you be content with ignoring the message or, if you want to be compulsive, do a 'binary search' on the page by chopping out half the content at each stage until you get a better indication of which line is generating the category.
I'll leave the help request open for now, in hopes that someone with more skill than I have can help you. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 22:41, 25 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
Dudley Miles, I am working this out part by part. Pls wait, Eumat114 formerly The Lord of Math (Message) 04:22, 26 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
Utterly confused. I narrowed it down to the 4 columns "Area", "Access", "Location" and "Map and citation". Removing "Access" (Special:Diff/953196082) removed the error; however, "Access" has no citations. Removing the "Area" and "Map" also removed the error. I simply have no idea what is going on. Perhaps you should leave it alone? Leaving help tag open. Eumat114 formerly The Lord of Math (Message) 04:52, 26 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
Thanks to both of you for trying. At least I know that it was not just my stupidity! I plan to move the article to mainspace and start a new article in my sandbox, but if anyone has another go they can look at the version on 25 April. Dudley Miles (talk) 08:31, 26 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
It looks like this is as resolved as it will be. Just remove the -helped from {{helpme}} if I'm wrong. I dream of horses (t) (c) Remember to {{ping}} me after replying off my talk page 09:12, 26 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
@I dream of horses: I will leave the question as answered, but add for information that I have moved the draft to List of Sites of Special Scientific Interest in Hampshire, which is now in categories Pages with reference errors and Pages with incorrect ref formatting. Dudley Miles, I guess I found the source of the problems. I need some coding to fix it; pls wait. Eumat114 formerly The Lord of Math (Message) 10:02, 26 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
Many thanks for your help Eumat114. Dudley Miles (talk) 10:23, 26 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
Dudley Miles, bad news: it seems too complicated to fix this. The problem with the page is all those <ref name= xxx(/)> tags, which have to be changed to <ref name=“xxx”> (note the quotation marks, but they need to be straight). There are several hundred instances of this, most of which must be slowly fixed. Eumat114 formerly The Lord of Math (Message) 13:11, 26 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
Eumat114 I do not see a problem now. The error message on List of Sites of Special Scientific Interest in Hampshire has gone. I have never used quotes for ref names and I have never had error messages before - and I do not now. Thanks again for the trouble you have taken. Dudley Miles (talk) 14:56, 26 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
