Proposed deletion of Max North edit

The article Max North has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this biography of a living person will be deleted after seven days unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp/dated}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within seven days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. Speedy deletion nomination of Dr. Max North edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Dr. Max North requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from http://facultyweb.kennesaw.edu/mnorth/. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. — O Fortuna!   Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. We welcome and appreciate your contributions, but it appears you have written or added to an article about yourself. Creating an autobiography is strongly discouraged – see our guideline on writing autobiographies. If you create such an article, it may be deleted. If what you have done in life is genuinely notable and can be verified according to our policy for articles about living people, someone else will probably create an article about you sooner or later (see Wikipedians with articles). If you wish to add to an existing article about yourself, please propose the changes on its talk page. Please understand that this is an encyclopedia and not a personal web space or social networking site. If your article has already been deleted, please see: Why was my page deleted?, and if you feel the deletion was an error, please discuss it with the deleting administrator. Thank you. — O Fortuna! March 2017 edit

Please stop your disruptive editing. If you continue to introduce inappropriate pages to Wikipedia, you may be blocked from editing. If you need guidance on how to create appropriate pages, try using the Article Wizard. Please desist from creating and recreating autobiographies. You clearly have a conflict of interest, and in any case your pages are almost verbatim copyright violations. Many thanks. O Fortuna! Imperatrix mundi. 16:32, 4 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Your article(s) edit

Even though you wrote the text, it is published somewhere and that means it is copyright (and says so at the bottom of the page). Wikipedia is licensed under CC-BY-SA 3.0 and the GFDL for free use by anyone anywhere (including modification and commercial use). Text that is copyright is not compatible with our licence. Text that is licensed the same way as Wikipedia is can be imported, so long as its source is acknowledged (AND the source page is clearly marked as CC-BY-SA 3.0 licensed). This licensing is irrevocable, and releases the text for free use without being under your control. This is why we cannot allow unlicensed text here, except as brief and necessary quotes where applicable. I would ask you to read WP:AUTOBIO about, well, autobiography. It is strongly not recommended here. In addition, please read WP:BIO to see what is needed for a bio, and WP:RS about the reliable independent sources needed to prove the notability. This may seem a lot, but we need these rules to prevent people turning Wikipedia into another Facebook or LinkedIn. I'm sure you will appreciate the need for referencing, which is particularly great in the case of biographies of living people. The text you posted is actually freer of profile promo than most I see (the 'successfully' being a minor case), but it is still a profile, not an article. I advise looking at a variety of other biographies (particularly ones with more than one editor, and which are not newly posted). If you just seek somewhere to post your profile, LinkedIn is always there. They (so far as I know) don't insist on tedious things like referencing. I hope you might stay and use your expertise to help keep Wikipedia as accurate as can be. So many people complain loudly about inaccuracy, but never lift a finger to help put it right. (That's how I got in here - removing some rubbish from Dill in 2008.) BTW I'm sorry you find the interface hard. I still use the old coded interface rather than the Visual Editor, which I found very irritating. It's just a matter of getting used to it, really. To judge from the grammar and wording, some of those that post here look to be about 8 years old (in attainment if not calendar years), but they manage to produce articles (that usually get deleted as non-notable or attack) somehow. Wikipedia is not for writing about yourself edit

Welcome to Wikipedia, but it is not a place like Facebook or LinkedIn for people to write about themselves. It is a quite different sort of site, a project to build an encyclopedia, so it is selective about subjects for articles, and writing about oneself is strongly discouraged, for reasons explained at Wikipedia is not about YOU and Wikipedia:Autobiography.

Wikipedia user pages are not like those at social-networking sites. Their use is explained at WP:NOTWEBHOST:

"Wikipedians have their own user pages, but they should be used primarily to present information relevant to working on the encyclopedia. Limited biographical information is allowed, but user pages should not function as personal webpages or be repositories for large amounts of material that is irrelevant to collaborating on Wikipedia. If you are looking to make a personal webpage or blog or to post your résumé, please make use of one of the many free providers on the Internet or any hosting included with your Internet account."

You can find out more about Wikipedia at the WP:Welcome page and the WP:Introduction. CAPTAIN RAJU (✉) 20:56, 4 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

I've moved it edit

It's now in your user space at User:Drmaxnorth/draft. You can work on it there, because the patrollers only tag there for hoax, attack, advertising or copyright violation. I did say that writing about yourself is not recommended, but if you insist, that's the place to build the article. Not in article space, where construction time can be limited. To be in article space, anything must be able to stand on it's own feet. User space (but not THE user page) and Draft: space give much longer for working on things. When you get something together, ask for an opinion. Any of the patrollers you've encountered will give opinions, or I can get a colleague of mine (who often enjoys rescuing things) to have a look. Get the references first, then write around them. Don't quote any existing profiles, and be neutral (and third person only). That's the hard part for most people. Also, don't be humorous. (That's one reason why I don't write articles here or obituaries anywhere. I can get away with it in books, plays and manuals.) Peridon (talk) 21:22, 4 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
