why confuse our selves with the square root of 4 and the square roots of 4? is the question the square root of 4 is wrong ? the question should be the square roots of 4. i am a math teacher. thank you

Yes, 4 has two square roots, like any other number except 0. However the expression "the square root of 4" normally refers to the principal square root of 4, which is the positive one, i.e. 2. The other square root of 4 is, of course, −2. Double sharp (talk) 07:21, 24 June 2014 (UTC)
