Atholl Highlanders

Hello Dormskirk, I am the archivist at Blair Castle and represent the Atholl Highlanders. Thank you for editing our page but I am having some difficulty with text you have deleted. The text has been provided by the Atholl Higlanders themselves and they have asked me to it add to the page. Please can you add the edited information back to the page. If you would like to contact me directly my email is archive@blair-castle.co.uk.

Hi - If you represent the Atholl Highlanders or Blair Castle you have a conflict of interest (see WP:COI) and should not edit the article. Commander UK Strike Force removal of text

Did you check the reference when you removed the detailed list of ships etc regarding the 'Green Eagle' deployment? The list is *fully* cited, though I admit I clearly did not cite the second paragraph which I'll have to re-source before I readd. Please check references more carefully in future.

With the thousands of litres of metaphorical printers' ink which WP editors have spilled over the Royal Navy since the Armada, anything about 'very dated' in regard to anything since 1700 or so sounds a bit hypocritical as well. Regards Buckshot06 (talk) 14:44, 16 March 2020 (UTC)

If you and maybe others believe that the COMUKMARFOR history from 2001-2010 ish is dubious with the Strike Force article, I will split UKMARFOR to reduce the chances that somebody thinks it's dated enough to just remove. Buckshot06 (talk) 14:50, 16 March 2020 (UTC)
Apologies if I removed something I should not have. My intention was really just to clean up the article following the change of name. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 15:34, 16 March 2020 (UTC)

13th Signal History

Can you help work on the history of 13 Signal Regiment (United Kingdom), clean it up further and when was it disbanded exactly?

Thanks

BlueD954 (talk) 05:17, 17 March 2020 (UTC)

I have cleaned it up a bit. It appears to have been disbanded sometime in 1995. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 08:39, 17 March 2020 (UTC)

NHS trust / board navboxes

Hi,

I noticed that you have been editing some navbox templates that I have created for NHS trusts and boards (e.g. Template:Aneurin Bevan University Health Board) by adding the word "hospitals" to the titles, and moving some others from "Template:XXX" to "Template:Hospitals in XXX".

Personally, I do not agree with this. For example, I have added these navboxes to the articles for the trusts/boards, and not just the hospitals, so it is better if the title is just the name of the trust/board as this means it can be used for both trust articles and hospital articles.

Furthermore, some of your moves do not make sense to me from a grammatical point of view. For example, you moved a template I created from Template:NHS Highland to Template:Hospitals in NHS Highland. I don't think this is correct as "NHS Highland" is not a geographical area, but rather an organisation, so the hospitals are not "in" the organisation but rather run by them. Template:NHS Highland hospitals would make more sense, but as I said, since I want to use these templates on the trust articles as well it would be better if they were at Template:NHS Highland.

Please let me know what you think of this.

Best wishes Elshad (talk) 18:18, 19 March 2020 (UTC)

Hi - I actually don't have strong views on this. I am trying to achieve consistency. If you look at "Category:Hospital templates" you will see that the Scottish ones are now all "Hospitals in NHS ...". I don't think it matters as long as we have consistency. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 18:22, 19 March 2020 (UTC)
Thanks for the quick reply. I see what you mean by the original NHS Scotland templates, some of which date back to 2007, and were created by an editor who is no longer active. Since you don't have a strong opinion on this, would you mind if I moved them all to my preferred name, so long as it is consistent? Elshad (talk) 18:29, 19 March 2020 (UTC)
Yes, I am referring to the earlier templates. I am fine for you to change them all to your preferred name. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 18:44, 19 March 2020 (UTC)

Create article on ACNS People Transformation

This person is going to be important for Royal Navy reform. Ought to place him in the Organisation section. What do you think?

See https://issuu.com/navynews/docs/nn_issuu_march_2020 page 21 Rear Admiral Philip Hally.

BlueD954 (talk) 11:42, 31 March 2020 (UTC)

I agree that he is going to be important for naval reform. However he does not hold any of the key posts listed in the Organisation section so my current view is that it would not be appropriate to include him there at this time. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 12:09, 31 March 2020 (UTC)

Check my latest edits both officers holding the post of Navy Secretary and Flag Officer Seat Training have recently retired - links added to their pages/profile. Quite sure based on the Navy News article, RADM Philip Hally has assumed their responsibilities. Create article? BlueD954 (talk) 02:21, 6 April 2020 (UTC)
Yes, I will create one. Thanks. Dormskirk (talk) 07:30, 6 April 2020 (UTC)
See Philip Hally. I now agree with you that as Assistant Chief of the Naval Staff (People Transformation) he should appear in the Organisation section. Many thanks. Dormskirk (talk) 08:29, 6 April 2020 (UTC)
Good one but I don't agree with Colin Mackie that Hally's title is Navy Secretary. He is just ACNS People Transformation but takes upon the responsibilities of FOST and NS.BlueD954 (talk) 13:08, 6 April 2020 (UTC)
I see from Hally's linked in page, he is claiming to be Naval Secretary. See Linked-in. Unfortunately we cannot use that as a source. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 16:30, 6 April 2020 (UTC)
You are correct. BlueD954 (talk) 03:17, 7 April 2020 (UTC)

Yes, I agree. There are plenty of other civil servants we could include here but it would be inappropriate to include them. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 14:18, 7 April 2020 (UTC)

List of Hospitals

Hi, Yeah I would like to help and expand, I am guessing it is more a list of current hospitals rather than ones that have closed, as I did remove the 2 Bristol ones that are now closed, Bristol General and Frenchay. I have found a good source for bed numbers is CQC reports, which tend to list bed numbers by trusts and hospitals, so could add them as references. Mark999 (talk) 20:59, 9 April 2020 (UTC)

Hi - Thanks for that. I confirm that this list is a list of current hospitals. I have been removing defunct ones as I go through the list. I have now removed the London tables in the list as I am convinced the bed numbers there were unreliable. Some Trusts do publish their total bed numbers but do not publish a breakdown and I find that the information in the CQC reports is inconsistent (sometimes they give bed numbers and sometimes they don't). I don't think this list is the right place to insert the bed numbers. It is probably best to focus on inserting reliably sourced bed numbers in the infoboxes of the articles on individual hospitals. Otherwise we are going to have a lot of gaps in the list. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 21:56, 9 April 2020 (UTC)
Fair enough, I am going to try something in my sandbox with South West hospitals and see what you think. Mark999 (talk) 17:06, 11 April 2020 (UTC)
Thanks for that. I think we need to do it for England as a whole and, ideally, for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland as well. The key is obtaining properly sourced bed numbers by hospital and so far I have been unable to find them for the country as a whole. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 17:24, 11 April 2020 (UTC)

Dene Barton Community Hospital

Just in case you care, I have proposed Dene Barton Community Hospital for deletion. As the only one of 12 community hospitals in Somerset to have its own article I don't see what is so special about this one. Either we have none, or we look to create the others. Thoughts? --2A00:23C6:FA04:0:14CA:6231:B479:FD4E (talk) 10:52, 16 April 2020 (UTC)

Normally, I would say that if the hospital has any real history to it then it should be retained. But this one was only established in 2002 and we do not even have a picture of it. So I agree with you. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 10:54, 16 April 2020 (UTC)

James Gordon

Hi Dormskirk. Please see here: [1] Anne (talk) 00:36, 25 April 2020 (UTC)

Hi Dormskirk. I am trying to deal with revisions for the James Gordon page. I have prepared a new paragraph for Military Service and it is in my Sandbox ready to go. As always I have at least two references incorrectly formatted. Would you be kind enough to correct any mistakes I have made and then copy and paste it into the JG page, in place of the paragraph already there? Much appreciated if you would. There's much more to come, but the edit pages do terrify me, so I will have to prepare the next bit in the sandbox too. The link here [2] sates that the 80th Regiment arrived in America in August 1779, so is there any way of including the ‘August’ in the prepared paragraph too, because the newspaper only states 1779? Thank you. Anne (talk) 00:50, 8 May 2020 (UTC)

Hi - Done. I think. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 09:28, 8 May 2020 (UTC)
Thank you very much Dormskirk. Much appreciated. Could you just change the Huntley Express references to read "James Gordon" rather than "Andrew Gordon"?! Otherwise I am pleased to have more detail in there for JG. There is more to follow in Early Life, but I have to find the courage to attempt it. I will put it in my sandbox when ready.Anne (talk) 09:42, 8 May 2020 (UTC)
Done. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 09:44, 8 May 2020 (UTC)
As always I appreciate everything you do to help me. Thank you. Reference 21, (to the Mayo book), has a much better source here: https://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?id=mdp.39015009310916&view=1up&seq=24 All the references to "Mayo", "Samuel Graham" and "Vanderpoel" have far far better sources on the Hathitrust links, which are all listed on Cinderella157's sandbox5, under Source Material. It would be a big job to improve all three reference sources on both the James Gordon and Charles Asgill pages, but if done, then direct links to the passages in question would be immediately visible. Do you feel up to it? It sounds daunting to me, but perhaps not to you? Anne (talk) 10:09, 8 May 2020 (UTC)
I think I have changed all the citations now for those three books although it take a bit of time! Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 10:56, 8 May 2020 (UTC)
Thank you. I am sure anyone looking at the page will appreciate going direct to a full printed version so easily. Anne (talk) 11:02, 8 May 2020 (UTC)

Sorry, but reference [1] doesn't link to page 105! Would be grateful if you could please change.Anne (talk) 11:40, 8 May 2020 (UTC)

Sorted. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 11:57, 8 May 2020 (UTC)
I've done the easy bit, JG's mother. I'd be grateful if you could delete the 'mother' entry completely and replace with what is in my Sandbox please. First, though, there are a couple of other minor amendments listed. What comes later, for the 'father' entry, will not make sense unless those amendments are made. There are too many James Gordons - our one was the Third Laird of Ellon - and final Laird, Anne (talk) 13:27, 8 May 2020 (UTC)
I think I have sorted it. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 13:52, 8 May 2020 (UTC)

Yes, thank you! Just a query on this: We know from The New York Gazette and Weekly Mercury, Monday 20 October 1783 that James Gordon died on 17 October 1783 - two places at top of page need adjusting to include this information don't they? And does JG being the third Laird need this reference? [Huntly Express 7 Dec 1906 https://www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/viewer/bl/0002658/19061207/135/0007#] Anne (talk) 14:45, 8 May 2020 (UTC)

Done. Best wishes, Dormskirk (talk) 14:55, 8 May 2020 (UTC)

Don't you think someone will remove the d.o.d. without the reference I gave? Seems a shame to run that risk to me!Anne (talk) 14:57, 8 May 2020 (UTC)

It was referenced in the main text so it probably would have been OK but I have referenced it anyway. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 15:04, 8 May 2020 (UTC)

Dormskirk, the section on 'Gordon's father' is now ready in my sandbox. It needs to be inserted as the first item on "Early Life". I have temporarily removed everything that was there on the father, to avoid confusion with what comes next. I have prepared it as best I can but know you will titivate where needed. Please note the bit about his father's date of death too. There is more to come, but I can only cope with all this in small bites. The next bit is the final bit. Anne (talk) 16:00, 8 May 2020 (UTC)

I have added it. I hope that's OK. Best wishes, Dormskirk (talk) 16:19, 8 May 2020 (UTC)

My nightmare day is over Dormskirk! The final section is waiting for upload to the main page! Today's edits have been rather "Outlander" haven't they?! My very sincere thanks for all your superb help today. Thank you so much. Anne (talk) 16:47, 8 May 2020 (UTC)

All done, I think. And many thanks for your kind comments. Dormskirk (talk) 17:02, 8 May 2020 (UTC)

BAT has operations in around 180 countries, and its cigarette brands include Dunhill, Kent, Lucky Strike, Pall Mall and Rothmans. BAT’s acquisition of Reynolds American Inc. in 2016 created the world’s largest listed tobacco company.[2] By acquiring Reynolds, BAT also acquired US brands Newport, Camel, and Natural American Spirit. The company does not necessarily own the rights to all of these brands in every nation they are marketed.

BAT manufactures and sells vapour and heated tobacco products, modern oral products, as well as traditional oral products such as snus and moist snuff. Its brands include Vype and Vuse[3] and glo[4].

BAT has a primary listing on the London Stock Exchange and is a constituent of the FTSE 100 Index. It has a secondary listing on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange. BAT plc ordinary shares are also listed on the New York Stock Exchange in the form of American Depositary Shares (“ADSs”).

In March 2020 BAT announced a new commercial direction, focusing on generating “an increasingly greater proportion of [its] revenue from products other than cigarettes.”[5]

Jacques Villeneuve driving for BAR at the 1999 Canadian Grand Prix.

In 1997 BAT brought its participation in the sport to new levels with the purchase of the Tyrrell team for approximately £30 million. The team raced as Tyrrell for the 1998 season before being renamed as British American Racing (BAR).[6]

In 2005 a European Union (EU) directive was brought into force which required national governments to legislate to prevent tobacco sponsorship.[7]

In 2004 BAR announced that technology partner Honda had purchased a 45% stake and in September 2005 it announced that Honda would be buying the remaining 55% stake. The team raced as Honda Racing F1 Team in 2006, the last year of the Lucky Strike sponsorship before leaving the sport. For the 2006 season, the team was renamed as Honda F1 Racing Team, with BAT only advertised at a couple of races. All links between the two companies were severed for 2007.[8]

In 2019 McLaren signed a multi-year deal with British American Tobacco. McLaren's announcement of a "global partnership" with BAT brings the company back into F1 for the first time since Honda succeeded BAR.[9] In late 2019 BAT and McLaren announced the signing of an enhanced partnership deal that saw BAT become a Principal Partner of McLaren for the 2020 Formula 1 season. Thank you,

Harry Neal Ltd.

Hello again Dormskirk, after a gap of seven years. We used to comment on construction history articles.

I saw your reply on Sor William Arrol and will have a look at the early history.

I have published an article on Harry Neal, a one-time prominent London builder. I am happy with the text of the article, largeley sourced from the official history but it is the first tiime I have put in a new article as opposed to editing existing ones and I suspect I have not got all the protocaols right. I notice that it does not come up properly in a search. Would you mind having a look at it for me.

Regards Bebington (talk) 09:22, 23 June 2020 (UTC)

Hi - Good to hear from you. I have tidied the article up a bit. Please remember to add references to every paragraph even if the material is from the same source. I have also added a bit to the Tobacco Dock article so that it mentions Harry Neal Ltd. I hope this helps. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 09:55, 23 June 2020 (UTC)
Many thanks for that. I did wonder about referencing each para but I thought it seemed a bit repetitive. On a point of detail, Harry Neal Ltd was not the developer for the Tobacco Dock, only the contrctor. The actual developer was the the family in the form of a separate company.

But did the atlas claim it is no longer a hospital? See Wikipedia:Reference desk/Language#What's the difference between a hospital medical center and something that only has one of those in its name? 2A00:23C5:E117:6100:31B2:1FA0:395:609 (talk) 12:30, 30 June 2020 (UTC)
I am not sure that I see the point. Atlases do not make claims. I suspect that I simply looked to see what part of London the site was in (it was two years ago). Dormskirk (talk) 12:38, 30 June 2020 (UTC)

Noel Quin, HSBC CEO

Dear Dormskirk,

You may recall that I’ve been in touch in the past because of your interest in the FTSE100. I work for communications advisory firm Brunswick, and I am acting today on behalf of HSBC and their global CEO Noel Quinn. I can see that you helped establish a new entry about Mr. Quinn following his appointment in March. If it is useful to you and the community, I have assembled some further information about him, which might help to add some depth and detail to the entry. I’ve included some suggested citations as well, in case they are helpful.

Noel Quinn is a British banking businessman who is Group Chief Executive of HSBC Holdings plc as of March 2020, having succeeded John Flint.[1] He initially assumed the role on an interim basis in August 2019.[2]

Prior to becoming Group Chief Executive, Quinn was Chief Executive of HSBC’s Global Commercial Banking division from December 2015.[3] He became a Group Managing Director in September 2016.[4] From 2011 to 2015 Quinn was Regional Head of Commercial Banking for Asia-Pacific, based in Hong Kong.[5]

Quinn joined Forward Trust Group, a subsidiary of Midland Bank, in 1987.[6] Midland Bank was acquired by HSBC in 1992. He led HSBC’s acquisitions of Swan National Motor Finance and Eversholt Leasing Ltd, becoming General Manager of each business in turn.[7]

He has since served as Head of Specialised and Equity Finance at HSBC, Group Director of Strategy & Development at HSBC Insurance Services North America, Head of Commercial Finance Europe, and Head of Commercial Banking UK (2008-2011).[8]

I appreciate you and other editors exercise extra caution around bios of living persons, so recognise you may not want to include all of this information, but wanted to provide it so you would have the broadest base of information to choose from.

Please do let me know if you have any questions. And many thanks for considering.

Watford Colloseum

Hi - Thanks for your excellent work on the Watford article some years back. It seems to me that there is enough material on the Watford Colosseum to justify a separate article to encourage expansion. Are you OK if I do that? Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 08:38, 8 July 2020 (UTC)

I don't think there is quite enough information there at the moment to justify a split right now. However, I do think it has enough notability. The appropriate procedure would be to build on Watford#Watford_Colosseum until you have, say, twice what is there at the moment, then split it off to a new article, leaving behind a summary of about half the size that is there now, which would likely be about the same size and content of the lead of the new article you'd create. I'd be happy to help out - and to help tidy up the Watford article, which looks a bit messy and cluttered at the moment, and with an inadequate lead section. SilkTork (talk) 16:36, 8 July 2020 (UTC)

Hipgnosis

Hiya and thanks for all the clean up on Hipgnosis! It's a really cool company (and it really will change the way songwriters get paid). But! Beside the point. I added the key people back in -- I know it doesn't adhere to the format but in this case expanding that section is important - they are songwriters and gatekeepers - they inform the direction of the company - they are the people chanting "equal pay." If that doesn't work feel free to revert (of course). Thanks! Julie 16:14, 9 July 2020 (UTC)JSFarman (talk)

Hi,

Have you reverted all my name change edits?

I am of the opinion that the name should also consider the way people search for the company whether on the Google or Wikipedia.

Should I incorporate it on "Wikipedia:Article titles", or please suggest way to discuss the opinion.

For discussion purpose, who will decide the final name, whether its administrator or general public.

Best regards. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sulaymān Hercules (talkcontribs) 14:54, 14 July 2020 (UTC)

Hi - I have only reverted your changes for Mace (construction company), LVMH and CH2M Hill. I reverted these changes because the new names you had adopted did not seem to comply with WP:COMMONNAME. If you want to propose changes like this you need to comply with WP:RM#CM. This procedure will invite requests for comment, enable a discussion to take place for each of the companies and, ultimately, a consensus will be reached for each one. "Facility"

Hallo, Keswick Museum is on my watch list so I saw your recent work on the page, and that led me to look at The Moot Hall. I see that "facility" is your favoured term to use in the lead sentence - a glimpse at your contributions led me to Morley Town Hall too. I note from your talk page that public buildings are one of your specialities.

I wonder if we can find some other phrasing for these articles, as describing buildings like these as "facilities" doesn't seem to me to contribute much information for the reader, and it conjures up associations with public conveniences. I can see that it's preferable to avoid repeition as in "Keswick Museum is a museum..." but honestly I think that's preferable. The "Morley Town Hall is a grade I listed building ..." would be fine too, though perhaps you avoid that because understanding it requires readers to know about the UK listing system?

Perhaps there's a wider forum where this terminology would be better discussed, like the UK noticeboard? I just thought I'd drop by here first.

Thanks for all your work - the Keswick Museum article certainly had a long legacy of unsourced stuff, especially the detailed chronology added by an IP in 2008, before I started editing it in 2013. It's a great little museum if you're in the area - and I see it reopened last week, without even the need to book. PamD 09:31, 2 August 2020 (UTC)

Thanks for your comments - yes, I also know the Keswick museum well. My preference would certainly be to avoid repetition. An alternative word to "facility" would be "institution" - I don't particularly like it because it has certain connotations in a health context (specifically mental health). Perhaps "public building" might be the best solution. I agree that wider debate would be helpful. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 09:59, 2 August 2020 (UTC)

Miscellaneous

Good morning Dormskirk

I have moved on from building company histories to looking at some of my books on the old trading companies. I have put in new entries on C Czarnikow, James Finlay and a virtual new one on the Harrison Line. I have also added a substantial new section on the 1974 property collapse to the Crown Agents. The Crown Agents article had previously been criticized as ”This article contains content that is written like an advertisement” but I think the main problem was that it totally omitted what was one of the biggest financial scandals of its time. In fact, the early history looks reasonable and it is perhaps the last bit on the Foundation that looks a bit on the promotional side. How would you deal with it now.

The other article I have been looking at is the old plantation company Harrisons & Crosfield, now Elementis. Would you like to have a look at that entry? I am always hesitant about doing a total rewrite of someone else’s work but it not of the highest quality and gives little mention of over 100 years of plantation. I have the official Company history which was published in 1990 and there are accounts filed at Companies House. It would be tortuous synthesizing that into a couple of pages but it could be done. What do you think?

I remain surprised at how many company articles ignore official histories.

Regards Bebington (talk) 10:35, 12 August 2020 (UTC)

Hi - I agree that the history section of the Elementis article could do with some expansion. It already gives some useful information on how the company got into chemicals but it could do with several more paragraphs on the early history. Your new articles look very good: there are a few missing references: don't forget that the minimum requirement is a citation at the end of each paragraph. Best wishes and thanks. Dormskirk (talk) 10:44, 12 August 2020 (UTC)

Thank you.Bebington (talk) 15:50, 12 August 2020 (UTC)

Admiral of the Fleet

Thanks for removing this, I hesitated over its utility but left it there out of soft-heartedness for whoever added it in the first place. This whole history section needs a thorough rewrite, if for no other reason than getting it into some kind of chronological order~ -- Euryalus (talk) 10:56, 25 August 2020 (UTC)

I thought about it carefully as well. My main driver for removing it was the lack of a citation but it also seemed a bit unfair to single out Edward VII for his lack of naval service! Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 11:00, 25 August 2020 (UTC)

File:Bharti Airtel Limited logo.svg

Hi Dormskirk. Why are you adding non-free use rationales to this file’s page. Non-free rationales are only necessary for non-free files and this file is licensed as {{PD-ineligible-USonly}}. Public domain files don’t require a non-free use rationale because their usage isn’t subject to Wikipedia’s non-free content use policy. Are you trying to claim that the updated version of the file that you uploaded is protected by copyright? — Marchjuly (talk) 10:34, 27 August 2020 (UTC)

Hi - If you don't think a non-free use rationale is necessary please feel free to remove it. I was responding to a bot which had removed the logo from the Airtel Africa on the basis that it was a WP:NFCC violation(s). The bot seemed to require an additional rationale specific to Airtel Africa so I added one. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 10:47, 27 August 2020 (UTC)
The bot flagged the file for violations of WP:NFCC#10c because you replaced the {{information}} template with a non-free use rationale when you updated the file. The created a conflict because the bot sees both a PD license and a non-free use rationale, and doesn’t know which is “correct”. If you think the file is too complex to be ineligible for copyright protection, then that’s OK; you should, however, replace the current license with a non-free one instead. If you’re not sure, then you can ask at WP:MCQ.Marchjuly (talk) 11:15, 27 August 2020 (UTC)
I am not sure what you are proposing but please feel free to go ahead and resolve the issue if you don't think my attempt is adequate. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 11:19, 27 August 2020 (UTC)
I’m not proposing anything. I’m trying to figure out why you replaced the “Information” template with a non-free use rationale when you updated the file. Was there a specific reason that you did that? The bot only started removing the file from articles because you made that change and I’m just trying to understand why. If you just did it by mistake, then that’s OK and your edits can be undone. If you did it for a specific reason, then it would help sort things out if you could clarify what that was.Marchjuly (talk) 13:29, 27 August 2020 (UTC)
As already explained the bot seemed to require an additional rationale specific to Airtel Africa so I added one. It was not a mistake...I did exactly as the bot requested. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 13:35, 27 August 2020 (
My sincerest apologies. You weren’t the editor who added the first non-free use rationale to the file’s page, which is the thing that created this mess and caused the bot to start removing files. I’ve stricken a few of my above posts. I’m really sorry about the mix up. — Marchjuly (talk) 13:56, 27 August 2020 (UTC)
No problem. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 13:58, 27 August 2020 (UTC)

The user Marked4life seems to be adding many senior officers without stating 1) are they really given letters of appointment by the queen; 2) Are these appointments like service secretaries - he makes mistakes, and deputies to the main services significant to list? 3) Note even sure if just OF-8s get the letters, what about OF6s,? 4) What is the point listing like Commander, Joint Helicopter Command? Might as well list division commanders and AOCs. 4) What about joint/NATO officers like Deputy SACEUR?

What are your thoughts? Would you defend?

Simon Roberts

Dear Dormskirk,

My name is Sophie and I work in the communications team at Sainsbury’s. You may recall that I’ve been in touch in the past about our then CEO. I wanted to see if you would consider some factual updates to the entry for Simon Roberts, our new CEO. I’m aware of Wikipedia’s COI rules, and so I wanted to ask for some help in reviewing this page as it could do with being fleshed out a bit. I wanted to make some suggestions to beef up the biographical section and I'd be incredibly grateful if you could please review the entry and consider my suggestions. To flesh out Simon’s entry, I have listed some suggested changes and included citations in case that’s helpful:

  • ‘Upon becoming CEO, Simon Roberts made two senior appointments to Sainsbury’s operating board, making Clo Moriarty, previously Chief Digital Director, Retail and Digital Director and promoting Chief Marketing Officer Mark Given to the operating board.’ Sources for this include these articles in the Daily Mail, Retail Week and The Grocer.
  • ‘Simon moved quickly to prioritise diversity in hiring’ Source here in Retail Week
  • ‘and he is continuing Sainsbury’s and Argos’s digital strategy, which includes the discontinuation of the Argos catalogue in July 2020.’ Sources include the Mirror, Metro and the Sun
  • ‘During the coronavirus pandemic, Sainsbury’s has reached milestones including doubling the number of online grocery delivery slots to 700,000 in October 2020.’ Sources include Daily Mail and Reuters

Please let me know if you have any questions. Many thanks. SPraill (talk) 09:42, 6 October 2020 (UTC)

I am not close enough to this issue. It seems to rest around whether the section is describing the "Field Army restructuring in July or August 2019" or "Field Army restructuring in September 2020". I am not sure of the benefits of either date. Are we trying to keep this article constantly updated in real time? Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 08:28, 19 October 2020 (UTC)
Yes. "Future of the British Army" cannot stop at 2019 for sure. In fact there's this page List of units and formations of the British Army 2020. BlueD954 (talk) 09:34, 19 October 2020 (UTC)

The London Regiment

A user removed the higher commands in the article the London Regiment (1993). Is it under 11th Infantry Brigade or the London District as per this [7] ? Do you think the 'Part of' part should include 11th Infantry Brigade - the reference in the article don't specifically state so.

Your thoughts?

BlueD954 (talk) 02:57, 28 October 2020 (UTC)

Hi - Based on [8], it does appear that it is part of London District. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 09:15, 28 October 2020 (UTC)

Help with merger process

Apologies for spamming, but I would like to propose a merger between British Army Structure In 2010 and Army 2020 added rationale in talk pages. But did I add the right banners for the process and talk pages? Thanks for your help in advance. BlueD954 (talk) 04:17, 29 October 2020 (UTC)

Now cleaned up a bit. I agree with the proposal. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 09:50, 29 October 2020 (UTC)
Thank you so much. I made a PROD for it but that was swiftly removed hours before the dateline and the user who removed it and renamed the article made no attempt to improve it. BlueD954 (talk) 10:50, 29 October 2020 (UTC)

Did I make a mistake in my request to move?

I made this request Talk:Future_of_the_British_Army#Requested_move_31_October_2020 but I don't see a notification on the article - or do I have to wait? Thanks.

Thanks for the fix. BlueD954 (talk) 09:19, 31 October 2020 (UTC)
I think you got it right in the first place. It just takes a bit of time. best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 09:21, 31 October 2020 (UTC)

Bradford & Bingley

Hello.

Other than very recent events, and issues, there was no real history for this Society, nor for Bingley B.S. or Bradford Equitable B.S. I have put in some historical content but I have a problem with the article heading for what is shown as Bingley Permanent B.S. You can see the explanation on the Bingley Talk Page. I don't know how to change a main page heading - could you look at it?

Incidentally, the more recent material could do with some editing and elimination of material of minor importance.

Regards Bebington (talk) 17:08, 2 November 2020 (UTC)

I have moved the article to "Bingley Building Society" as requested. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 17:20, 2 November 2020 (UTC)

Royal Marines Lists and today's London Gazette

I started List of serving senior officers of the Royal Marines. Can you check? I copied from List of serving senior officers of the Royal Navy and I don't know how to remove the (unnecessary) column 'Designation' without messing up the article - can you help?

Also here's today's promotions and resignations - https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/63170/supplement/19045 - any senior officer you wish to create?

Thank You. BlueD954 (talk) 14:03, 10 November 2020 (UTC)

Building Societies

Good Morning

I have moved on to the history section of Building Societies and it is striking how little early history is included in the articles. One might find the best part of 150 years of existence is summarized in a line or two, followed by lengthy sections on demutualization or one-off contemporary issues. Much of this tends to be referenced to internet citations from news media. There is rarely any use of the range of company histories that are available.

I am slowly working my way through the alphabet and put in early history sections for four societies – you can see the list of these from my home page. I am currently reading the Coventry Building Society History and if you look at that article you will see what I mean – the first hundred years in six lines.

These ae just general observations but I have one specific query. The Bradford Equitable B.S. has a banner saying this article does not cite any sources. I am not an administrator but I now think it is now more adequately sourced – if you want to get rid of the banner.

Regards Bebington (talk) 10:55, 14 November 2020 (UTC)

I have removed the banner. Thanks. Dormskirk (talk) 11:11, 14 November 2020 (UTC)

Ramsbury Building Society

Hello

I have created a new article on the Ramsbury, fully sourced from the official history up to 1981 and then with limited data from the BSA mergers list, also cited and with its limitations noted in the text. Someoone has put in a big panel saying citations needed and it looks as if he is an editor. Could you have a look at it please.

Regards Bebington (talk) 14:40, 22 January 2021 (UTC)

Hi - I would suggest you add some extra citations, possibly at the end of each sentence. You might also draw on a broader range of sources rather than just depending on three sources. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 14:47, 22 January 2021 (UTC)

I can repeat the same source if necessary but that seems artificial. There is very little material available on the early history of these building societies and the Ramsbury history is particulary well sourced. I am not sure why it needs to be repeated.

Regards Bebington (talk) 16:12, 22 January 2021 (UTC)

I think that is probably what is expected but feel free to contact the editor who added the tag if you are in any doubt. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 16:40, 22 January 2021 (UTC)

Help performing a merger

Hi, [10] has closed with 'Agree to merging of article(s) as per CONSENSUS.'

But I'm not sure how to perform the merger of British Army Structure In 2010 into Army_2020#Background.

I read Wikipedia:Merging#Step_5:_Perform_the_merger but still confused. Can you help perform the merger? Thanks. BlueD954 (talk) 03:33, 4 December 2020 (UTC)

It is just a matter of moving what material needs to be retained from British Army Structure In 2010 and copying it into Army_2020#Background. I suspect there will be very little. It will need a line by line review of British Army Structure In 2010 to identify any useful material; after transferring the material you then blank British Army Structure In 2010. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 07:42, 4 December 2020 (UTC)
I don't see any need for material in British Army Structure In 2010 to be retained; do I blank the whole article and redirect? BlueD954 (talk) 09:06, 4 December 2020 (UTC)
yes, if there is nothing to be retained, just do that. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 10:32, 4 December 2020 (UTC)

Request edits

Hi, I was reading through Sir Charles Asgill, 2nd Baronet and you mentioned an admin sanctioning for responding to edit requests without giving other editors time to comment. This sounded very unusual to me, considering the huge backlog at Template:Request edit and the lack of editors that respond to these requests, which causes me to implement or decline edits independently because of the lack of editors in this area. I don't mean to bring up old problems, but can you link to the discussion, or send me an email with a link if you don't want to post it here? I hope you feel confident in responding to requests again to help clear that backlog. Z1720 (talk) 15:48, 12 December 2020 (UTC)

Hi - Thanks for your interest. I was not actually sanctioned - my concern is that I would be sanctioned if I do it again. To be precise and quoting from Talk:Sir Charles Asgill, 2nd Baronet "I have recently taken some flak from an admin for implementing an edit request pinged at me which was also well presented and factual...And I do not wish to be sanctioned for my second offence of responding to edit requests when other editors may wish to comment / edit the text".
The flak I refer to was at Talk:BP#PAID editing. The conflicted editor had pinged me asking me to add some comments about some environmental initiatives. My view was that the requests "were well presented and factual" and I added them. However, I was accused by the admin of allowing the conflicted editor "to write the content". The admin explained that [rather than the editor pinging me / me responding to the ping], the editor "should use the "request edit" template so that others see the request. That's how it normally works." [The implication presumably being that the request needs to get to the top of the list before it is responded to]. When I tried to raise a related environmental issue (regarding a different company) with the same admin (see User talk:SlimVirgin#Environmental issues again), explaining that "My direction of travel remains that the efforts of companies that do really good things for the environment should be recognised", another admin jumped in quoting me on a different page and stating that my foregoing view was "the very opposite of WP:NPOV, destructive of the purpose of an encyclopedia, turning it into a publication like Charity Navigator". (see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Impax Asset Management Group).
I have been careful above simply to state the facts of the case. That said I am really quite troubled by all this - my main interest is in content writing and while I have taken great pleasure in responding to numerous edit requests in the past (and there is a large backlog) it is becoming really unpleasant. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 16:40, 12 December 2020 (UTC)
Hi Dormskirk, I read through the exchange at BP and Slim's talk page. I sympathise with the perspectives expressed, although I don't agree with all the comments left by various editors. I have also noticed AfDs where sources describing good works are given less weight by some editors (but I do not want to express an opinion on that matter here). If you want a second opinion on a request edit, feel free to ping me (although I think you have way more experience than me, so maybe I should be pinging you :P). I hope that we can make this area more pleasant and inviting for editors, and I hope you return to evaluating requests when you are ready. Z1720 (talk) 18:20, 12 December 2020 (UTC)
That's very kind, thanks. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 18:24, 12 December 2020 (UTC)
For what it's worth, I don't think "The implication presumably being that the request needs to get to the top of the list before it is responded to" is actually the implication. Most queues on Wikipedia aren't dealt with in strict order, and I'm not aware that edit requests are an exception. If they were dealt with in order, a particularly complex request at the front of the queue could hold up many simpler requests. You should feel free to respond to edit requests wherever they stand in the queue. Cordless Larry (talk) 21:07, 12 December 2020 (UTC)
OK. Thanks for that. The implication is nevertheless that I responded too soon: the complaint was that I made the edit "just over one hour later" and I am now unclear as to what the minimum waiting time is. Since this episode occurred I have been avoiding this whole process. I am not surprised there is a huge backlog of conflicted editors seeking help. Best wishes. Many edits

Hi Dormskirk. You know I always appreciate your extensive hard work on List of city and town halls in the United Kingdom, but do you think you could combine small edits in one so as not to make about a hundred? You could always short-term save the code onto a Word doc if you think it might take a few hours to go through. It's just completely congested my watchlist today. Roger Hollis

Hello Dormskirk, I'm a little concerned that recent changes to the Roger Hollis page and other associated pages are being changed to suit a editor's own view, see Peter K Burian (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log). I'm not a great fan of Harry Chapman Pincher, but is final book on the subject does present some new evidence worth considering, rather that what currently appears to be establishment views. Regards and a Happy New Year. David, David J Johnson (talk) 17:18, 31 December 2020 (UTC)

Noted but I cannot say I have strong views on this. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 17:25, 31 December 2020 (UTC)
I'm finding problems with the article, and @David J Johnson: is partly to cause. With this[11], this[12], and this[13] edits I removed things that the references do not say. The last of which was added[14] by David. Pincher's book is located here[15] and I checked it. There was no such thing on page 241....William, is the complaint department really on the roof? 18:08, 31 December 2020 (UTC)
Again, noted. Such material certainly does need to be properly sourced. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 18:38, 31 December 2020 (UTC)
I saw your edit here[16]. The part you removed mentioned the Manhattan Project. Manhattan isn't even mentioned one time in Wright's book. After finding four things referenced in the article when the references say no such thing, I wonder how much of it is fiction....William, is the complaint department really on the roof? 18:52, 31 December 2020 (UTC)
I am not sure what you mean by "is the complaint department on the roof?" Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 18:57, 31 December 2020 (UTC)
That's just part of my signature. My maternal Grandfather used to use that expression....William, is the complaint department really on the roof? 18:59, 31 December 2020 (UTC)
BTW, I just discovered you are the editor who added[17] the Manhattan mention to the article and the reference that said it came from Wright's book....William, is the complaint department really on the roof? 19:17, 31 December 2020 (UTC)
I can only assuming I was reading a different edition of the book - it would have been online. But my view remains that if it cannot be properly referenced it should be removed. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 19:22, 31 December 2020 (UTC)
My sincere apologies if I have muddied the waters, but there does appear to be different versions of Pincher's book. David J Johnson (talk) 12:55, 1 January 2021 (UTC)

Hello. I have reverted your edit to Northwick Park Hospital. I totally understand the confusion with this page but consensus has not been met on the talk page to make this change to my edit. You also did not provide any sources to counter the three I provided.

Crown Agents

Happy New Year

Could you look at the entry on the Crown Agents. A few weeks ago I put in a section on the Crown Agents' role in the 1974 financial Crisis, when it was one of the high profile collapses. On January 2nd the whole of this was deleted on the grounds that it was not part of the existing organisation. In effect, this is saying that if you change the name and the legal structure, you can whitewash any uncomfotable history.

I cannot see any evidence of other contributions and I assume that this is someone connected to the Crown Agents who is trying to sanitise the history of the Crown Agents. Incidentally, the last paragraph of what remains of the history still refers to "The Property Collapse Below" !

Regards Bebington (talk) 15:49, 4 January 2021 (UTC)

Hi - I have put it in date order and tidied it up a bit: I agree that history should not be whitewashed. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 16:27, 4 January 2021 (UTC)

Many thanks. I never touched the rest of the article but I did thin it could do with some tidying up.

Draft review

Hi Dormskirk. I was wondering if you would be willing to weigh in on whether this draft is better than the current BitFlyer page. The COI draft was implemented by one editor, then most of the page was deleted by another. As a result, I am unclear on next steps for improving the page while following WP:COI. Thank you! Hi - As another experienced editor is already involved (User:JzG), I will defer to him on this. Best wishes, Dormskirk (talk) 17:29, 26 January 2021 (UTC)

quandary

your advice - in oz/strylia we have heritage listed items tagged on talk pages with 'historic sites' project - as we have no significant locally grown project that captures the significance of heritage listed items. It is noted that the very us bias doesnt preclude their also having other projects in the us sibject arearelated to heritage listings. Do you think it is innapropriate (on my part) to add the item onto uk and edinburgh heritage properties and categories ? I would clearly understand an argument to not include, just curious how you might look at it - I would gladly revert myself if their is an adverse reaction... I havein the past seen that edinburgh items are at times neglected - thanks for whatever you might be doing to improve... JarrahTree 10:08, 29 January 2021 (UTC)

I personally would not have a problem with this, especially if the tag was on the talk page. In the UK heritage buildings are usually easily identified because they are listed buildings so this is not so much of an issue here. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 10:28, 29 January 2021 (UTC)
Thanks for that - appreciate the response. When I was in Edinburgh some years ago I didnt get much more than the library vicinity - now I realise some of the streets that I walked almost every building is listed! Thanks again. JarrahTree 10:36, 29 January 2021 (UTC)

Thankyou. Good quick work. Do watch the internal railway lines in your head, though: not Air Officer Commanding, whether of UK or RAF Space Command, but "Commander, United Kingdom Space Command." Cheers Buckshot06 (talk) 16:38, 2 February 2021 (UTC)

Thanks for that Reference No.. I don't yet know how to add one to an Edit. 79.73.43.219 ([[User talk:79.73.43.219|talk]]) 18:23, 4 February 2021 (UTC)

Architects of civic offices in Central Milton Keynes

I reverted your addition of the architects of the civic offices from Milton Keynes as excessively detailed for that article. If you want to pursue it, then maybe you could start a new section at Central Milton Keynes on the architecture? The architects of Milton Keynes Theatre are given in that article. For MK Gallery, they are given in footnote 18 at Central Milton Keynes#Theatre and municipal art gallery. Skyscraperpage.com says that the architects for Xscape were FaulknerBrowns. Other notable buildings include the Law Courts, the original Shopping Building (listed G2), the bus station (listed G2), the railway station, Quadrant:MK and, for prize-winning cheap'n'nasty spec building, The Hub. Hours of family fun! --John Maynard Friedman (talk) 12:27, 8 February 2021 (UTC) I see you have already moved it, thank you. To my eye, in that position, it looks like linkspam, but you have been an editor long enough to know how best to do these things. --John Maynard Friedman (talk) 12:30, 8 February 2021 (UTC)

Hi - It seems to me that, as the democratic heart of the new town, it is an important building with a distinctive design. I am happy to have moved the text: if you feel it could be moved to a better place, then please feel free to move it again. Thanks. Dormskirk (talk) 12:44, 8 February 2021 (UTC)

Maj Gen Edward Willis CB CMG (Further information)

Dear Dormskirk:

I am Garrett John Hickey (present US equity options trader) and former historian at Trinity College (Dublin), with a special interest in Irish or South African related army, aviation or naval matters.

IRISH in BRITISH AVIATION before 1943

In 2017, I updated the Pilots and Crew sections of websites relating to Irish staff in Imperial Airways (predecessor to BA and BOAC).

Jack Sheppard - - I found significant information relating to Senior Pilot Capt John ['Jack'] Sheppard (1899 - 1982), an Irishman who was in charge of the Imperial Airways Flying Boat squadron of aircraft during the 1930's and 1940's. (He was also my father-in-law!).

Edward Willis - - Another relation (by marriage) was Major General Edward Willis CB CMG (1870 - 1961) of the Royal Artillery. There is an excellent "wiki" site, edited by you, covering this person.

However, it ignores Augusta Barlow, his first wife (1881 - 1924), who was the mother of his son John Willis MC (1908 - 1965). She was a Barlow from Lancashire (hence the mill connection) who died in 1924.

FYI, her brother Ernest Barlow emigrated to South Africa in 1907 and (with his wife Kate) founded the Barlow Rand conglomerate, now South Africa's second largest company.

Call me on 087 24 25 570 with queries.

Best

Suggested updates for British Land article

Hi, I’m Eloise and I work in the communications team at British Land. I noticed you recently made edits to the British Land Wikipedia article, and wanted to flag that there are several areas that are out of date or no longer factually correct. It would be great if you could take a look at the updates I've drafted and tell me what you think. My go at the draft is below:

(PROPOSED TEXT MOVED TO Talk:British Land)

Look forward to hearing from you. Thank you, Eloise Eh272021 (talk) 14:38, 18 February 2021 (UTC)

Hi - For many years I used to help conflicted editors, providing the material they wrote was well presented and factual. Since October 2020, I have decided not to respond to edit requests as the whole area is toxic. I see there are currently some 200 requests waiting to be reviewed, so it appears that other experienced editors may have opted out of providing help as well. I suggest that you use the {{request edit}} template. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 10:35, 27 December 2020 (UTC)
