Update Wikipedia entry: Official: Australian Fabians edit

Hi Donama

Can you update me on the verification process to be adopted with regard to our entry.

Pauline Gambley National Secretary Australian Fabians Inc. — Preceding unsigned comment added by PVGOzFab (talkcontribs) 01:27, 20 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

(Presumably regarding "Australian Fabians")... You can go ahead and edit/remove anything that is incorrect. In theory every piece of information should be cited and thus verifiable by some secondary or tertiary source. In practice, uncontroversial information is often added and no reference is cited, but this kind of information may be challenged by yourself or any other editor. Hope that answers your question. Cheers, Donama (talk) 01:55, 20 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Autopatrolled edit

Hello, this is just to let you know that I have granted you the "autopatrolled" permission. This won't affect your editing, it just automatically marks any page you create as patrolled, benefiting new page patrollers. Please remember:

  • This permission does not give you any special status or authority
  • Submission of inappropriate material may lead to its removal
  • You may wish to display the {{Autopatrolled}} top icon and/or the {{User wikipedia/autopatrolled}} userbox on your user page
  • If, for any reason, you decide you do not want the permission, let me know and I can remove it
If you have any questions about the permission, don't hesitate to ask. Otherwise, happy editing!HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 03:38, 28 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, HJ. Cheers Donama (talk) 04:23, 28 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Pitjantjatjara People edit

As you requested (3 Feb) I've added a reference to support my statement at Pitjantjatjara people that loss of one of two identical adjacent syllables (ie haplology) occurs within the language name 'Pitjantjatjara'. It likewise occurs in 'Yankunytjatjara' so I might add the comment there as well. Within Pitjantjatjara (and indeed all Western Desert Language varieties) this *is* pronouncing it properly. cheers Dougg (talk) 05:28, 23 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

I do not know you already have an account or even if it would be useful to you when researching articles or verifying references, but you may want to sign up for one of the free Credo accounts. Australian Aborigines population statistics edit

Regarding your question on Australian Aborigines, see the latest (2008) ABS publication on Indigenous Australians. Donama (talk) 08:02, 12 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

Thank you! What about other earlier census data(1930s,1940s,1950s,1960s,1970s,1980s,1990s etc) for Australian Aborigines?--Kaiyr (talk) 08:25, 12 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
I've no idea. I don't even know if an ethnic breakdown was collected in the census as back as far as 1930. Indigenous Australians#Demographics section might be a good primer for your search. Donama (talk) 23:53, 12 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

Adelaide City Centre street names edit

  • You wouldn't happen to have a supporting reference for "Hack Street" would you? (I couldn't find anything)
  • Is Stephens Place the only thing named after Stephens?
  • "Barton Terrace in North Adelaide was also named after John Barton Hack." - Is that useful as a footnote?

Thanks for filling in all those gaps! Most appreciated. Pdfpdf (talk) 02:28, 22 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

1. No supporting reference that Hack St, North Adelaide is named after John Barton Hack but it is right there adjacent to Barton Tce West so I have made an assumption. If I am wrong, it doesn't still doesn't affect the content of the Street names section I think.
I agree. Pdfpdf (talk) 03:29, 22 September 2011 (UTC)Reply
2. Catherine Spence seems to think that both Stephens Pl, Stephens St (in southeast quadrant) are named after Edward Stephens the banker, as well as an obscure Stephens St in North Adelaide. See [1] and search on page 34 for Stephens.
3. Yep, Barton Tce named after John Barton Hack, but Strangways Tce named after Strangways too. Need we mention all the North Adelaide namings?
No, I don't think we need to mention North Adelaide namings in any detail in this article. (Maybe in the North Adelaide article, but not in Adelaide city centre article). Cheers, Pdfpdf (talk) 03:29, 22 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Rob Roy Hotel edit

The article Rob Roy Hotel has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Disambiguation page where all the links are to articles that do not exist. No blue links at all.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Jay Weatherill sketch edit

Hey, good to see you editing SA again. Normally I do prefer an accurate sketch rather than no image, but can I ask, where the sketch came from? I'm hoping it isn't you and i'm causing offense, but it really doesn't look anything like him... Timeshift (talk) 05:14, 2 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Sorry but it was me and regret it doesn't look terribly like him. It was done pretty quickly with a mouse rather than tablet. Still, I always contend that a rough sketch is better than nothing for someone in public office though. If you click through to the image on commons you can see the non-free reference image. I've since seen other reference images that would be much easier to sketch. Donama (talk) 05:28, 2 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
Ahh, now I see the source, it does bear clear resemblance, and I guess with sketching by mouse rather than hand, it would be harder. I think its that the nose and mouth don't bear a lot of resemblance and lack of facial detail (as you would get with mouse sketching) that puts me off. Sorry if I did offend you. Timeshift (talk) 05:36, 2 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
Well I shall have to try and do a better one when I've time. I got away with it in the Alex Gallacher article. You might want to vet that one too. Donama (talk) 06:53, 2 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
I'd already seen that previously. I'm not trying to insult your work, I just think if a sketch is to be used on an encycopedia then it should be very high quality. Timeshift (talk) 08:33, 2 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Template:Adelaide CBD Streets edit

Great work on the template! A very useful addition. I'm wondering if you haven't you got 'Lattitudinal' and 'Longitudinal' wrong? Lines of Lattitude are parallel to the Equator, like North and South Terrace. Lines of Longitude are perpendicular to the equator, like West and East Terrace. I'm expirementing with using {{navbox with columns}} to see if I can't get the paired streets (Hindley/Rundle) organized better. I haven't found anything that I really like just yet, but have a look at User:YBG/Sandbox. YBG (talk) 06:41, 28 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

I probably do have them the wrong way round. For some reason I cannot seem to remember which is which. I agree with you anyway. Pleased to see you experimenting. Donama (talk) 09:35, 28 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
I always remember that the longitude lines are all equally long, and longer than any of the latitude lines except for the equator. YBG (talk) 02:57, 29 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Here's a permallink to my sandbox. This was the last sandbox version I tweaked before moving the discussion to the template talk page. I left it around on my sandbox for quite a while longer (without making any changes) before finally deleting it. YBG (talk) 01:59, 24 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

Credo Reference Update & Survey (your opinion requested) edit

Credo Reference, who generously donated 400 free Credo 250 research accounts to Wikipedia editors over the past two years, has offered to expand the program to include 100 additional reference resources. Credo wants Wikipedia editors to select which resources they want most. So, we put together a quick survey to do that:

It also asks some basic questions about what you like about the Credo program and what you might want to improve.

At this time only the initial 400 editors have accounts, but even if you do not have an account, you still might want to weigh in on which resources would be most valuable for the community (for example, through WikiProject Resource Exchange).

Also, if you have an account but no longer want to use it, please leave me a note so another editor can take your spot.

If you have any other questions or comments, drop by my talk page or email me at wikiocaasi@yahoo.com. Cheers! Ocaasi t | c 17:14, 11 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

Template:Northern Areas Council localities edit

Hi Donama, I have the following comments re your edit of the above article which I recently created. The list of localities/suburbs (not called "towns" anymore) was compiled by looking at both Nature Maps and Location Browser (PLB). Both NatureMaps and PLB show Appila to be located within both the District Council of Mount Remarkable and Northern Areas Council areas. You replicate this result by doing the following in NatureMaps - select layers for "Administrative Boundaries">"Admistrative">"LGAs" and "Suburbs" and the following in PLB - doing a search for "Appila, LOCB", then click map icon and open "suburbs and localities" sub-menu where "show on screen" needs to be clicked and then zoom out to where LGA boundaries are clearly visible. The "Property Location Browser Report" for Appila (prepared by searching for "Appila (LOCB)" and clicking the map marker and opening the "Place Names (Gazetteer)" sub-menu and selecting/saving as a PDF) states the following:

Town surveyed in August 1872. Originally proclaimed as Yarrowie on 5/10/1872 and altered to Appila in Nomenclature Committee's Second Report dated 7/11/1916. Alteration agreed to by DC Port Germein on 28/10/1940 and formalised 20/2/1941. Boundaries created in March 1997 for the portion within DC Mount Remarkable. Portion added for area within Northern Areas Council in April 2001. Portions of Caltowie North, Hornsdale and Tarcowie excluded and added to Appila in November 2008. Incorporates the Government Town of Appila.

The bolded sentence above in my view supports what I found graphically on both NatureMaps and PLB. Materials such as maps published by the Northern Areas Council do not include Appila while the Council's Development Plan shows Appila as being within its jurisdiction on pages 10,153, 154 and 244, i.e. the locality name either overlaps the LGA boundary or is within the LGA boundary. Please reply here. Regards Cowdy001 (talk) 01:21, 18 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hi Cowdy. I happily accept your research into this. I did check in the PLB but checked the town boundary instead of the suburb boundary. My bad. Please reverse my edit if you didn't already. I think though that the use of the NAC template on the Appila article is probably unnecessary still. Donama (talk) 02:49, 18 November 2015 (UTC)Reply
