Hi WikiDan61,
Thanks a lot for your review.
Appreciate your comment on sources.
Though, my page has both more current sources and is more researched than the existing Vietnamese page: https://vi.wikipedia.org/wiki/M%E1%BA%ADt_sim
Can you clarify then why one should be rejected but not the other?
Thank you. Dubo Dubon Duponey (talk) 16:03, 5 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

Furthermore, your comment reads "lack of significant coverage in reliable sources".
The two sources I pointed out do have "significant coverage": they do indeed "address the topic directly and in detail".
Are you then suggesting they are not reliable sources? If so, can you clarify on what basis?
Thanks again. Dubo Dubon Duponey (talk) 16:28, 5 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
Both sources are either local travel or product sales websites, aiming to entice people to travel to Phu Quoc Island or purchase Myrtle Wine. As such, neither is considered a reliable source. Reliable sources consist of newspaper and magazine articles, as well as scholarly journals; websites where a reasonable level of editorial oversight might be expected. I suggest you read up on Wikipedia's definition of reliable sources for a better understanding. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 18:08, 5 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
This is a traditional fermented drink that is little known outside of Vietnam (like Banyuls is little known outside of France, for eg).
Most, or all of the content about it is going to be travel guides documenting local stuff.
This seems to me that this is common place on Wikipedia for similar things (obviously because there is no other sources, which does not mean it is not "notable" (in the plain english sense of the word)).
For example, just a quick glance at
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Banyuls_AOC
or
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yuja_tea shows obvious references at marketing material from companies selling the stuff, individuals food blogs, sponsored / questionable food/health/lifestyle articles, etc.
I did read the page on "reliable source", and I fail to see how a magazine would be a more reliable source or be less incentivized in promoting content.
Furthermore, "a reasonable level of editorial oversight" is very subjective, and is obviously not a guarantee of accuracy, trustfulness, or lack of commercial incentive.
Anyhow, I am not suggesting to fight Wikipedia generic rules.
I am saying that common sense should apply depending on the topic and region.
Also, consistency is clearly an open question here: shouldn't we delete the Vietnamese page for Mat Sin? Or the Banyuls page, or the Yuja Tea page?
Thanks. Dubo Dubon Duponey (talk) 18:34, 5 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
