Welcome!

Hello, Dfaustin23, and welcome to Wikipedia! My name is Adam and I work with the Wiki Education Foundation; I help support students who are editing as part of a class assignment.

I hope you enjoy editing here. If you haven't already done so, please check out the student training library, which introduces you to editing and Wikipedia's core principles. You may also want to check out the Teahouse, a community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to helping new users. Below are some resources to help you get started editing.

Edwin James

edit

Hi Dfaustin23. I saw your draft page on Edwin James and wanted to point a few things out to you:

  • Wikipedia has an article on James which while short and haphazardly referenced has a lot of good information and can be a useful place to look as you expand your draft.
  • Take a look at our handout on Editing Biographies. It will cover the structure, tone and sourcing expectations for a biography on Wikipedia. This may be more useful to you than your classmates because you're expanding an article that's relatively small and unstructured.
  • Proxy links (like this one from your draft) should be converted to a stable URL that anyone can access. It doesn't matter if the material is behind a paywall, a paywalled link is preferable to a library proxy link that will only work for someone reading the article from the UMD libraries.

I hope this helps. Let me know if you need a hand with anything. Adam (Wiki Ed) (talk) 19:58, 14 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the feedback, before now I had been using the sandbox as a place to keep notes. I found sources that the James article doesn't have cited and should supply new information for the page. I will check out the editing wikipedia arcitles page to find information on how to combine my findings with the original authors. I plan to properly cite the information tonight as well as add my new notes for two other texts. I was wondering that if once I cite my information and link the important players to their pages if you could review it to make sure that I have cited each text correctly.
