Hello, Dpotts07, and welcome to Wikipedia! My name is Ian and I work with the Wiki Education Foundation; I help support students who are editing as part of a class assignment.

I hope you enjoy editing here. If you haven't already done so, please check out the student training library, which introduces you to editing and Wikipedia's core principles. You may also want to check out the Teahouse, a community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to helping new users. Below are some resources to help you get started editing.

Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but you removed a speedy deletion tag from Talk:Miriam Menkin, a page you have created yourself. If you believe the page should not be deleted, you may contest the deletion by clicking on the button that says: Contest this speedy deletion which appears inside the speedy deletion notice. This will allow you to make your case on the talk page. Administrators will consider your reasoning before deciding what to do with the page. You are not allowed to remove the speedy deletion request. If you want to make notes for an future article keep the material in your userpapce rather than in article space. Oh wow, I totally misinterpreted what the deletion tag was saying. My mistake, sorry for removing that! David Potts (talk) 02:07, 5 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

I have moved your notes to User:Dpotts07/Miriam Menkin. You can keep them there but not in article talk space. —teb728 t c 05:51, 5 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hi David

It's a really nice start, and I don't think it's too detailed. You probably could leave out the dates of birth of her children unless you discussed the births of her children in the context of the narrative of her life.

Your article could really use some sections. I have included a link to the Editing Biographies handout - take a look at it to get a sense of what sorts of sections you might want to split this into. You might also want to look at some other articles about scientists to see how they're laid out. The second link is to the Editing Wikipedia brochure. You should have gotten a hardcopy of it, but I'm including a link to the pdf just in case. There's a lot of helpful information in there.

Thank you for the reply!! I hope it's not too much of a bother, but I have one more question: should I use images in my article? I have seen a few good images that I could use, but as far as I can tell they do not qualify as free use. I would need to get permission from the copyright holder if I do want to use those images, wouldn't I? Thank you again! {{ping|Ian (Wiki Ed)}} -David Potts (talk) 02:09, 17 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hey

edit

Menkin was the subject of a BBC Future article published today (or yesterday; I work nights and get confused), and I just edited the article using it and afterwards discovered you started it as an educational assignment. Well done, and do please drop by again and edit some more if you haven't already done so under another nick. Yngvadottir (talk) 18:29, 6 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
