Possible addition edit
@DexDor: Thanks for creating this essay. How about:
- ClueBot NG has not been trained to check edits to the Portal namespace, so vandalism has to be checked manually and lasts longer.

Inconsistent formats and some other comments edit
I never thought of inconsistent formats as a problem -- I always thought of this as a feature. With consensus on changing the formatting of the Main Page so difficult to achieve, portals can serve as places where users can experiment a bit. I like that de:Portal:Straßen and de:Portal:Medizin look very different, but they both seem to be active and useful. Of course content of portals and what type of things are included also varies widely; some are purely navigational, some are mini-main pages, some are a WikiProject's showcase. The low number of viewers probably says that portals don't work for readers, no matter how they are structured, but that doesn't mean they can't work for editors or WikiProjects. —Kusma (t·c) 21:02, 23 March 2019 (UTC)
None free images edit
Not allowed in portals, but used all the time, now being transluded in automatically. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Non-free_content_criteria Point 9. Legacypac (talk) 13:42, 2 April 2019 (UTC)
Move this content edit
@DexDor and Legacypac:, what do you think of moving this content to another space (eg Wikipedia:WikiProject Portals/Problems with Portals or Wikipedia:Portal/Guidelines/Problems with Portals)? To receive contributions from other users, a shortcut and to be quoted in MfDs.Guilherme Burn (talk) 19:49, 14 April 2019 (UTC)
- No problem with me. User:BrownHairedGirl could expand it with some of her thoughts. Legacypac (talk) 19:53, 14 April 2019 (UTC)
- I'd prefer to either keep this essay in my userspace (for the moment) or to move it to Wikipedia:<something> (e.g. Wikipedia:Problems with portals) (e.g. like the categorization projectspace essays). I've created shortcut WP:PWP. However, editors who broadly agree with my views (e.g. the 3 editors mentioned here) are welcome to improve the essay whilst it's in my userspace; in the unlikely event I don't agree I'll revert. If moved out of userspace the "I"s will need to change. I'll try to make some improvements to the essay over the next few days (including dealing with some points raised above). BHG's recent analysis at VPP summarises things well. DexDor (talk) 21:06, 14 April 2019 (UTC)
