Front Mission 5 Information

Walter does not start as a Marine when he enlists in the U.S.N. Army. He is a part of the 214th Movement Squadron in the U.S.N. Army stationed in Huffman Island, first as Infantry before being promoted to Wanzer Pilot. Until Randy's death, he is a part of the U.S.N. Army and not a Marine. It is only when he is in the Strike Wyverns Armored Marine unit that he officially is a Marine. When Walter is in the Barguest SOCOM Anti-Terrorism unit, he is no longer a Marine but an Anti-Terrorism Officer. By the end of the game, Walter returns to the Strike Wyverns and regains his status as a Marine. He leaves the Strike Wyverns by 2121 and returns to the regular U.S.N. Army as the commander of Fort Monus Base.

Randy starts off the same as Walter; both served the regular U.S.N. Army as Infantry and as a Wanzer Pilot later on. He never joins the U.S.N. Marines because he's obviously killed by Glen. Lynn and Edward started off the same way: both enlisted in the regular U.S.N. Army before they were assigned posts to the Strike Wyverns and officially could be considered as U.S.N. Marines. In past Front Missions, no one ever enlists in specialized units such as the U.S.N. Marines and characters always enlists in the main armies first before being assigned to where they belong. Realistically, most people who enlist aren't immediately assigned to special units.

Basically, the Marines portion of Front Mission 5 applies only to the Strike Wyverns unit and nothing else. Emir is disappointed because the U.S.N. Army wants to use M.I.D.A.S. as a weapon, which was something documented during an e-mail message in Front Mission 3(see Network Transcript at GameFAQs). Emir is pleased that the U.S.N. Marines(Strike Wyverns) arrived as backup when the Barguest are having difficulty fending off the Grimunir. The U.S.N. Marines don't even know about M.I.D.A.S. until Lynn and the Strike Wyverns were deployed to Alaska. The heads of the U.S.N. Army knew about M.I.D.A.S. and the Barguest knew because of their status at the top of the U.S.N. Army food chain.

I admire someone else trying to detail what happens in Front Mission 5, but I'm going by official data from the Japan-only Front Mission: World Historica artbook apart from my own personal understanding from translating what was said in the game. I will be changing those minor details so they reflect Front Mission history and make more sense.
