Welcome! edit

Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. The following links will help you begin editing on Wikipedia:

Please bear these points in mind while editing Wikipedia:

  • Please respect others' copyrights; do not copy and paste the contents from webpages directly.
  • Please use a neutral point of view when editing articles; this is possibly the most important Wikipedia policy.
  • If you are testing, please use the Sandbox to do so.
  • Do not add unreasonable contents into any articles, such as: copyrighted text, advertisement messages, and text that is not related to an article's subject. Adding such unreasonable information or otherwise editing articles maliciously is considered vandalism, and will result in your account being blocked.

Image Tagging for Image:A21logo.gif edit

Thanks for uploading Image:A21logo.gif. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

Australia 21 edit

Hi, I deleted the article Australia 21 because it appears to be a copyright violation lifted from Australia 21's website and brochure. Wikipedia cannot accept material that you have not written entirely yourself. Please be careful of this in future because copyright violations can lead to accounts being blocked from editing. Thanks, Sarah 01:27, 17 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Blocked edit

A day after I warned you above about violating copyright, you posted Aileen Plant, which also appears to be a blatant copyright violation, cribbed together from a variety of articles and obituaries. It would appear that you have ignored my warning and I am concerned that you do not seem to be getting the message that violating copyright is completely unacceptable and a very serious matter. So I have blocked you for three days. If there is an explanation for these articles, you may post it here. Please be aware that continuing to post articles that you have not written yourself will result in longer blocks, leading to an indefinite block. Sarah 10:55, 19 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Unspecified source for Image:Australia_21_logo.gif edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Australia_21_logo.gif. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self-no-disclaimers}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 00:44, 9 May 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. User:Gay Cdn (talk) (Contr) 00:44, 9 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Australia_21_logo.gif) edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Australia_21_logo.gif. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Archie D’Souza edit

The article Archie D’Souza has been speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This was done because the article seemed to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it did not indicate how or why the subject is notable, that is, why an article about that subject should be included in Wikipedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert notability may be deleted at any time. If you can indicate why the subject is really notable, you are free to re-create the article, making sure to cite any verifiable sources.

Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, and for specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for musicians, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. --MCB 06:34, 3 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:A21logo.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:A21logo.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 04:29, 12 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Notability of Leo duck edit

A tag has been placed on Leo duck requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Eeekster (talk) 02:44, 9 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Image tagging for File:Anthony Martis.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:Anthony Martis.jpg. You don't seem to have said where the image came from or who created it. We require this information to verify that the image is legally usable on Wikipedia, and because most image licenses require giving credit to the image's creator.

To add this information, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the information to the image's description. If you need help, post your question on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions.

Urdu Wikipedia edit

Dear friend,

You seem to be an active Wikipedian from Pakistan. We have an Urdu Wikipedia that needs all the help that it can get. Currently, we do not have many active users and we will really appreciate if you would consider becoming an active contributor. As you are already familiar with Wikipedia's style and rules, your presence would also help elevate the overall content quality.

AfD nomination of Melito Dias edit

An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Melito Dias. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Melito Dias. Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:08, 7 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference edit

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being minor in the usual way.

For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. With the script in place, you can continue with this functionality indefinitely (its use is governed by WP:MINOR). If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 19:07, 15 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

File permission problem with File:Louis Mascarenhas.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:Louis Mascarenhas.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Fut.Perf. 08:30, 24 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

File permission problem with File:Father Louis Mascarenhas OFM.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:Father Louis Mascarenhas OFM.jpg, which you've attributed to Fr Jim Brok. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

Thank you. —Darkwind (talk) 04:20, 20 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hello, great work overall! A lot of village articles provide no sourcing, so very glad to see you took care of that from the beginning. A few points:
  • Please write your citations out fully (title, date, publisher, author if stated), so that we can find the article even if the link changes
  • I added an infobox, and included the only coordinates I could find claimed to be this village. Can you please check and make sure these coordinates/map is correct?
  • Please edit the infobox to include the Urdu spelling of the village (I believe there is a space for it in the line below the title, just remove the old code from where I copied Faridabad's infobox.
  • If you are interested in further improving Sanghar coverage, we could really use the infobox added to each Sanghar District village, so if you can copy-paste that coding to each village, and add whatever info you have available, that would help our coverage of the area.
  • If you have any digital photos of Padree, or other villages in the area, those would be great additions to the article!

Speedy deletion nomination of Aileen Soares edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Aileen Soares, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion debate, such as at articles for deletion. Under the specified criteria, where an article has substantially identical content to that of an article deleted after debate, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. SMS Talk 04:48, 5 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

Your draft article, Draft:Cyril Almeida edit

Hello, Dsouzaron. It has been over six months since you last edited your WP:AFC draft article submission, entitled "Cyril Almeida".

The page will shortly be deleted. If you plan on editing the page to address the issues raised when it was declined and resubmit it, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}} or {{db-g13}} code. Please note that Articles for Creation is not for indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you want to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by one of two methods (don't do both): 1) follow the instructions at WP:REFUND/G13, or 2) copy this code: {{subst:Refund/G13|Draft:Cyril Almeida}}, paste it in the edit box at this link, and click "Save page". An administrator will in most cases undelete the submission.

Speedy deletion nomination of Joseph D'Mello edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Joseph D'Mello requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Adding {{infobox settlement}} to non-settlements edit

It is unclear to me why you add {{infobox settlement}} to articles about institutes and parishes, but this is very unusual. This infobox should only be used for settlements.--Muhandes (talk) 22:19, 25 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

If you do add it for settlements, why name it "Karachi" if this is not the name of the settlement? You should not use {{infobox settlement}} just for the purpose of adding a map, use it properly. --Muhandes (talk) 22:24, 25 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
You asked at my home page So what map can I use?. In general maps are added to existing infoboxes using the pushpin options, not added on their own. However, most articles about organizations don't need a map, and adding a map is not advised. Look for good articles of similar subjects and see if consensus is to add a map for this type of article or not. For example, hospitals and universities usually don't come with maps. Geographically important structures such as lighthouses come with a map. Settlements usually come with a map, which is added to the existing infobox, see the parameters of {{infobox settlement}}, but usually one does not add an infobox just for the map. I hope this helps. --Muhandes (talk) 23:11, 25 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
As I explained above, the maps you are adding are inappropriate. Please stop. --Muhandes (talk) 18:00, 31 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Australia 21 edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Australia 21 requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a company, corporation or organization, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia.

However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Speedy deletion of Michael Robert Kennedy edit

If this was the first article that you created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

The page Michael Robert Kennedy has been speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This was done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appeared to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appeared to be a direct copy from http://armidale.catholic.org.au/bishops-of-armidale-diocese. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition has been be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

Please do not recreate the material without addressing these concerns, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If you think this page should not have been deleted for this reason, you may contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you may open a discussion at Wikipedia:Deletion ReviewDarkwind (talk) 11:28, 9 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

"Category:Universities producing US presidents" is a POV name edit

Please change the title of Category:Universities producing US presidents to something that doesn't include the word "produce" as it states that the university is responsible for those people becoming president; it's likely, in many cases, that those people would have gone on to be president if they had attended a different institution as it's their personal attributes and prior connections that launched their political careers. "Category:Universities with US president alumni" would work.

You might also want to double-check that all of these institutions are "universities" or were universities when these people attended; it's possible that you may also need to change the category title to include colleges i.e., "Colleges and universities with US president alumni".

And if you're creating or updating this category, be sure to include non-US institutions, too. ElKevbo (talk) 00:04, 25 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Adding infoboxes edit

Hello, I can see you have been adding infoboxes to articles. There is a big problem however, you are using an infobox layout and parameters from another article that has unsupported parameters. Please copy the basic syntax (a fresh copy) from the template page - this template is for schools. Thanks, Steven (Editor) (talk) 18:53, 24 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

See Category:Infobox templates for a list of other infoboxes with links to their respective pages, where you can copy a fresh infobox for use in articles. Thanks, Steven (Editor) (talk) 19:01, 24 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for this new article. Note that other editors have called for more evidence of the young woman's notability, and therefore her eligibility for a Wikipedia article. Her circumstances are certainly unfortunate but she still needs to be the subject of significant news coverage.

Scott Guerini moved to draftspace edit

An article you recently created, Scott Guerini, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page.
