FYI

Just so you know, I now have a new username at User:Seivad. Previously I was known as [[User::Abcdefghijklm]]. This message has been left for everyone who has left a message on my talk page . Thanks for your time, Seivad 21:46, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the Welcome

I finally posted my first edit today and received your welcome to Wikipedia; thanks for the gesture and I hope to get further involved in the future! --SinisterLemon 22:34, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

ICRC

Hi Draeco, I'm still on vacation but my hiatus seems to be over. I had a look at your article. I wasn't sure of the best way to indicate suggestions--I didn't just want to edit your article in-place--so I created a copy in my user-space: User:Rodney Boyd/ICRC. I hope my editing conventions are more or less intelligible. As a general comment, I found that after an initial reading it still wasn't clear to me what the mandate of the ICRC is in contrast with that of other Red Cross organizations. I think I understand it now, but it's still a little murky. Regards, Rodney Boyd 00:42, 23 July 2006 (UTC)‎

Thanks for your welcome

This is probably long overdue, since it's been 8 months since you welcomed me to Wikipedia and I never responded. What can I say, I was kind of shy back then, but now, after I've just contributed a little more than 500 edits on the main space, I'm not as shy as I used to be  . Anyway, I'd like to express my gratitude. Star Ghost 04:02, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

Loreto

Could I ask you to have a look at this recent edit to Misión de Nuestra Señora de Loreto Conchó? It's summarized as "corrections, additions, pruning of extraneous material", but it sure looks to me like a lot of what was pruned was not by any means extraneous. At a quick glance, the article as rewritten removes, among other things, all mention of the 1767/1768 expulsion of the Jesuits and of the independence of Mexico. It seems to cut quite a bit else that is also relevant. On the other hand, it may have some actual "corrections and additions", so I hesitate to revert. And it's not a topic I know much about.

I see you worked extensively on this a while back, so I'm turning to you on this. - Jmabel | Talk 19:17, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

Cornelio Sommaruga

Hi there, I just would like to point your interest to the above article. I've done some basic copy-editing and wikifying, perhaps you can clean up the text a bit more. If I have some more time, I will try to synchronize the content with the German article I've written some time ago. After a quick look, it seems to me that all essential information is provided and correct. --Uwe 19:21, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

Left-aligning a UBX

What do you think of switching the graphic of User:Will Pittenger/User Boxes/Wikipedia Since to align to the left, like many other userboxes? Just a thought. I appreciate all you've done with userboxes; they could take Wikipedia in an interesting direction. - Draeco 03:04, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

Sorry if I took a while to reply. I don't visit much at the moment. Some of my user boxes put the graphic on the right to mix it up. Feel free to create your own version in your own user space. Will (Talk - contribs) 03:42, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

Deletion of Bitome

A tag has been placed on Bioptome, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:

To short and/or does not give great support of what it is.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as an appropriate article, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is appropriate, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. I Play Sax! 01:24, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Patterson School Flag.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Patterson School Flag.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Zedla 00:42, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Template:Breakdancing moves

A tag has been placed on Template:Breakdancing moves requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a deprecated or orphaned template. After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.

If the template is intended to be substituted, please feel free to remove the speedy deletion tag and please consider putting a note on the template's page indicating that it is substituted so as to avoid any future mistakes (<noinclude>{{transclusionless}}</noinclude>).

Thanks. --MZMcBride (talk) 02:25, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

Cocaine

Hey there just letting you know that I reverted your last edit on cocaine. The fact about procaine and lidocaine being unrelated is untrue. You'll find further information in here. Check in the Introduction and history section. Thanks for the contribution Medos (talkcontribs) 16:11, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the reply. I do see your point on the structural differences. They're not as easy to group based on appearance like maybe the steroids. I have to admit that I struggle to see the structural difference between lidocaine and cocaine. It's harder to see the difference between procaine and cocaine mainly because the structure are the opposite ways around on both articles. Medos (talkcontribs) 20:29, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

Hi Draeco

Hey that would be great, I need help, this place is a mess. Basically, I think the first thing I've learned is that I'm an inclusionist and if you are we should get along just fine. I resent having to negotiate, especially when it is something I know more than others about, and wanted to encourage one soul who wondered why his own life experience couldn't be part of the mix ...but he had left! And I think there's a lesson in that. I got into trouble at Frank Zappa because I thought his invitation to conduct the cream of three orchestras, in an event I witnessed, and had references for, was enough of a reason to enter it in, but some rock-n-roller thought it insignificant as a "one-off," not even a term that serious musicians use. When I pointed out that the individual was using slang, and not speaking like a musician, my remark was erased, as if that were libellous. So I found out that Wikipedia is not about authority, it about diplomacy. Yuk. I am still getting roped in, but probably because I switched to something literally sexy, namely pornography. And I find myself in the middle of a deletionist argument. First question: I guess we always put our latest entry in talk at the BOTTOM of the page... that seems counterintuitive, for sure... is it universal? Best,Xophorus (talk) 03:53, 21 November 2008 (UTC)

Another couple of items: First, where do I sign up as an inclusionist? Secondly, I'm a trifle confused about what the best way to communicate is: If I have your answers on my page, I can refer to them most usefully, and perhaps with least bother to you... but for full usefulness, that would mean having the questions on my page... do you consult my Talk to find out whether I'm talking to you? It would at least keep your talk page cleaner... Thanks, Xophorus (talk) 22:47, 22 November 2008 (UTC)

Hi adopter, Draeco. Just been away for short wiki recess, since relatives of my 3 school mates called for help. Some of their kins died and were injured in Mumbai. Do I have to reply to the message sent to me in my talk page, hereunder? It seems I had been dragged into this thing. Maybe I should not have been put my name in the Filipino pedians category. trust in wiki

Me and Bmoc2012tms are attempting to start a wikiproject based on the fact that many people might not trust wiki due to the fact that anyone can edit. we ar trying to make it some that everyone has full confidence in us. We need to let people know about the vast amount on technology we have to reverse vandalism and other things. Most people think we cant keep track of every single edit. help us show that they can have complete faith in us.

P.S. please alert as many people as you can about this thank you DCsniper207 (talk) 20:44, 15 December 2008 (UTC)

Adoption

Thank you for your offer. I am interested. As you can probably tell, I'm not exactly brand new to Wikipedia; I've been stumbling around here for over two years now (first explored it in 2005; first edit in 2006, I believe). I managed to learn a few things, but only very slowly---after much trial and error and suffering through many initial misconceptions. I only work (outside the home) on three days out of the week so you'd think I would have found plenty of time to teach myself, but what I call my "adult ADD" seems to be my biggest limitation. With family and household considerations, my time spent online is likely to be in short bursts with frequent interuptions and long breaks in between sessions, but if you're still willing to adopt me, I accept. Shanoman (talk) 17:39, 16 December 2008 (UTC)

Thank you, I accept your offer for adoption. As for questions [about Wikipedia], I'm not sure where to begin. Off the top of my head, I'm wondering how to create links (both internal and external), how to create footnotes/references, and I'm especially interested right now on how to vastly improve the appearance of the userboxes on my user page (without deleting ANY of them). I'd like to organize them better, but I'm having considerable difficulty rearranging them. Shanoman (talk) 22:34, 16 December 2008 (UTC)

Adoption

Thank you so much for adopting me! How will we talk? Via this page and my discussion page? I do have a considerable number of Qs for you and I wouldn't want to mess up this page if you don't want me to. Thanks again!OnFire4Jesus (talk) 18:55, 17 December 2008 (UTC)

I guess my first question would be how to get the signature thing to show up at the end of posts. I usually copy/paste and change the date/time and all from my previous posts. Is there a way for it to show up automatically? Just wondering. That has always stumped me... OnFire4Jesus (talk) 13:07, 22 December 2008 (UTC)
Really? It wouldn't show up when I tried that. It's just the four, no ( ) around them, right? {{SUBST:User:OnFire4Jesus/Signature}} 18:22, 23 December 2008 (UTC) that's what it shows up as...
Fabulous! Thank you! Now I've got to think of more questions! OnFire4Jesus (talk) 17:13, 24 December 2008 (UTC)
How can I organize/compress my userboxes so they are not so spread out on my page? And also, I am editing a page where a picture is needed and I can't figure out how to upload it and get it on the page in the infobox. It's a public domain pic, too. How do I get it up?OnFire4Jesus (talk) 20:54, 5 January 2009 (UTC)
Another quick question: how can I can I cite a source? And how do I cite it with the little number link thing? Thanks for helping me out! OnFire4Jesus (talk) 12:52, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Dale Dubin

A tag has been placed on Dale Dubin requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the article or have a copy emailed to you. -- smurdah[citation needed] 21:28, 11 February 2009 (UTC)

As reviewing administrator, I deleted it as nonsense. I find it incredible that an established contributor should have entered and then defended such an article. DGG (talk) 21:40, 11 February 2009 (UTC)
I accept that the book is notable, why not write an article about it. The stuff in the 2nd para, tho, is a classic BLP violation, no matter how well documented, as he is not a public figure and it is not related to his notability. DGG (talk) 00:29, 12 February 2009 (UTC)

Userboxes

I was just wondering how to sort out my userboxes into columns, because mine are all in one long column (and needs a desperate cleanup). Thanks. Nifky? (talk) 07:12, 15 February 2009 (UTC)

Userification of Dale Dubin

You recently took part in this DRV for Dale Dubin. The deletion was upheld and I asked several other admins to userfy the page and its talk page (since it had some citations that weren't in the article), but I got no response. Would you be so kind? - Draeco (talk) 00:51, 25 February 2009 (UTC)

I can't, I'm afraid, as it's a BLP violation. The information DGG and I posted at the DRV is all the non-BLP-violating information there was there. Stifle (talk) 21:51, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
WP:USERFY contains nothing more harsh than "the policy Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons may preclude userfication." (italics mine), but even WP:BLP itself does not support that. I'm requesting this move to improve the article, but how can I do that when I'm forbidden from using the original text and several citations, even within my own userspace? The original deleting admin appeared in the DRV to have actually restored half of the article to the main namespace, so how can my userspace be off limits? Please humor me here. - Draeco (talk) 15:48, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
I really don't think that the content which you don't already have is appropriate for any namespace. But for your records, the cites are:
  1. Dubin, Dale. Rapid Interpretation of EKG's. Cover Publishing; 1972.
  2. "Dale Dubin Sentenced To Five Years," St. Petersburg Times, 7 March 1987.
That's as much as I'm prepared to provide, I'm afraid. Stifle (talk) 16:07, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
There was also a citation on the talk page, which I added while the article itself was deleted and under discussion. Could you provide that one as well? Thanks - Draeco (talk) 16:26, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
"This book has been a best-seller for over 30 years" and is "an essential tool for medical students and junior residents" - Sullivan, Patrick. "Book Review: Rapid Interpretation of EKG's, 6th edition." Canadian Journal of Anesthesia 48:1050 (2001) Stifle (talk) 17:04, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

I wanted to say thanks, and I was looking for your justification because I am having notability issues on other articles and I'd like to know how to better make the argument that something is notable. I personally find the notability guidelines of Wikipedia to be to specific for organizations and companies and not very useful as a measure of notability outside that context. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mckennagene (talkcontribs) 17:06, 1 October 2009 (UTC)
