Please do not add promotional material to Wikipedia. While objective prose about beliefs, products or services is acceptable, Wikipedia is not intended to be a vehicle for soapboxing, advertising or promotion. Thank you. Mean as custard (talk) 11:29, 19 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Please do not remove maintenance templates from pages on Wikipedia, as you did to Colombo Institute of Research & Psychology, without resolving the problem that the template refers to, or giving a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. Your removal of this template does not appear constructive, and has been reverted. Thank you. -- dsprc [talk] 04:38, 20 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Namaste. We seem to have a content dispute. Could you explain your policy or guideline rationale for reverting this edit and reintroducing the material? A lot of your additions are promotional and not suitable for an encyclopedia. I also notice that Mean as custard removed much of the information as well, citing similar concerns as myself. Please note that we work by consensus here - which is often achieved through discussion. However much you believe there must be a coat of arms, you will see that other educational institutions lack this information (because it is unnecessary and unwanted) for example: Harvard University, New York University, University of Helsinki, Peking University and so forth all lack such information. If you do not respond or provide a rationale or compelling policy reason why it should be included in this article, even though it is absent from all others, I will assume you have no reason which complies with our Guidelines and I will simply remove the information and ask that you not reintroduce it. Thank you. -- dsprc [talk] 05:50, 20 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

I assume that refers to the maintenance templates. Let me explain the various issues:
  • "appears to be written like an advertisement" - with claims such as "it has become the leading degree-granting institute in Sri Lanka for Psychology education" (unreferenced), a section on what it inteds to do instead of what it has done, and vacuous phrases such as "gives deeper knowledge in the respected area of Psychology studies", that's not much of a surprise. The article should neutrally summarize what reliable sources have said about the institution, and give facts, not promotional soundbites. (It was even worse before Mean as custard removed some of the hype.)
  • "has an unclear citation style" - see WP:Referencing for beginners on how to easily create nicely-formatted footnotes, and make sure that for all of the content it's clear what source it's based on.
  • "its sources remain unclear because it lacks inline citations" - that actually seems to have been addressed, and all references are cited inline - but much of the content doesn't cite any sources at all. See above, see the next issue. I'll remove this one, though.
  • "needs additional citations for verification" - again, sections without sources.
  • "is an orphan, as no other articles link to it" - that's a comparatively minor issue, and the explanation is straightforward. If other articles mention the Colombo Institute of Research & Psychology, they should also link to it to more fully integrate that article into the rest of the encyclopedia.
I hope that helps. Huon (talk) 20:14, 20 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
